Virat Kohli’s precise direct-hit ends Shahrukh Khan’s brilliant innings in RCB vs GT clash – India TV

Image Source : JIOCINEMA/X RCB vs GT IPL 2024 match in Bengaluru Royal Challengers Bengaluru displayed brilliant bowling and remarkable fielding efforts to bowl out Gujarat Titans on 147 in the ongoing IPL 2024 match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday. Star batter Virat Kohli stole the limelight again as he produced a stellar direct hit to run out settled Shahrukh Khan. After losing the toss, Gujarat were forced to bat first and lost the top order in powerplay overs with just 19 runs on the scoreboard. But David Miller and Shahrukh Khan added 61 runs for the fourth wicket to put Gujarat on a track for a challenging total. Karn Sharma gave Bengaluru a breakthrough with Miller’s big wicket in the 12th over and then Virat Kohli showed his well-known fielding skills with a sensational throw to run out Shahrukh Khan in the 13th over. On-strike Rahul Tewatai defended Vijaykumar Vyshak’s delivery at a point where Kohli picked the ball and quickly directed it towards a non-striker end to dismiss Shahrukh Khan. Shahrukh top-scored with 37 runs off 24 balls as Gujarat Titans managed to post a 147/10 total in 19.3 overs. Kohli also took an easy catch to dismiss in-form Sai Sudharshan on Cameron Green’s delivery. Vijaykumar Vyshak turned out a hero for the hosts with two wickets and two brilliant catches to deny Gujarat a 150-plus total. Royal Challengers Bengaluru Playing XI: Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis (c), Will Jacks, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Karn Sharma, Swapnil Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Yash Dayal, Vijaykumar Vyshak. IPL 2024: Why MI's Loss Is Good News For RCBs Playoff Chances?

IPL 2024: Why MI’s Loss Is Good News For RCBs Playoff Chances?

With more than 50 games done in IPL 2024, no team has qualified for the playoffs and – no team is out of the race yet. Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) playoff chances are hanging by a thread after Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Rajasthan Royals by one run on Thursday. Furthermore, MI have continued their dismal IPL 2024 campaign after suffering a 24-run defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday at home. After their eighth loss in 11 games, the five-time champions MI are now on the brink of elimination. The Hardik Pandya-led outfit will need plenty of results to go their way to finish in the top four. Meanwhile, MI’s heartbreaking loss has brought some confidence into the RCB camp considering Mumbai can go up to a maximum of 12 points if they win their remaining three matches, which is daunting. Remaining fixtures of MI May 6: vs SRH, Wankhede Stadium May 11: vs KKR, Eden Gardens May 17: vs LSG, Wankhede Stadium Mathematically, MI are not eliminated from the competition yet and also have an outside chance of qualifying. First things first, Mumbai need to win all their remaining fixtures to stay in the hunt. RR and KKR are already placed at the top with 16 and 14 points respectively and are far from MI’s reach. Technically, MI would need RR and KKR to win all their remaining fixtures to make way for them. The winner of the SRH v LSG clash on May 8 will move to 14 points from the current 12. The winner of the SRH vs LSG game will need to win their remaining three matches and get at least 16 points. The winner of this fixture will also need to win their remaining three fixtures. Whereas, the loser of the game should also lose their next three fixtures and end their season with 12 points. Lastly, none of the teams residing outside of the top four should go past 12 points. In such a scenario, Mumbai might get tied with the other five teams at 12 points each and would need a significant NRR boost to climb up the ladder and seal the fourth spot on the standings. RCB, on the other hand, are currently reeling at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table with only three wins out of 10 games. However, they have looked in a better position than MI after winning two consecutive away games against SRH and GT. Despite early setbacks this season, RCB still have a mathematical chance to make the playoffs. Their recovery work begins at home against a struggling GT on Saturday and RCB would need to make the most out of the game. Remaining fixtures of RCB May 4: vs GT, Bengaluru May 9: vs PBKS, Dharamsala May 12: vs DC, Bengaluru May 18: vs CSK, Bengaluru Like any other side, who are placed in the bottom half of the points table, RCB also need to win their remaining four fixtures and hopefully, they will make use of the home advantage with three more fixtures to be played at Chinnaswamy. However, for RCB to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs, the simple math is to back the top three (RR, KKR, and either one of SRH/ LSG) to win as many games as possible while the next six sides above them lose just as many so that RCB can finish above them in the standings. Here are a few of the possible ways in which this can be achieved. RCB would want the winner of the SRH v LSG clash on May 8 to win all their remaining matches to cement their spot at three at least. They also want the loser of the SRH vs LSG game to lose their next three fixtures and get stuck on 12 points. MI should win no more than two out of their remaining four league games. GT and PBKS should win no more than two of their remaining four league games. CSK and DC should win no more than one of their remaining league games. RR and KKR should win at least three of their remaining four league games. To sum up, RCB must hope that all the above permutations go their way with the six teams above them suffering heavy defeats while the Royal Challengers themselves must earn handsome wins to grab the fourth spot for IPL 2024 playoffs qualification. "Badi Jaldi Aaya Practice Mei": Virat Kohli-Shubman Gill's Reunion After T20 World Cup Squad Announcement

“Badi Jaldi Aaya Practice Mei”: Virat Kohli-Shubman Gill’s Reunion After T20 World Cup Squad Announcement

Shubman Gill with Virat Kohli© X (Twitter) Gujarat Titans are all set to avenge their big defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru as both the teams will be facing each other again on Saturday. In their previous clash, GT posted a total of 200/3 in 20 overs, which was easily chased down by RCB in just 16 overs. Will Jacks was the real hero of that clash with his magnificent 41-ball-unbeaten century. The upcoming clash will be an important one for both the teams as these two points can play a crucial role in the qualification for the Playoffs. Ahead of the match in Bengaluru, GT skipper Shubman Gill reached the practice ground, where he met RCB star Virat Kohli and the duo gave an adorable moment to the fans. The meeting happened a couple of days after BCCI announced the T20 World CUp squas. Shubman Gill has been named in the reserves while Kohli is part of the squad. As soon as Gill met Kohli, the latter pulled his leg by saying, “Badi jaldi aaya practice mei (You came so early for practice)!”. His tally includes one century and four half-centuries. On the other hand, Gill is having a mediocre outing with the bat as he has managed to fetch 320 runs in 10 matches. His strike rate is 140.97 while his batting average is 35.56. Apart from IPL, Kohli has been named in India’s 15-member squad for T20 World Cup 2024. However, Gill has failed to earn a spot as the selectors have named skipper Rohit Sharma and young Yashasvi Jaiswal as the two openers for the marquee event. Gill has been named in the reserves, along with Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan. All-rounder Hardik Pandya returned to international cricket and will be serving as Rohit’s deputy at the World Cup. Apart from him, Chennai Super Kings batter Shivam Dube has also been named in the squad. Topics mentioned in this article

"If This Was Virat Kohli....": Irfan Pathan, Mohammad Kaif Slam Critics' Double-Standard With SRH Star's Example

“If This Was Virat Kohli….”: Irfan Pathan, Mohammad Kaif Slam Critics’ Double-Standard With SRH Star’s Example

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli has been piling up runs in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), despite criticism over his strike-rate. The former RCB captain is second in scoring charts with 500 runs in 10 matches, only nine runs behind current Orange Cap holder Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, his knocks have been often overshadowed by his debatable strike-rate. Amid criticism, Kohli has found the backing of former India cricketers Irfan Pathan and Mohammad Kaif. Irfan and Kaif slammed his critics for showing double standards with the interesting example of SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Travis Head. For the unversed, Head has been in sensational form in the IPL himself. The Australian opener has scored 396 runs in nine matches, striking at over 194. However, during SRH’s game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday, even Head struggled to time the ball. At one point, he was batting on 25 off as many deliveries, and ended up scoring 58 off 44 balls with a strike-rate of 131.8. Speaking on Head’s knock, Irfan and Kaif suggested that if Kohli had played a similar knock, everyone would have been talking about his strike rate for days. “According to his ability, you have never seen him play like this. No matter what you say that there was good bowling and everything, but every cricketer should be treated equally,” Irfan said on Star Sports. Kaif echoed his sentiments, and added: “You are right, if this was Virat Kohli, I can guarantee that people would have said only 58 runs in 44 balls? What is this? They would say it is low and there would have debates about his strike rate. But I believe that this was a good innings by Head.” Irfan further explained how Kohli has been carrying RCB with his batting, especially with the franchise languishing at the bottom of the points table. “But if there was Virat Kohli instead, people would have stuck to the strike rate but here we are talking about taking responsibility for team’s victory, so please treat everyone equally,” Irfan added. Kohli had also addressed the debate surrounding his strike-rate. He had taken a swipe at his critics after the match against Gujarat Titans and said: “All the people who talk about [my] strike rate and me not playing spin well are the ones who love to talk about these things. But for me, it is just about winning the game. There’s a reason why you do it for 15 years. Because you do this day in and day out and won games for your team,” said Kohli after the Gujarat Titans game. “I am not sure if you haven’t been in that situation, to sit and speak about the game from the box. I don’t think it is the same thing. I am just doing my job. People can talk about their own ideas and assumption on the game (sic),” he added. Kohli will have the chance to reclaim the Orange Cap when RCB take on GT on Saturday. Topics mentioned in this article

'Badi jaldi aaya...': Virat Kohli pulls Shubman Gill's leg as GT captain visits RCB dressing room before IPL 2024 clash

‘Badi jaldi aaya…’: Virat Kohli pulls Shubman Gill’s leg as GT captain visits RCB dressing room before IPL 2024 clash

In patchy form currently, Shubman Gill missed out on a spot in the 15-member Team India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The Gujarat Titans captain was named in the reserves list, losing his spot in the 15-member squad to Rajasthan Royals’ Yashasvi Jaiswal. Virat Kohli makes fun of Shubman Gill. Gearing up for GT’s upcoming fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gill surprised India teammate Virat Kohli, as he appeared early for practice. In a viral video, shared by GT on X, Gill can be seen greeting Kohli and the RCB star jokes, “Badi jaldi aaya practice mei (You came so early for practice)!’ Unlock exclusive access to the latest news on India’s general elections, only on the HT App. Download Now! Download Now! Their camaraderie and friendship was perfectly visible in the video as Kohli donned the senior role and joked with Gill, who is his junior. Here is the video: In IPL 2024, Gill has managed 320 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 140.96. He is 15th in the Orange Cap race and is not expected to retain it this season. Last year, he won the Orange Cap with 890 runs in 17 matches as GT finished as runners-up. It was a season to remember for Gill as he also smacked three tons and four fifties. But this season, he has only registered two half-centuries and was dismissed for 16 off 19 balls in his side’s previous fixture, which was also against RCB. Kohli’s funny approach could also be an indication as to why Gill was ignored by the selectors for the 15-member roster. Since suffering a bout of dengue in the early stages of the ODI World Cup last year, the opener hasn’t been the same and his captaincy with GT also needs maturity. He was handed the role after Hardik Pandya rejoined Mumbai Indians in a shock transfer prior to the auction last year. Pandya was released by MI in 2022 and joined GT, and he was made captain. He led them to the title in their debut season, followed by a runners-up finish. So, pressure was plenty on Gill, when he took up the responsibility. But he will be disappointed with himself, as GT are currently eighth in the IPL 2024 points table with eight points in 10 games. With time running out, they will be looking to bounce back to winning ways and are currently in a two-match losing streak.

"Virat Kohli Should Open, Rohit Sharma Goes Back": Ex-India Star On T20 World Cup Combination

“Virat Kohli Should Open, Rohit Sharma Goes Back”: Ex-India Star On T20 World Cup Combination

Ajay Jadeja believes Rohit Sharma should bat at no. 3 and promote Virat Kohli.© BCCI Former all-rounder Ajay Jadeja believes that India skipper Rohit Sharma should push himself to the number three spot and promote Virat Kohli to the opening position during next month’s T20 World Cup in the Americas. India announced their 15 for the marquee tournament earlier this week and will open their campaign against Ireland on June 5. “For me, Virat Kohli opens. Who goes back? Rohit Sharma bats at three. He gets a little cushion and gets to understand the game, he has so much going on, in his mind as a captain,” Jadeja told Jio Cinema. “If you have Virat in your side, you know consistency is the one thing you will get, so, might as well use him. He’s best at the top and the powerplay allows him to settle in,” he added. Jadeja backed the selection of a currently off-colour Hardik Pandya in the squad, describing him as special. “The spotlight is on him for obvious reasons. He’s a special player, a rare commodity you find in our country where somebody bowls seam-up and can make it to the side with his batting,” he said referring to the furore caused by his elevation to Mumbai Indians captaincy replacing Rohit. Pandya, who is enduring a poor run in the IPL, will be Rohit’s deputy during the T20 World Cup. “The selection has not been on form, there’s no doubt about it. It depends on how you want to play. It’s one of the things I look at this team and think they don’t have many options. “You have established players in the side, everybody is so solid with the numbers that they play at, and what stage they play. It will all depend on what Rohit thinks,” Jadeja said. (This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is auto-generated from a syndicated feed.) Topics mentioned in this article

IPL-17: RCB vs GT | Royal Challengers will strive to keep their momentum going as they host Gill’s Gujarat Titans

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will be meeting Gujarat Titans in Bengaluru to notch a mandatory win to keep the dream of reaching playoffs flickering. | Photo Credit: ANI Having notched up wins in its last two fixtures, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has kept its IPL playoff hopes alive. RCB will strive to keep the momentum going with a good result against Gujarat Titans in Bengaluru on May 4. RCB holds sway, having gotten past the same opponent last week at Ahmedabad. The victory was set up by a brilliant unbeaten 41-ball 100 from Will Jacks, with Virat Kohli (70 n.o.) playing the supporting role. Unlike many other sides, RCB has not been able to take full advantage of home conditions. Faf du Plessis and his men have managed only one positive result in four games held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here. Jacks believes that RCB is now well poised to do well at home, given that their batters have found form. “We do not want to focus on our losing record here. Because of the playing conditions, it is hard to have home advantage. The pitches are good and the boundaries are small. If a batter gets going, it is hard to stop. Now that our batters are in form, we can hopefully finish our home games strongly,” Jacks said. The city welcomed a long-awaited spell of rain on Friday, even if it mildly disrupted the training schedule of the teams. The skies cleared up later, allowing players to get a hit under lights. Much like RCB, GT is teetering on the edge of elimination. With eight points from 10 matches, the visitor needs to get on a winning streak to push for a playoff spot. GT must address its bowling woes, having conceded 200-plus scores in its last two outings. Teams (from): Royal Challengers Bengaluru: Faf du Plessis (c), Glenn Maxwell, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Anuj Rawat, Dinesh Karthik, Suyash Prabhudessai, Will Jacks, Mahipal Lomror, Karn Sharma, Manoj Bhandage, Mayank Dagar, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Reece Topley, Himanshu Sharma, Rajan Kumar, Cameron Green, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Tom Curran, Lockie Ferguson, Swapnil Singh, Saurav Chauhan. Rohit Sharma laughs, Agarkar comes up with 'experience' retort on Virat Kohli's strike rate question

Rohit Sharma laughs, Agarkar comes up with ‘experience’ retort on Virat Kohli’s strike rate question

Image Source : PTI/AP Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar, the Indian captain and chairman of selectors addressed the press conference regarding the T20 World Cup squad Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar were pretty straightforward with their responses in the press conference in Mumbai on Thursday, May 2 with respect to the T20 World Cup announced a couple of days ago. The duo was asked pretty much everything from the omissions of Rinku Singh, and Shubman Gill to the presence of four spinners and form of certain players. One of the questions was regarding Virat Kohli’s strike rate and the first reaction from skipper Rohit suggested that they were expecting that. Rohit laughed instantly. It was a rather sheepish smile. Before he gestured towards Agarkar to respond to the question and the former India pacer mentioned that Kohli has been in terrific form in the season so far and came up with the experience retort while shedding light on the gap between IPL and international cricket. “I don’t think we have been discussing it. So, no look he’s been in great form fortunately in the IPL. So no concerns there at all. With regards to how it is going in the IPL, you are still going to a World Cup, it is still international, there’s still that gap there. So, you’ve got to prepare knowing that there is that gap. That’s where experience does matter a lot. If the tournament turned out to be where IPL is where 220 plays 220, I think we’ve still got enough in the team, the balance or the power that you can match that.  “There’s no point in overthinking. You look and take positives that are happening in the IPL, form of some of the guys, some of the newer guys coming through. At the end of the day, when you turn up for a World Cup game, the pressures are a little different,” Agarkar added. Watch the video here (1:27:27 – 1:28:51): Kohli has had a couple of knocks where his strike rate came under the scanner, however, he has been in outstanding touch with the bat playing for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Kohli has amassed 500 runs at an average of 71.4 and a strike rate of 147.49. India have option of playing Kohli at the top or at No 3 give the rest of the combination they want to go with.
