Not Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma; Suresh Raina picks player with 21 T20I caps to be India’s X factor in T20 WC – India TV

Image Source : PTI Indian cricket team. India’s charge in the T20 World Cup is set to begin on June 5 with their opening clash against Ireland in New York. The team that lifted the trophy in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007, is in the hunt for another title in the West Indies and the USA. The Indian team will bank on bigwigs like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah to come well but former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has picked a player with 21 T20I caps to be the team’s X-factor for the tournament.  While speaking at the launch of the World Championship of Leagues, the left-handed star said that Shivam Dube can be the X-factor India need in the World Cup. “He has to play in the World Cup. See, the ability to stand still while hitting those big sixes is very rare. Shivam Dube can be the x-factor for India to win the World Cup. So Rohit will have to take the call whether he wants to play Virat (Kohli) up the top, but then Yashasvi is also batting with a different kind of flair. If the situation arises, Shivam can also bowl for the side,” Rainsa said at the launch ceremony.  Dube has the special ability to hit sixes while not moving his feet much and staying still. He was in sublime form during the most of IPL 2024, hitting 396 runs at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 162.30.  Along with spin, the left-handed batter showed his improved game against pacers too in IPL 2024. Out of his 396 runs, 309 have come against pacers in 12 innings at a strike rate of 164.36. Notably, Dube had two consecutive golden ducks in the latter half of the tournament. In the last three IPL outings, he managed 21, 18 and 7 to his name. The 30-year-old bowled in only one game and picked up a wicket in that match against Punjab Kings. Dube will need to bounce back from the under par latter part of the tournament for the 20-over World Cup.

Hardik Pandya's injury scare touched upon as 2007 T20 World Cup winner sets all-rounder's bowling workload

Hardik Pandya’s injury scare touched upon as 2007 T20 World Cup winner sets all-rounder’s bowling workload

Hardik Pandya is among the Indian players in New York gearing up for the start of the 2024 T20 World Cup and there are possibly more eyes on him and how he performs than any of his teammates. Pandya, who captained India in T20Is for much of 2023, had a horrific 2024 season in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which was also his first season as captain of the Mumbai Indians. Hardik Pandya bowled sparingly for much of the first half of the IPL(AFP) A host of off-field issues resulting from his replacing Rohit Sharma as captain of MI in his first season back with the franchises led to the fans at the Wankhede Stadium, and almost every other stadium in the country, turning on him. This seemed to affect his own and the team’s performance as well, with the five-time champions finishing bottom of the table with just four wins in 14 matches. Pandya picked 11 wickets in 14 matches but also had an economy of 10.75. He scored just 216 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 143.05 and average of 18.00. The all-rounder was picked in the Indian team for the 2024 T20 World Cup despite this form and former fast bowler RP Singh has said that Pandya will have to bowl his full quota of four overs in the tournament. “Hardik bowled in the IPL and bowled four overs so there’s no injury scare. Hardik’s bowling will be important and he will have to bowl all his quota of 4-overs,” he said. There was renewed speculation over Pandya’s fitness in the first half of the IPL when he bowled sparingly. However, he picked up his bowling workload as the tournament progressed. ‘If Dube bowls it’ll be added advantage for India’ Singh also said that Shivam Dube bowling for India would be an added advantage for the 2007 champions. “If Shivam Dube bowls too, then it will be an added advantage for India ahead. Shivam may not play some matches initially but whenever he plays, he will perform well and score runs for India,” he said. Pandya had to deal with boos and jeers in almost every stadium of the country, particularly in Mumbai where fans seemed to have never accepted him as a replacement for Rohit Sharma. Pandya had been traded by the Gujarat Titans, whom he had led to the title in their debut IPL season and the runners-up position in the next, to the Mumbai Indians in the most high-profile before the auction last year. However, there was widespread anger among MI fans over him replacing Rohit as captain Catch every big hit, every wicket with Crick-it, a one stop destination for Live Scores, Match Stats, Quizzes, Polls & much more.Explore now !. T20 World Cup: RP Singh explains how IPL Impact Player rule hampered Rinku's prospects

T20 World Cup: RP Singh explains how IPL Impact Player rule hampered Rinku’s prospects

Former India pacer Rudra Pratap Singh has explained how the IPL Impact Player rule has hampered Rinku Singh’s prospects of making it to the India squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Rinku Singh’s omission from India’s 15-man T20 World Cup 2024 squad raised a lot of eyebrows. Rinku Singh’s amazing performance in IPL 2023 catapulted him into the spotlight and quickly made him a household name because of his talent. The KKR batter received his first India call following a great IPL season, and his strike rate stayed quite high. The Ajit Agarkar-led India selection panel chose to go with more recent performances, and selected Shivam Dube in the 15-member squad, while Rinku Singh will be on the reserve list. “Rinku Singh should have definitely been there. I think he was unfortunate to miss out. If the Impact Player rule was not there, I think Rinku would have made it,” RP Singh said during a promotional event where the Indian team’s jersey was unveiled for the inaugural World Championship of Legends. The 25-year-old Uttar Pradesh batter was in sensational touch for India in T20Is before IPL 2024. His ability to bat at different gears and execute the finisher’s role to perfection reminded fans of vintage MS Dhoni. Rinku averages 89 in his nascent T20I career, having scored 356 runs at a staggering strike rate of 176. Never has Rinku fluffed an opportunity in the Indian blue. Yet, the young man was left out of the squad and named in the reserves. Amid the great buzz surrounding his removal, Rinku Singh broke his silence and confessed that he was at first disappointed. The KKR batter agreed that his absence was more down to team dynamics than performance, and he emphasised that making the reserve list is also a significant accomplishment given where he comes from. T20 World Cup 2024: Australia captain Mitchell Marsh not ready to bowl yet, says coach

T20 World Cup 2024: Australia captain Mitchell Marsh not ready to bowl yet, says coach

Australia coach Andrew McDonald has said that skipper Mitchell Marsh isn’t ready to bowl yet in the T20 World Cup and will be playing as a pure batter in their opener against Oman. Marsh is returning to the side after an injury layoff as he picked up the issue during the IPL 2024 campaign. The all-rounder would have to return from India back home for rehabilitation and cut short his IPL 2024 campaign. Marsh would reveal that he was getting good when the team was announced and was part of the side that faced West Indies and was dismissed for four runs. Speaking after the game, McDonald said the warm-up games was all about ticking off where Marsh’s fitness was. The Australia coach said that the skipper has built up confidence after fielding for a few more overs and was able to move freely. “For Mitch, (the warm-up games) was about ticking off where his body was at,” McDonald told cricket.com.au. “He fielded more overs tonight, he was able to move more freely, so he’s building a little bit of confidence there. It looks as though he’s all set for the first game. “The second part is just when the bowling comes back online â€æ it won’t be the first game.” What McDonald said about West Indies game? The match against West Indies saw the hosts hit the Aussies for 257 runs on the back of Nicholas Pooran’s 75. McDonald said that conceding close to 260 runs in a T20 game isn’t ideal but they were working on a few plans. “To concede 260-odd runs in a T20 game is not ideal,” said McDonald. “But we were working through some plans, we were working through what we needed to get out of the game, so there was a little bit of â€æ working on certain deliveries and certain things that can unfold. “I’m sure the West Indies were the same as well, I’m sure they were working on things that weren’t associated with the opponent they were playing.” Australia will open their campaign against Oman on June 5 and then face England three days later. Shakib Al Hasan keen on extending his career – India TV

Shakib Al Hasan keen on extending his career – India TV

Image Source : GETTY Shakib Al Hasan Bangladesh veteran and former captain Shakib Al Hasan had hinted at taking a call on his international career after Champions Trophy 2025 in September last year. But he doesn’t have plans to quite any time soon it seems as the all-rounder is hoping to play another T20 World Cup in 2026 that will take place in India and Sri Lanka. Shakib is one of the only two players (Rohit Sharma being the other), to feature in all nine T20 World Cups and many felt it could be his last mega event in the shortest format. However, the left-handed all-rounder is already entertaining plans to play next T20 World Cup scheduled in 2026. At the same time though, the man is focusing on contributing for Bangladesh in the upcoming tournament and hopes that the team does well in the mega event. “Firstly, when I started I didn’t expect that I will play for so long and secondly since the start of T20 Cricket World Cup till this T20 World Cup, I have participated in all them along with Rohit Sharma. It is a matter of pride for me and I’m happy that I could represent the country. “Me and Rohit Sharma are the only two players who played all the T20 World Cups and I hope that I can play another World Cup but before that would like to perform well in the tournament and Bangladesh can do better than previous T20 tournament,” Shakib said in a video uploaded on BCB’s Facebook page. With his family based there, USA can be called Shakib’s second home and believes Bangladesh can do well in the tournament with conditions favouring them. However, the team is coming off a a shocking series defeat by 2-1 in the three-match series against the USA. “It is alright that USA is my second home but it is difficult to say but I think we will get that because earlier when we played in West Indies and America we did well and we played in Florida we did well,” Shakib further added.

Australia dealt a major blow ahead of T20 World Cup 2024 – India TV

Australia dealt a major blow ahead of T20 World Cup 2024 – India TV

Image Source : GETTY Australia team Australia have been dealt a massive blow ahead of T20 World Cup that is set to commence from June 2 (as per Indian Standard Time). Their skipper Mitchell Marsh won’t be bowling at least in their opening game against Oman scheduled on June 6 at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown in Barbados. Marsh is yet to recover completely from his hamstring injury sustained in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year while playing for Delhi Capitals. In fact, Marsh also played as a pure batter in the two warm-up matches against Namibia and West Indies scoring 18 and 4 runs respectively. Moreover, he didn’t take the field for the full bowling innings as well in the warm-ups as Matthew Wade took over the captaincy responsibility from him. Meanwhile, Australia head coach Andrew McDonald confirmed the development related to the captain’s injury recovery while confirming that Marsh will definitely play the first game but is not up to the mark when it comes to bowling. “For Mitch, (the warm-up games) was about ticking off where his body was at. He fielded more overs tonight (in the warm-up against West Indies), he was able to move more freely, so he’s building a little bit of confidence there. It looks as though he’s all set for the first game. The second part is just when the bowling comes back online. It won’t be the first game,” McDonald told cricket.com.au. Australia conceded 257 runs against the West Indies in their second warm-up game but with only nine players available, they did feel the absence of their key players who are yet to join the team having played the Indian Premier League for two months. But McDonald is not worried much about the group spending time together ahead of the mega event. “It was by design, in terms of when we were getting people back after the IPL; we were well aware we weren’t going to get the squad together until the first of next month. We’ve got some things in place where we’ll bring the group together, we’ll work through our plans leading into Oman and there’s a bit of space between that game and (playing) England,” the Aussie head coach added.

Aiden Markram feels South Africa is just one World Cup away from multiple trophy wins

Aiden Markram feels South Africa is just one World Cup away from multiple trophy wins

South Africa T20I captain Aiden Markram feels that his team is just away from winning one World Cup trophy to begin a streak of wins in major tournaments. Notably, in their 34-year-long history in limited overs format, South Africa are yet to win a World Cup trophy. The Proteas have time and again come close to clinching their elusive first-ever title. However, they have agonisingly fallen short of lifting a World title despite their rich cricketing history. With the T20 World Cup 2024 beginning in a day, Proteas captain Aiden Markram expressed confidence in his men to finally end their World Cup drought, mentioning the quality of cricket, they’ve been playing for the last few years. The 29-year-old also said that if they’re able to win, they can potentially build up on their success and add more trophies to their cabinet. “I definitely think we have what it takes and it’s a World Cup it’s a really high level of cricket. I think this group has now been together for quite a few years. We’ve shown through many performances in the past few years that we’re able to beat the best in the world. So, I’m quietly confident that this team has what it takes to win the World Cup. I think once we’re able to get that first elusive one I think potentially quite a few could follow after that,” said Markram in a press conference. South Africa placed in Group D Notably, South Africa have qualified for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup just twice out of the eight editions in 2009 and 2014 respectively. They got knocked out of the previous edition of the tournament in 2022 after facing an embarrassing loss against the Netherlands. Hence, the Rainbow Nation will be desperate to put up an improved performance in the upcoming edition of the event. South Africa are placed in Group D in the tournament alongside Nepal, Netherlands, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka against whom they start their campaign on June 3 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. Sandeep Lamichhane: Sandeep Lamichane set to miss T20 World Cup 2024 after denied US visa for second time despite Cricket Association of Nepal’s efforts | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Nepalese leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane will be absent from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled for June in the West Indies and the United States. This setback comes after the US Embassy rejected Lamichhane’s visa application for the second time, effectively barring him from participating in the tournament.Lamichhane’s initial application was denied the previous week, prompting swift action from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and the Nepali government. ALSO SEE: T20 World Cup Schedule Despite their combined efforts, including diplomatic interventions and communication with the International Cricket Council (ICC), the US Embassy remained resolute in its decision. The CAN, in an official statement, expressed disappointment at the outcome, highlighting the extensive measures taken to secure Lamichhane’s travel permission. It reads, “Despite taking necessary initiatives, along with the diplomatic note, from the government of Nepal, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Sports Council, CAN, and International Cricket Council (ICC), for cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane’s visit to participate in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies, the US Embassy has expressed its inability to give travel permission (visa) to national player Lamichhane to play in the World Cup.” The US Embassy, while acknowledging the significance of the tournament and the efforts made to facilitate travel for participating athletes, maintained its stance on confidentiality regarding individual visa cases. This development is a significant blow to Nepal’s T20 World Cup aspirations. Lamichhane, a key player in the Nepali squad, brings a wealth of experience and skill to the team. His absence will undoubtedly be felt as Nepal faces stiff competition in Group D, which includes formidable opponents such as Bangladesh, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands.Nepal’s campaign is set to begin on June 4th against the Netherlands in Texas. The team will need to regroup and strategize effectively to overcome the challenge of competing without their star spinner.(Inputs from ANI)
