Evin Lewis, Akeal Hosein annihilate Ireland in 3rd T20I, set up 1-0 series win for West Indies

West Indies registered a dominating 62-run win over Ireland in the third and final T20I to win the series 1-0 on Sunday, June 15 at Bready Cricket Club, Bready, Northern Ireland. After being put in to bat first, West Indies posted their second-highest score in T20I history of 256/5, riding on a splendid innings from Evin Lewis of 91 (44). In reply, Ireland were restricted to 194/7 in their allotted 20 overs Akeil Hosein ran through their batting order, scalping three wickets, giving away 27 runs in four overs. Earlier, West Indies got off to a cautious start to their innings as Lewis scored just two runs off his first seven balls. He collected his first boundary in the third over against Barry McCarthy, who was also tonked for a four and six by captain Shai Hope as well in the same over. The over gave the much-needed impetus to West Indies’ innings as both Lewis and Hope began dealing in boundaries. The duo added 70 runs in the powerplay, despite a slow start. Lewis was even given a reprieve on 45 and the southpaw made sure that the Irish rued their mistake by whacking a maximum and three successive fours off his next four deliveries as he brought up his half century off 29 deliveries. At the other end, Hopes also brought up his half century off 23 balls as he put on a massive 122-run stand off 64 deliveries with Lewis. Their partnership was finally broken as Barry McCarthy got rid of Hope for 51 (27) while Lewis clobbered seven fours and eight sixes en route to his 44-ball 91. Following their dismissals, Keacy Carty played a belligerent innings of 49* (22) and got involved in crucial stands with Shimron Hetmyer (15 off 7), Jason Holder (18 off 13) and Romario Shepherd (19* off 6) to propel West Indies to a mammoth score of 256/5. Amid the run fest, Matthew Humphreys bowled a remarkable spell of 0/16 in four overs while Liam McCarthy registered the second most expensive figures in T20Is, leaking 81 runs from his four overs. In reply, Ireland lost their captain Paul Stirling (13 off 6) early in the innings, but his opening partner Ross Adair (48 off 36) and Harry Tector (38 off 25) calmed the nerves in the dressing room with their massive stand of 101 (58). Despite their massive stand, Ireland couldn’t keep up with the required run rate, which triggered a batting collapse in the middle order. Akeal Hosein (3/27) and Jason Holder (2/49) emerged as the top wicket-takers for West Indies, guiding them to a 62-run win. As a result, West Indies sealed the three-match series by 1-0 after the first two matches were washed out due to rain. Published By: Rishabh Beniwal Published On: Jun 16, 2025

No Nicholas Pooran, no problem: West Indies slam 256 runs in T20I vs Ireland

Star West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran might have called time on his international career, but that had no bearing on the team’s T20I match against Ireland on June 15. On the back of Evin Lewis and Shai Hope’s incredible opening partnership, the Windies hit their second-highest T20I total at the Bready Cricket Ground on Sunday. The Windies scored a total of 256 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, just two runs short of their highest total in T20Is – 258/5, which came against South Africa in 2023. Lewis and Hope added 122 runs in just 10.3 overs before Hope was dismissed by Barry McCarthy against the run of play. The Windies lost a bit of momentum after that but ended up finishing strong, hitting 60 runs in the last three overs. Keacy Carty, who had started slow, lit up at the end and had tremendous help from Romario Shepherd, who finished with 19* off just 6 balls. Ireland bowlers were taken to the cleaners. Except for Matthew Humphreys, who finished with an incredible 2/16, the figures of the rest did not make for good reading. Liam McCarthy, on debut, got hammered for 0/81 in his four overs — the second-worst figures in the history of T20Is. Evin Lewis was the star of the show, hitting 91 off just 44 balls. He was dismissed on the second ball of the 13th over, falling in the nervous nineties. Despite falling 9 short of a deserved century, Lewis was able to set up the team for their huge total. This was the third and final T20I of the series. The previous two matches were called off without a ball being bowled due to poor weather. Nicholas Pooran Retires West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran shocked the cricket world on Tuesday, June 10, by announcing his retirement from international cricket at the age of 29. Pooran took to social media to share the news with his fans, describing it as a “very difficult” decision. He bows out of international cricket having scored over 4,000 runs across 61 T20 Internationals and 106 One Day Internationals. Pooran’s unexpected announcement came just days after he requested to be rested from the white-ball series in England, following his commitments with the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL).
