India captain Rohit Sharma has revealed that his father Gurunath Sharma was disappointed after his retirement from Test cricket. Rohit recently bid adieu to the longest format ahead of the all-important tour of England. The batting stalwart played 67 matches in whites and scored 4301 runs at an average of 40.57. Recently, speaking at the book launch of Cheteshwar Pujara’s wife Pooja, Rohit revealed that his father is a big fan of Test cricket and used to have lengthy discussions with him about his innings played in the longest format. Hence, he was left disappointed when Rohit retired from Tests. “My father has seen me playing a lot of cricket with red ball, obviously. So he appreciates red ball cricket a lot. And then, obviously, he was a little disappointed when I announced my retirement. But was happy as well at the same time. But, yeah, that’s my father. And he has obviously played a huge role in wherever I am today. Without their help, it never would have been possible,” Rohit was quoted as saying by ANI. Furthermore, Rohit revealed that his father wasn’t excited even after his record-breaking innings of 264 in ODIs. “Since day one, has been a fan of Test cricket. He doesn’t like this new-age cricket. I still remember that day I scored 264 in the ODI. He was like, okay, well played. Well done. There was no excitement from him. It’s important to go out there and all that,” Rohit added.
