‘God has got a plan’: Virat Kohli sums up RCB’s rise from the ashes in IPL 2024 | Cricket News

It won’t be wrong to call Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) the phoenix of IPL 2024, for the way they have literally risen from the ashes to script one of the most remarkable comebacks the league has ever seen. But there’s still unfinished business, which is why RCB icon Virat Kohli says “we gotta focus on the next one.” RCB qualified for the playoffs, finishing fourth on the points table after defeating five-time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their do-or-die match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru last Saturday. That was their sixth consecutive win on the trot, after losing seven of their first eight matches in this edition, which is what makes their run special and iconic. No other team has ever done that after a similar horror start to the season. IPL 2024: Results | Points Table Kohli, with 708 runs to be the league’s top run-getter, has been one of the inspirational figures behind this comeback; but the batting legend doesn’t want to delve much into it as the team has the all-important Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals coming up. The losing team in that match exits the tournament, while the winners go on to play Qualifier 2 for a place in the final. Qualifier 1 will be played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, with the winner moving into the final and the losing team taking on the winners of the Eliminator. “God’s got a plan,” Kohli could be heard saying on a video clip on social media, as he walks towards the dressing room.WATCH VIDEO “So you just need to be honest with what you are doing. I think we were pretty honest with our hard work and we got the rewards. I don’t want to say anything more than this. We gotta focus on the next one,” the former RCB captain added. Kohli has been with RCB since the inception of the league, which makes it his 17th season with the franchise. However, they are yet to win the title and will hope that this inspirational comeback continues for three more matches to end their wait.

Last-over hero: Rinku Singh lauds Yash Dayal with Insta post after RCB vs CSK thriller

KKR batter Rinku Singh lauded Yash Dayal’s last over heroics during RCB’s match against CSK at M Chinnaswamy, Bengaluru on May 18, Saturday. Dayal bowled a magnificent last over to defend 17 runs in the last over to help RCB qualify for the playoffs in the Indian Premier League 2024. CSK needed 35 to win from the last over of the match, but in case they scored anything above 18, they would have qualified for the playoffs. However, a brilliant final over from Dayal helped RCB win the match by 27 runs to become the 4th team to qualify for the playoffs. They became the first team in the history of the tournament to qualify for the playoffs after having a solitary win in their first 7 games. Rinku took to his Instagram to share Dayal’s winning-moment picture and captioned the post as, “God’s plan baby”. He was maligned by the experts and fans when he conceded 5 sixes against Rinku Singh during GT’s match against KKR in IPL 2023. When KKR needed 28 runs in the last over, Rinku slammed Dayal for 5 sixes on the trot and guided his team to an improbable win to become an overnight star. RCB vs CSK: Highlights | Scorecard DAYAL’S FULL-CIRCLE MOMENT Dayal, on the other hand, became that villain, who was criticised right, left and centre. But, RCB showed faith in him and bought him for Rs 5 crore in the IPL 2024 auction. Dayal scripted his redemption story in a must-win clash for RCB against CSK. His life came to a full circle, as cricket is known to give such moments where brave-hearted players get an opportunity to turn things around. It was a turn-around to remember for Dayal, who was hit for a 110-meter six from MS Dhoni on the very first delivery he bowled. DAYAL SCRIPTS HIS REDEMPTION As the equation came down to 11 needed off 5, Dayal kept his cool and forced a top-edge from MS Dhoni, who left the field fuming. From being at the receiving end of India’s emerging finisher, Rinku, to getting the better of arguably the world’s best finisher, Dhoni, this was Dayal’s redemption, his comeback. He gave away only 7 runs in the last over to help RCB do the unthinkable.
