Watch: In T20s you cannot say ‘mere ko settle hone ke liye time chahiye’, says Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson | Cricket News

Sanju Samson has remodeled his T20 game on the basis that he doesn’t wait now to go for a big shot, even if the opportunity presents itself on the first ball he is facing, and the Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) captain believes that’s the mindset every batsman needs to adopt for a team to succeed.IPL 2024: Results | Points Table Speaking on Star Sports segment ‘Captains Speak’ ahead of RR’s next IPL match against Delhi Capitals, Samson said: “Bees over ka game hai (it’s a 20-over game). Each and every over is five percent of the game. So you just can’t say ke bhai mere ko settle hone ke liye time chahiye (I need time to settle down), I will go for sixes after getting to 10 runs, I won’t hit this bowler, I will hit towards the end.” Incidentally, that approach has earned Samson India recall for the T20 World Cup.With 385 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 159.09 so far in IPL 2024, Samson sits at No. 10 on the list of top run-getters while 2008 champions RR are No. 2 on the points table with 8 wins in 10 matches. WATCH VIDEO “There is only one intent in this format – just have to go out and look for boundaries. You have to show that intent, you have to look for those sixes. You have to do that impact role as soon as possible,” Samson added.“There is no individual pattern of scoring runs in this (format). I think there is only one way — you go and dominate. If you don’t dominate, you expect yourself to get out and your teammates to go and dominate. But if everyone doesn’t dominate, we lose the game. So there is no second gear. It’s always going, going, going. That’s my belief about T20s.” Wicketkeeper-batsman Samson made his international debut in a T20I against Zimbabwe in July 2015 but played his first ODI only six years later in 2021. In nine years since wearing the India jersey for the first time, Samson has played only 16 ODIs and 25 T20Is.However, having re-invented his game lately, the 29-year-old batsman from Kerala would now hope to cement his place in the national side with a prolific show in the T20 World Cup.

‘Lagta hai yahi head coach, mentor sab hain’: How Gautam Gambhir scripted KKR’s win from dugout – Watch | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Gautam Gambhir‘s emotions were on full display as he celebrated Nicholas Pooran‘s dismissal with great enthusiasm in the Indian Premier League match between Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday. He was later observed providing strategic advice to KKR captain Iyer by gesturing and offering words of wisdom to the player carrying drinks during the wicket break. A video of this incident has gone viral on social media, leading fans to speculate about Gambhir’s role in the franchise. Watch: After watching the video, one fan even commented, “Kabhi kabhi lagta hai Yahi head coach mentor saab hain (sometimes it feels like he is everything – the head coach and the mentor).”Under Gambhir’s guidance, KKR have been excellent in IPL 2024, with openers Sunil Narine and Phil Salt providing strong starts at the top.Narine’s brilliant half-century and a combined effort by the bowlers led to KKR’s convincing 98-run victory over LSG in the IPL on Sunday.LSG’s decision to field first backfired as KKR became the first team to surpass the 200-run mark at the Ekana stadium.Narine (81 off 38 balls) showcased his mettle with the bat once again, smashing seven sixes and six fours to propel the visitors to a formidable total of 235/6.Faced with a daunting target, LSG batters had to attack from the outset but struggled to find the boundary consistently. They were eventually bowled out for 137 in 16.1 overs. The victory led the Kolkata-based side to the top of the table with 16 points, equal to Rajasthan Royals but having played one extra game.

How will surface at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi play?

Image Source : BCCI/IPL Delhi Capitals will take on the Rajasthan Royals in a must-win clash at home in the 2024 edition of the IPL Delhi Capitals’ final run to attempt qualification for the playoffs in the 2024 edition of the IPL kicks off on Tuesday, May 7 against the Rajasthan Royals and the 2020 finalists need to win each of their remaining three games. Delhi suffered a massive loss against the Kolkata Knight Riders in their last game, which was a blip in their late resurgence as they were coming off four wins in the five matches prior to that clash. Rajasthan Royals dropped a game and are yet to get a ‘Q’ against their name, which is enough motivation factor for the Men in Pink, who also lost their top spot on the table. Delhi will be sweating over the fitness of their two senior players David Warner and Ishant Sharma, who have been out of the action for more than a couple of weeks due to their respective injuries. The Royals, on the other hand, will be without Jos Buttler for the latter part of the tournament and would want to try Tom Kohler-Cadmore in a few games before the playoffs to give him a sense of the competition. Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi pitch report The lowest first-innings score in Delhi has been 223, which tells you the nature of the surface in the capital so far in the tournament. It’s been 10 days since the last match took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and the temperatures have soared a bit in the capital since then. Like the surfaces around the country, the heat is likely to have some effect on the pitches in Delhi too as expect them to be a little drier than before. Dry means turn, which in turn means grip in the surface and assistance for the bowlers. Despite the surface being a bit slow, it might not be 150-160 slow. The small boundaries at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and the fast outfield will still favour the batters but the wicket is used one, given the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad was played on it. All three matches have been won by the team batting first so far in Delhi and with it being a used wicket, there is an expectation of it playing a bit slower in the second innings and hence the captain winning the toss is likely to bat first.

IPL 2024 Points Table: Mumbai Indians Out Of Playoff Race? Win vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Takes Them To…

Mumbai Indians defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024 match© AFP Mumbai Indians kept their IPL 2024 playoff dreams alive with a crucial victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. The win took Mumbai Indians to the ninth spot with 8 points from 12 matches with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.212. Although the chances of MI reaching the playoffs remain slim, the win means that victories in the remaining two matches will give them a chance to end up in the Top 4. Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, remain fourth with 12 points from 11 matches. Coming to the match, Suryakumar Yadav scored a sensational century after brilliant bowling performances from Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla as MI defeated SRH by 7 wickets. Here’s a look at the three conditions that can lead to MI reaching the IPL Playoffs – Condition 1:First and foremost, the Hardik Pandya-led side has to win all of its remaining two matches in the IPL 2024 league campaign. MI are scheduled to take on Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants next. Condition 2:Hope that no other team crosses the 12-point mark in IPL 2024 standings. At present, SRH, LSG and CSK already have 12 points to their name. Hence, at least two of these franchises will have to lose their remaining matches in the league campaign. With KKR and RR already sitting at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots respectively with 16 points each, it is impossible for Mumbai Indians to topple them. In fact, big wins against other teams for KKR and RR would only benefit MI. Condition 3:Mumbai Indians have a Net Run Rate of -0.212 at present. Even if MI win all of their remaining matches, they will need to do that by big margins in order to get into a positive NRR. But, that might not be enough if the NRR of other teams at 12 points is better than MI. Though you never say never in a sport like cricket, it’s fair to assert that Mumbai Indians’ chances of IPL 2024 playoffs qualification don’t instill much hope in the hearts of their fans.

India Star Reveals ‘Lie’ To Rahul Dravid That Led To IPL Selection – Old Video Viral

Sanju Samson has been a top performer for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024 till now as the wicket-keeper batter has led by example. The RR skipper has been phenomenal with the bat and his sensational form led to his selection for India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Samson’s journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been an interesting one as he did not get a single game while being part of the Kolkata Knight Riders setup but things changed when he moved to RR in 2013. In a video that has once again gone viral on social media. a young Sanju Samson revealed how a ‘lie’ from S Sreesanth to Rahul Dravid ultimately led to his selection for RR. “Being with KKR, I wasn’t getting a look-in. But during a match against RR, when [Rahul] Dravid was leading them, Sreesanth spotted him in the hotel lobby and vouched for me. He told him, ‘There’s this kid from Kerala who smashed six sixes in an over in a local tournament. We should definitely give him a trial,’” Samson revealed in an old video that has resurfaced on social media. Was in KKR but couldn’t get games, Sreeshanth was in RR & when we had a game with RR where Dravid was their skipper, Sreeshanth stopped Dravid in the hotel & told him, this kid is from kerala, he has hit 6 sixes in an over in a local tourney, we should give him a trial & sanju is… pic.twitter.com/PaxWLb1C90 — arfan (@Im__Arfan) May 5, 2024 Former India fast bowler S Sreesanth earlier confirmed this story in an interview with Sportskeeda where he said that he initially lied to Dravid but the current India coach was impressed with Samson’s batting. “Rahul bhai listened to me when I introduced Sanju to him. I lied to him, I said, ‘This kid hit me for six sixes in a local tournament’. Rahul bhai said, ‘Shree, kuch bhi bol, ye kyu bol raha hai?’ (Say anything, but why are you lying like this),” Sreesanth had said. “He didn’t do too well in a few practice games. But when Rahul bhai saw him bat, he was convinced; he came to me and said, ‘Sree, don’t let this Sanju guy go to any other selection; we are signing him. Whether or not he’d get matches, I don’t know, but we would like to sign him,” he added.

IPL-17: DC vs RR | Delhi Capitals host formidable Rajasthan Royals in a crucial encounter

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant with his teammates during an IPL 2024 match. | Photo Credit: R.V. Moorthy Delhi Capitals’ (DC) stop-start IPL 2024 campaign enters its final lap as it takes on formidable Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on May 7. DC began the season on the wrong foot, losing four of its first five games. But the Rishabh Pant-led side soon clicked into gear, winning four of its next five matches to put itself in contention for a playoff spot. But a heavy defeat against Kolkata Knights Riders in its last match means DC’s top-four chances hinge on other results going its way. For the Royals, the plot has been far more buoyant. Sanju Samson’s men have been on a roll, winning eight of their ten matches. Batting fire-power Royals’ success this season has been built around their well-rounded batting unit. They currently boast four players — Riyan Parag, Samson, Yashavi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler — with a 300+ run tally this season, more than any other team this season. Royals’ batting brawn will fit well with the conditions here, which has seen runs flow faster than any other venue in this IPL (11.85 runs per over). DC too has some firepower in its rank, with the prominent ammunition being its young Aussie opener Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has scored 259 runs at a scarcely believable strike rate of 233.33 in his debut IPL season. When these two sides met earlier in the season, in Jaipur, Rajasthan Royals squeezed out a 12-run win. A similar result on Tuesday could all but ring the death knell for DC’s IPL campaign. Teams: Delhi Capitals: Rishabh Pant (c), David Warner, Abishek Porel, Ricky Bhui, Yash Dhull, Shai Hope, Prithvi Shaw, Tristan Stubbs, Kumar Kushagra, Swastik Chikara, Ishant Sharma, Jhye Richardson, Rasikh Dar Salam, Vicky Ostwal, Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Praveen Dubey, Khaleel Ahmed, Sumit Kumar, Axar Patel, Mitchell Marsh, Lalit Yadav, Jake Fraser-McGurk. Rajasthan Royals: Sanju Samson (c), Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Donovan Ferreira, Kunal Rathore, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Sen, Navdeep Saini, Keshav Maharaj, Sandeep Sharma, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan, Rovman Powell, Shubham Dubey, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Abid Mushtaq, Nandre Burger. Match starts at 7.30 PM.

SRH vs RR, IPL 2024: SunRisers Hyderabad Script Nervy One-Run Win Over Rajasthan Royals In Last-Ball Thriller

Bhuvneshwar Kumar did the star turn with a sensational final over as Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a heist, stunning Rajasthan Royals by just one run in a last-ball thriller to keep their IPL playoff hopes alive on Thursday. Needing two to win off the last delivery, Bhuvneshwar (3/41) trapped Rovman Powell (27) with a full toss to leave RR stranded at 200 for seven while chasing a target of 202. Opting to bat, Nitish Reddy (76 not out) and Travis Head (58) produced explosive fifties, while Heinrich Klassen made an unbeaten 19-ball 42 to power Sunrisers Hyderabad to 201 for three. Things were looking up when Bhuvneshwar removed Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson for ducks in the opening over to leave RR at 1 for 2. However, youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal (67) and Riyan Parag (77) came up with counterattacking fifties on way to a massive 134-run partnership to lay the foundation of the runchase. But once the duo was back in the hut, Shimron Hetmyar (13) hit a four and a six as it seemed like a regulation chase but T Natarajan got rid off Hetmyar, who perished at long-on and then skipper Pat Cummins removed Dhruv Jurel, who was caught at deep square leg in the 19th over. The sudden loss of wickets gave SRH hope of a turnaround but Powell produced a six in the last ball of the 19th over to bring the equation down to 13 off six balls. The West Indian kept a calm head to bring it down to 2 off the last ball but Bhuvneshwar denied him the glory. Following the win, SRH snapped their two-game losing streak and moved to the fourth spot with 12 points, same as Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, while RR stayed at the top with 16 points. Chasing the total, Jaiswal and Parag were dropped early in their innings and they capitalised on the reprieves to script a quick recovery. Parag broke the shackles in third over when he carted Bhuvneshwar for two fours and a six. Jaiswal then blasted Marco Jansen for two boundaries after Cummins spilled a straight forward catch. Parag, who was dropped on 24 by Abhishek Sharma, hammered Cummins for another maximum, before carting Jansen for two more fours. Cummins finally introduced spin into the attack but Jaiswal smashed Shahbaz Ahmed for a four to complete his fifty. Three balls later, Parag produced a reverse sweep four to reach his milestone in 32 balls. Jaiwal then played a T Natarajan delivery onto the stumps, while two overs later Parag was holed out at long-on. Earlier, Head forged a 96-run stand off 57 balls for the third wicket with Nitish, who also added another 70 off 32 balls with Klassen to take SRH across the 200-mark for the fifth time this season. Head, who was dropped by Parag in the first ball of the innings, hit six fours and three sixes, while Nitish smashed eight maximums and three fours during his brutal assault. Playing his 300th game, Yuzvendra Chahal, who has been picked for the T20 World Cup, was on the firing line as he conceded 62 in his quota of four overs. Avesh Khan (2/39) produced the first breakthrough, having Abhishek (12) caught at deep midwicket. Sandeep Sharma (1/31) then claimed a first-ball wicket, removing Anmolpreet Singh (5) as SRH scored 37 for 2 in the powerplay, their lowest this IPL. The spin duo of Chahal and R Ashwin (0/36), however, disappointed as the batters milked them for runs to set SRH on the road to recovery. Chahal had a horrible night as Head smashed him for two sixes and a four during an 18-run over after he came on to bowl immediately following the powerplay. The leg-spinner was then taken apart by Nitish, who plundered him for two sixes and two fours to accumulate 21 runs. Nitish, who also clobbered Ashwin and Avesh for two maximums, then sent Sandeep sailing over extra cover, while Head pulled Avesh for another six in the 15th over. The Australian, however, played the pacer onto his middle stump as SRH slipped to 131/3. New man Klassen then joined the party, sending Chahal into the orbit with back-to-back sixes. When Trent Boult was back, Klassen picked him for two fours, while blasting another six off Sandeep.
