PBKS vs RR Match Prediction & Analysis The 18th match of IPL 2025 featuring Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) is scheduled for April 5, 2025, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh. Punjab Kings have won their first two games and are at the top of the points table with an NRR of 1.485. At the same time, Rajasthan Royals have one win in three games and are in ninth place. Punjab Kings have had an impressive start to their IPL 2025 campaign, securing two consecutive victories. In their opening match on March 25, 2025, against the Gujarat Titans, they clinched the win by 11 runs after posting a formidable total of 243/5. Building on this momentum, PBKS beat LSG by 8 wickets in the second game with Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer scoring half-centuries. TEAMS PREVIEW Punjab Kings Preview Priyansh Arya will open the innings with Prabhasimran Singh. Arya played a knock of 47 runs off 23 deliveries against Gujarat Titans while Singh scored a half-century (69 off 34) in the second game. PBKS’ skipper Shreyas Iyer will be the batter to watch out for. Iyer has scored two unbeaten half-centuries (97* & 52*) in the first two games, hitting 13 sixes. Nehal Wadhera will come at number four after his 43* runs off 25 balls in the last game. Shashank Singh will come in the middle with all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. Singh scored 44 off 16 balls in the second game. Maxwell is yet to score a run with the bat for Punjab but has picked up two wickets with the ball. On the other hand, Stoinis has 20 runs with the bat. He has been expensive with the ball. Arshdeep Singh will lead the bowling attack with Lockie Ferguson and Marco Jenson. Singh will be the bowler to watch out for. He has picked up 5 wickets in the two games. His economy is just below 10. Jansen has two wickets while Ferguson has one in one game. The PBKS bowlers are yet to show their strength. Chahal will be the lead spinner in the bowling attack. Rajasthan Royals Preview Rajasthan Royals’ batting line-up has had a mixed start to IPL 2025, with a few players stepping up while others are still looking for form. Leading from the front, skipper Sanju Samson has been the most consistent performer so far. Across the three matches, he has scored 108 runs, including a fluent 66 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the past, Sanju Samson has dominated Arshdeep Singh, scoring 39 runs off 22 balls at a blazing strike rate of 177.27 without being dismissed, smashing 4 fours and 2 sixes. Another bright spot has been Dhruv Jurel, who impressed with a blistering 70-run knock against SRH. Jurel has accumulated 91 runs in three games and looks promising as a finisher who can change games single-handedly. Nitish Rana has made an immediate impact since joining the playing XI in the second match. He played a match-winning innings of 81 off just 36 balls against Chennai Super Kings, helping RR secure their first victory of the season. Wanindu Hasaranga will lead the bowling attack with Jofra Archer, Tushar Deshpande, and Maheesha Theeksana. Hasaranga has 5 wickets in two games. He picked up four wickets in the last game. He will be the bowler to watch out for. Deshpande picked up three wickets in the first game but remained wicketless in the next two games. Despite showing resilience against CSK, Rajasthan’s bowlers have overall struggled with consistency, particularly at the death, where they have leaked crucial runs. Weather Conditions The weather at Mullanpur, Chandigarh, is expected to be sunny on match day, with temperatures ranging between 19 and 37 degrees Celsius. Winds will blow from the southeast at 8-14 km/h. Rain is expected with the lightning.  It is a batting-friendly pitch. As the game progresses and the pitch gets older, batsmen can play their shots comfortably. PBKS vs RR Pitch Report The game will be played at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh, 7:30 p.m. onwards. The stadium has a capacity of 38,000 spectators Toss: To Bowl In the last IPL season, five games were played at this venue. The results have favored the team chasing the target on three occasions. The team winning the toss should bowl first.

Rajasthan consolidate top spot on points table after hard-fought win over Punjab Kings – India TV

Image Source : AP Rajasthan Royals. Rajasthan Royals (RR) have consolidated their place at the top of the points table after a hard-fought win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Saturday (April 13). Having elected to field first, Rajasthan’s bowling attack applied unrelenting pressure on Punjab’s batting line-up and it paid dividends for them. Rajasthan were able to get breakthroughs at regular intervals and that never allowed the hosts to fly away with the run rate at any stage. Some decent contributions by Jitesh Sharma (29 off 24 balls), Liam Livingstone (21 off 14 balls) and Ashutosh Sharma (31 off 16 balls) helped Punjab post a respectable 147 on the board. While all the Rajasthan bowlers chipped in with handy contributions, left-arm orthodox bowler Keshav Maharaj was the pick of all the bowlers. The South African bagged two wickets and gave away just 23 runs in four overs. In reply, Rajasthan got off to a decent start as Tanush Kotian and Yashasvi Jaiswal put together a 50-run stand before Kotian departed in the ninth over. Jaiswal was the next batter to be dismissed. The southpaw perished after scoring 39 off 28 balls and Rajasthan’s chase got derailed a bit after he fell. The visitors got reduced from 82/2 to 136/6 in 18.3 overs but Shimron Hetmyer didn’t let the game slip out of Rajasthan’s hands. Hetmyer scored 27 off 10 balls and remained unbeaten right till the end to take Rajasthan over the line by three wickets to spare. Fans question PBKS as Sam Curran leads in place of Shikhar Dhawan vs RR – India TV

Image Source : BCCI/IPL Sam Curran was leading the Punjab Kings in place of Shikhar Dhawan against the Rajasthan Royals Punjab Kings (PBKS) had a different captain walk out for the toss against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2024 game at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. Sam Curran, who led the Men in Red in three games last season, stood in for Shikhar Dhawan, who had a bit of a niggle and hence was ruled out of the game. Atharva Taide, the Vidarbha batter replaced Dhawan in the batting line-up. Even though Curran standing in for Dhawan was a continuation, however, it surprised many as everyone expected Jitesh Sharma to lead the Punjab Kings in case the veteran opener wasn’t available. When the captains day happened in Ahmedabad on March 21, Jitesh Sharma represented the Punjab Kings as vice-captain when Dhawan was sick.  “It’s showtime. The #TATAIPL is here and WE are ready to ROCK & ROLL Presenting the 9 captains with PBKS being represented by vice-captain Jitesh Sharma,” the IPL handle had said then. However, seeing Curran at the toss, confused fans as it showed lack of clarity from the management and the amount of trust they have in Jitesh as a captain. Here are some of the reactions: Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to field and his bowlers delivered the goods by restricting the Punjab Kings to 147. Keshav Maharaj was the star of the show with the ball for the Royals as he registered figures for 2/23 with the ball. The Kings were 6 down for 104 and were staring down the barrel before Ashutosh Sharma’s 16-ball 31 cameo lifted them to 147. It might not be a winning score but has given something for the Kings to bowl at. Punjab have a good record with Curran as a captain, having won two out of three games and would hope that it stays that way but their bowlers will have to bowl out of their skins to get the result on their side.

IPL-17: PBKS vs RR | Avesh, Maharaj lead way as Rajasthan Royals restrict Punjab Kings

Rajasthan Royals players celebrate a wicket during the Indian Premier League 2024 match against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 13, 2024. | Photo Credit: Shiv Kumar Pushpakar Rajasthan Royals bowlers under Avesh Khan and Keshav Maharaj exploited a sticky pitch to the hilt to restrict Punjab Kings to an underwhelming 147 for eight in their IPL match in Mullanpur on April 13. Pacer Avesh (2/34) and left-arm spinner Maharaj (2/23) did not allow any breathing space to Kings’ batters after Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson opted to field first. Ashutosh Sharma (31, 16b), Jitesh Sharma (29, 24b) and Liam Livingstone (21, 14b) tried to force the pace but Punjab needed more than those pretty little cameos. But the Kings had a rather quick start to their innings with 26 runs coming in the first three overs as Atharva Taide, who came in for injured skipper Shikhar Dhawan, hammered a couple of fours off pacer Kuldeep Sen. However, the brakes were soon applied as Taide’s mistimed pull off pacer Avesh Khan ended in the hands of Sen inside the circle. Thereafter the Punjab batters struggled to muster any sort of momentum on a pitch that gripped a bit, especially for left-arm spinner Maharaj and leg-spinner Chahal. However, a slice of credit should also go to veteran pacer Trent Boult who conceded just 15 runs in his three power play overs, a stage when the pitch was still fine for batting. The last three power play overs could only fetch 10 runs for Kings as they ended that passage with a modest 38 for one. In the next five overs, the hosts struggled to hit even one boundary as they laboured to 53 for four in 10 overs, losing Jonny Bairstow, stand-in-skipper Sam Curran and Prabhsimran Singh, all consumed by the combination of a slow deck and accurate spinners. Curran’s dismissal was the most telltale example of that. The left-hander failed to impart power or timing to his pull off Maharaj as the ball got even slower after pitching. Dhruv Jurel latched on to a tumbling catch while running in from deep mid-wicket. Their biggest hope on the day could have been the range-hitting ability of in-form Shahshank Singh but a feeble pull off Sen could not progress beyond Jurel at mid-wicket. With the cream of top-order back in the hut without any significant contribution, the PBKS required some hefty hand from Livingstone and Jitesh to get to even a par score. Sharma showed some intent too, clobbering Chahal for a gorgeously timed six over extra over, and later sent Sen for a six to the straight fence before getting out to Avesh. Livingstone, who creamed Sen for a six and four off successive balls through mid-wicket, and Ashutosh, who smoked Avesh for two sixes in the 19th over, helped PBKS add 61 runs in the last five overs, but their effort came a wee bit late.

New signing Keshav Maharaj claimed his first IPL wickets while in-form Avesh Khan took two for 32 to raise Rajasthan’s hopes to extend their lead in the points table. The visiting side also produced some brilliant fielding efforts at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur to deny Punjab 150-plus total. Captain Sanju Samson stole the limelight again with his brilliant fielding effort to run out Liam Livingstone in the 18th over. Ashutosh Sharma, coming in as an impact player, played Yuzvendra Chahal’s delivery at deep mid-wicket and called for a single. Livingstone tried to find the second but Ashutosh was not interested and sent the English star back to stikers’ end.  Samson brilliantly collected a low throw from Tanush Kotian and flicked the ball on stumps while going down on the ground. The replay found Livingstone an inch short of the white line and was given run out by the third umpire.
