‘Team ka satyanash kar diya hai’: Ramiz Raja pulls no punches after Pakistan’s T20I series loss against England | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Ramiz Raja, the former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), criticized the team’s management after their 2-0 loss in the T20I series against England, which took place right before the T20 World Cup.In the 4th T20I at Kennington Oval, England dominated Pakistan in every aspect of the game, successfully chasing down a target of 158 with more than four overs remaining.Pakistan’s performance was hindered by a lack of power in their middle order and the absence of magic from their pace bowlers while defending their target.Ramiz expressed his worries about the experimentation within Pakistan’s white-ball setup. He once again castigated the management for the repercussions that have resulted from their decision to experiment.“They should stop experimenting with the team. Go into a game with a proper combination. You need to get out of the phobia of strike rate because you don’t have that kind of players. Aapne is team ka satyanash kar diya hai (You have completely made a cock-up of this team),” Ramiz said on his YouTube channel.Ramiz has openly expressed his views regarding the decision to introduce Saim Ayub as an opening batsman. This change in the batting lineup disrupted the highly successful partnership between Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, which was implemented during Mohammad Hafeez’s brief tenure as the director of cricket for Pakistan.Since Ayub’s inclusion at the top of the batting order, his performance has been underwhelming. Moreover, Pakistan’s middle-order batsmen have also encountered difficulties in accumulating runs during crucial moments of the game, further compounding the team’s batting woes.“You have ruined the team by breaking the opening pair (of Babar and Rizwan). The role of the middle order is not defined. You have put all-rounders in the middle and two wicket-keepers are playing. You are changing the fast bowlers. Your spinners don’t spin the ball and don’t have the confidence. You put Imad Wasim out of the playing XI. There is no sideways movement and you have completely dismantled the team just before the T20 World Cup,” he added. In the recent T20I series against New Zealand, Ayub faced a tough time finding his form initially. However, he displayed promising improvement by delivering a brisk innings of 45 runs off 29 balls in the first match. Throughout the four matches against the Blackcaps, the 21-year-old managed to accumulate 52 runs at an average of 14.25, with his highest score being 32 in the series. Before Ayub’s inclusion, Babar and Rizwan had been the mainstays as openers for the Pakistani team, forming one of the most formidable opening partnerships in T20Is. Their partnership reached new heights during the last Men’s T20I World Cup in 2022, where they notably shared a record-breaking 105-run stand. This was their third century partnership in the tournament, highlighting their exceptional chemistry and batting prowess.Heading into the upcoming tournament, Pakistan finds itself placed in Group A, alongside notable competitors like arch-rival India, as well as Canada, USA, and Ireland. Their journey kicks off with a match against co-hosts USA at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas, scheduled for Thursday.(With ANI inputs)

'Will send team to Pakistan only if...': BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla on India's Champions Trophy participation | Cricket News

‘Will send team to Pakistan only if…’: BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla on India’s Champions Trophy participation | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Rajeev Shukla, the vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has clarified that the Indian team’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy next year, scheduled to be held in Pakistan from February to March 2025, is contingent upon receiving approval from the central government. The statement comes amidst speculation regarding India’s potential absence from the tournament.Tensions between India and Pakistan have significantly impacted cricketing relations between the two nations since 2008, following the Asia Cup. Bilateral series between India and Pakistan have been suspended since December 2012-January 2013, with ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup serving as the primary platforms for their cricketing encounters. The decision to send the Indian team to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy hinges on various factors, including the prevailing diplomatic and security situation between the two countries. Given the history of strained relations and security concerns, any decision regarding India’s participation will be subject to careful consideration and consultation with relevant authorities.Speaking to the ANI, Shukla said, “In the case of the Champion Trophy, we will do whatever the Government of India will tell us to do. We send our team only when the Government of India gives us permission. So we will go according to the decision of the Indian government.” Pakistan resorted to a hybrid strategy during the hosting of the Asia Cup last year due to logistical and security challenges, notably hosting all of India’s matches, including potential encounters against Pakistan, in Sri Lanka. This decision was made in the interest of ensuring the smooth conduct of the tournament while accommodating security concerns and diplomatic sensitivities.Contrastingly, when it came to the possibility of adopting a similar hybrid approach for the ODI World Cup hosted by India the previous year, Pakistan did not seriously consider such a strategy.Instead, they participated in the tournament in India, playing all their matches at various venues across the country. Despite initial discussions regarding the feasibility of a hybrid approach, Pakistan ultimately competed in the tournament in India, albeit facing challenges in the group stages and being eliminated early on.It’s worth noting that Pakistan holds the distinction of being the defending champions of the ICC Champions Trophy, with their triumph in the last edition held in 2017. As they gear up for future tournaments, Pakistan will undoubtedly aim to replicate their past success on the global stage. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has designated Lahore as the only location for India matches for the Champions Trophy that Pakistan has been awarded for the next year, as ESPNcricinfo reported earlier in May.According to ESPNcricinfo, PCB has locked three locations–Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi–to host the two-week Champions Trophy. India’s draft schedule calls for them to play all of their games at Lahore, which is also the location of the final. It is said that the idea of putting India in a single place was put forward to avoid potentially significant logistical and security issues related to their travel. Additionally, it gives Indian fans a comparatively easier choice to visit because it is headquartered in Lahore, which is near the Wagah border crossing between the two countries.PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said earlier that the board had sent a draft schedule of the tournament, likely to be staged in mid-February next year, to the ICC. Discussions on it involving the eight participating members will take place, with the major sticking point likely to be whether the India team travels or not.(With ANI inputs)

‘If Babar Azam hits three straight sixes, I will…’: Ex-Pakistan cricketer challenges current T20 captain | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has thrown down the gauntlet to current captain Babar Azam. Ali challenges Azam to hit three consecutive sixes straight down the ground against top-tier teams. If Azam succeeds, Ali has vowed to delete his YouTube channel.“If Babar Azam hits three straight sixes against top teams, not against the likes of the USA or Ireland, but against top teams, I will shut down my YouTube channel. If he accepts this challenge, he should say that he accepts it. And if he can’t hit those sixes in the World Cup, then he shouldn’t open the batting,” said Ali.The 29-year-old batsman has recently been reappointed as the white-ball captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. This decision to reinstate Azam as the captain of the T20 side came after Azam had initially stepped down from the role in November, leading to Shaheen Shah Afridi‘s appointment. The announcement was made by the PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi after spending nearly two hours with the players here before their departure for the away T20 series against Ireland and England on Monday night. He also told the players “not to care about anyone” but to just play for Pakistan and demonstrate teamwork, and, “God willing”, victory will be gained by the team. Naqvi further said that all the players were united while also expressing the hope that fast-bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi would deliver a great performance in the tournament. “The country has a lot of expectations from you. You have to fulfil them,” he told the players. During his visit, the PCB chairman also handed out special shirts to players for achieving milestones. Pakistan Super League set to clash with Indian Premier League in 2025 due to ICC Champions Trophy – India TV

Image Source : PTI AND ISLAMABAD UNITED/X IPL and PSL. Two of the biggest T20 leagues in the Indian Subcontinent are set to clash with one another for the first time since their inception after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed the window for the 10th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). PSL, which normally runs from February to March is highly likely to clash with arguably the biggest T20 league in the world, the IPL (Indian Premier League) due to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Since, its inaugural edition in 2016, PSL has avoided a clash with the Indian Premier League as much as possible. However, with the ICC Champions Trophy slated to be organised in February 2025, the PSL is likely to get pushed further and might have to run concurrently with the IPL in April-May. The window was proposed on Saturday (May 4) at a meeting between the PCB and the six franchises which are a part of the PSL and a final decision will be taken at the formal PSL General Council meeting, slated to take place at the end of May. The PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer revealed that a change in schedule for PSL 2025 was discussed in the meeting and a “more informed decision” will be made at the General Council meeting. “As always, we had a very exciting and interesting brainstorming session with the franchise owners on the window for HBL Pakistan Super League 2025. The passionate franchise owners provided their all-rounded insight and views on the PCB-recommended window and playoff venues for the 2025 event and beyond,” said Naseer in a PCB release. “At the back of this meeting, and in relation to the most suitable window for HBL PSL 2025 and beyond, the PCB will share further data with the franchise owners so that they can discuss amongst themselves, make a more informed decision and share their ideas and thoughts at the General Council meeting. “We look forward to working closely with the franchisees to take timely decisions for the future trajectory of one of Pakistan’s biggest brands.”

‘It will be tough to refuse ICC events’: Rashid Latif warns India amid doubts over visit to Pakistan for Champions Trophy | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif has stated that India will need to provide a “logical answer” to the ICC if they choose not to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy next year. He believes that refusing to participate in an ICC event can have negative consequences for the team. Sources have indicated that Team India may not take part in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, with discussions about potentially changing the venue or adopting a hybrid model. “You can refuse the bilateral series. But it will be tough to refuse ICC events. When ICC chalk out its plan, the teams know where they have to play, like Pakistan knew that they have to go to India to play the World Cup, and contracts are signed accordingly for cricket boards,” Latif said.He further added, “It seems a bit tough to refuse ICC events… In the 1996 World Cup, Australia and West Indies refused to go to Sri Lanka and the entire group changed and Sri Lanka became the champion. This was a very big mistake… If India or Pakistan has signed in, they will have to go for that event. If any circumstances occur on a government level, then you have to provide a logical answer as to why not coming. You can refuse the bilateral series citing the conditions in Pakistan are not right etc etc… In my opinion, refusing an ICC event can backfire.”According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board has suggested to the ICC that India’s qualifying round matches during the Champions Trophy be held in a single city. The PCB has selected Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore as the tournament venues, with Lahore hosting the final match.(Inputs from IANS)
