Evin Lewis, Akeal Hosein annihilate Ireland in 3rd T20I, set up 1-0 series win for West Indies
West Indies registered a dominating 62-run win over Ireland in the third and final T20I to win the series 1-0 on Sunday, June 15 at Bready Cricket Club, Bready, Northern Ireland. After being put in to bat first, West Indies posted their second-highest score in T20I history of 256/5, riding on a splendid innings from Evin Lewis of 91 (44). In reply, Ireland were restricted to 194/7 in their allotted 20 overs Akeil Hosein ran through their batting order, scalping three wickets, giving away 27 runs in four overs. Earlier, West Indies got off to a cautious start to their innings as Lewis scored just two runs off his first seven balls. He collected his first boundary in the third over against Barry McCarthy, who was also tonked for a four and six by captain Shai Hope as well in the same over. The over gave the much-needed impetus to West Indies’ innings as both Lewis and Hope began dealing in boundaries. The duo added 70 runs in the powerplay, despite a slow start. Lewis was even given a reprieve on 45 and the southpaw made sure that the Irish rued their mistake by whacking a maximum and three successive fours off his next four deliveries as he brought up his half century off 29 deliveries. At the other end, Hopes also brought up his half century off 23 balls as he put on a massive 122-run stand off 64 deliveries with Lewis. Their partnership was finally broken as Barry McCarthy got rid of Hope for 51 (27) while Lewis clobbered seven fours and eight sixes en route to his 44-ball 91. Following their dismissals, Keacy Carty played a belligerent innings of 49* (22) and got involved in crucial stands with Shimron Hetmyer (15 off 7), Jason Holder (18 off 13) and Romario Shepherd (19* off 6) to propel West Indies to a mammoth score of 256/5. Amid the run fest, Matthew Humphreys bowled a remarkable spell of 0/16 in four overs while Liam McCarthy registered the second most expensive figures in T20Is, leaking 81 runs from his four overs. In reply, Ireland lost their captain Paul Stirling (13 off 6) early in the innings, but his opening partner Ross Adair (48 off 36) and Harry Tector (38 off 25) calmed the nerves in the dressing room with their massive stand of 101 (58). Despite their massive stand, Ireland couldn’t keep up with the required run rate, which triggered a batting collapse in the middle order. Akeal Hosein (3/27) and Jason Holder (2/49) emerged as the top wicket-takers for West Indies, guiding them to a 62-run win. As a result, West Indies sealed the three-match series by 1-0 after the first two matches were washed out due to rain. Published By: Rishabh Beniwal Published On: Jun 16, 2025
