Watch: Calling Babar Azam ‘king’ is like a click-bait YouTube thumbnail, says former Pakistan captain Salman Butt | Cricket News

Captain Babar Azam and the Pakistan team continue to draw flak for their lackluster show in the ongoing T20 World Cup, where the team’s hopes of progressing to the ‘Super 8’ stage are not anymore in their hands alone. The 2009 champions faced a shocking defeat to USA in their opening match, which they lost in ‘Super Over’ tiebreaker. It followed a defeat against traditional rivals India after being in the winning position for 32 of the 40 overs in the match. T20 WORLD CUP: Schedule | Points Table The team came back to beat Canada in their next match, but with two points from three matches and just a game against Ireland left to play, Pakistan now also require other results to be in their favour to finish second in the group and advance to the next round. This has led to Pakistan’s former players lambasting captain Babar and his team. In another such video on social media, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt could be seen taking Babar & Co to task.“There is self proclamation that our captain is the king and the other is world’s best fast bowler,” said Butt, with his fingers perhaps pointing towards seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi. “Sometimes we compare this guy with (Jasprit) Bumrah and him (Babar) with (Virat) Kohli…Okay, you touched ICC (top) ranking at one point, but also touch reality sometime. Are you able to win a match on your own? Is there a standing of our team?“It’s similar to those YouTube thumbnails that you are enticed to click and open once.”WATCH VIDEO Butt added that some of the decisions taken in Pakistan cricket are influenced by social media campaigns. “Besides its good things, one bad thing about social media is that you can get anything done by paid campaigns…your decisions are based on paid campaigns,” Butt said. “We should bring these self-proclaimed greats back on earth and (tell them to) stay who they are. First win a match, a big tournament, fight it out to win against a big team, finish a match single-handedly, then think what you want to proclaim,” a visibly angry Butt added. He said that there is no comparison with India at the moment, who have grown with the game and are mentally a much tougher unit now. “India is very different from us…Their mental superiority is winning them matches…Because of being consistent, because of playing tougher teams, playing better cricket and giving better results, mentally they are accustomed now. They don’t feel the pressure now like they used to earlier,” said Butt. “But we haven’t grown. There are changes in cricket every year, but we are not growing with that, so we are getting weaker. The other teams are growing, mentally as well.”

India bowling coach terms team’s performance vs Pakistan ‘best ever’ in T20Is – India TV

Image Source : GETTY Team India Team India has won both its matches so far in the ongoing T20 World Cup against Ireland and Pakistan. While it was a cakewalk against Ireland, the performance of the men in blue against arch-rivals Pakistan defending 119 runs is certainly being termed one of the best. The bowling unit led by Jasprit Bumrah clicked in unison on the day as India restricted the opposition to just 113 runs in 20 overs. The bowling coach Paras Mhambrey is delighted with the team’s show with the ball so far terming the effort from the bowlers the best in the format. While speaking ahead of the game against the USA, he recalled India’s best bowling performances under him in Tests against South Africa. “Well, there were a couple of them. I thought in a different format. I thought the Test win in South Africa, the last game that we played in South Africa was phenomenal. “But yeah, if you look at the context of the game, if you look at the tournament, the pressure, the way we handled the pressure, this was definitely very much up there in terms of the performance, fabulous performance,” Mahmbrey said on the eve of the USA clash. Meanwhile, Paras Mhambrey has also cautioned the Indian team to take USA seriously as they are coming off brilliant wins over Canada and Pakistan. He also pointed out that no team can be taken lightly in a World Cup. “You can’t take any game lightly. This is the World Cup. Every game matters. Your rhythm is important. Winning is a habit that you need to get into early. You need to get in early to perform. “I think in the context of the game, every game is important. So, for us, it’s going to be like any other game. It’s like we played Pakistan, like we played Ireland (both full members of the ICC). It’s going to be a similar game for us,” India’s bowling coach added.

Babar Azam worried as kid starts crying more after he gifts him gloves: ‘I saw him in India vs Pakistan match…’

Pakistan captain Babar Azam shared a wholesome moment with a boy during the T20 World Cup matches against India and Canada at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York. Pakistan started their campaign in Dallas, Texas, where they suffered a shock defeat to the USA and then moved to New York for their next two matches against India and Canada. That is where the boy attracted Babar’s attention. Pakistan captain Babar Azam tries to console a kid Babar said he first met the boy during the match against India. He noticed him crying during the national anthem and tried to comfort him. “I met this kid during the India vs Pakistan match. After the anthem, he came to me and started crying. I got worried. I asked if anyone said anything to him. Then he said he is a fan,” Babar told presenter Sanjana Ganeshan in an interview for ICC. Date mein Crickit, late mein Crickit! Catch the game anytime, anywhere on Crickit. Find out how The Pakistan captain said the boy did the same thing in the match against Canada. “He did the same thing today (against Canada). He was standing in the line and crying. We all have experienced this. When you meet a star, the excitement is at a different level.” When Sanjana, who is also the wife of India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, asked about his gesture of gifting his gloves to the kid, Babar said: “I thought if he is such a big fan then I should also have some responsibility to give him something as a gift. Something memorable. I had my gloves in my hands. I gave him that. He got very excited and started crying even more. I told him not to worry. Then, while crying, he requested me to sign it,” Babar added. Babar Azam was relieved to have logged their first win in the T20 World Cup on Tuesday, and said they couldn’t complete their chase of 107 in lesser number of overs because of a difficult pitch. Having suffered back-to-back defeats against USA and India in their first two Group A matches, the game against Canada was a must-win tie for Pakistan. Chasing a modest target, Pakistan rode on Mohammad Rizwan’s run-a-ball unbeaten 53 and Babar’s 33 to get over the line in 17.3 overs. “Good for us, we need this win. We started well with the bowling, in the first six overs we know we had to be up to the mark,” Babar said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Culture, client…all the reasons India-Pakistan match was a packed house in US | Cricket News

For many Indians the matches are an opportunity to provide their kids first-hand experience of a game they once-adored but could no more experience liveNASSAU COUNTY (New York): Even the most die-hard fan of cricket won’t spend $6000 (roughly rupees 5 lakh) to watch just one over of India-Pakistan match. But for some Indians who flew from all corners of the US for the Sunday match, game was a key but not the only reason to be present in the stadium.Ashish Agarwal, a marketing executive with an insurance tech startup, had flown in from Louisville, Kentucky, along with his two sons, Adit and Arav.He had spent almost $1,600 (roughly Rupees 1.32 lakh) each for the tickets, purchased from the ticket sales company Vivid Seats.T20 WORLD CUP: Schedule | Points Table“We are hoping that it doesn’t get rained out,” he said, as the three stood in a long line in front of a food stall during the rain break. Rain had interrupted the game after one over of Indian innings.Agarwal, whose extended family lives in Mumbai, had only watched one cricket match live in the United States, a college match, during the more than two decades he has lived in the US. For Adit, a student at Indiana University, and Arav, a high schooler, both born in the US, it was their first cricket experience. “I don’t know much about cricket, I am here for the overall experience,” said Adit, who played American football in school.“I think, for these kids, it is more about … being part of the Indian community and Indian culture,” Agarwal said. “It is as much a sporting event as cultural, and let the best team win today. That’s what I told some of my Pakistani friends.”Like the Agarwals, a significant portion of the crowd was there for the cultural connection and the experience. New Jersey businessman Ramesh Parikh came to watch the match with his son Deep. Growing up in Calcutta (now Kolkata), Parikh’s cricketing idols were former Indian stars Polly Umrigar and Chandu Borde. After moving to the United States in 1969, he had stopped following the game he loved. The father and son were there to celebrate the elder Parikh’s 78th birthday, which falls on June 10, the day after the match.Business executives consisted of another major section of the crowd. One reason tickets were prohibitively expensive, even for an average resident of the world’s largest economy (with a per capita income of more than $85,000), was the rush from companies to scoop them up. Since New York is a global corporate hub, a strong presence of business executives was expected. Businesses, particularly those with ties to India, viewed the match as a chance to entertain their clients and guests. One such company was the law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.“We had more than 50 guests and business associates from around the world join us for the event,” said Prakash Mehta, a partner at the firm, who mainly focuses on investment management.Mehta, a member of the board of directors of the U.S.-India Business Council, said that his firm hosted parties for clients and guests in Manhattan on two successive nights prior to the match. The two other organizations with a big presence in the stands and boxes were Washington Freedom, a Major League Cricket team owned by Indian American businessman Sanjay Govil, and Indiaspora, the influential diaspora network founded by San Francisco investor MR Rangaswami.Notably, the Indiaspora group arrived at the stadium from Manhattan on two buses adorned with the organization’s logo. Among the prominent passengers was former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi, proudly wearing an India jersey.(Asif Ismail is publisher of The American Bazaar and DesiMax)

Kamran Akmal apologises for distasteful religious comment on Arshdeep after being pulled up by Harbhajan Singh – India TV

Image Source : GETTY Kamran Akmal after being pulled up for his distasteful comment on Arshdeep Singh, has apologised for hurting Sikh sentiments after the Ind vs Pak match Former Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Kamran Akmal has apologised for his distasteful comment on Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh on Live TV during the India vs Pakistan match in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Akmal faced backlash for his comments as former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh pulled him up on social media for hurting Sikh sentiments before the ex-Pakistan cricketer admitted that he was disrespectful and his words were inappopriate. “I deeply regret my recent comments and sincerely apologize to Harbhajan Singh and the Sikh community. My words were inappropriate and disrespectful. I have the utmost respect for Sikhs all over the world and never intended to hurt anyone. I am truly sorry. #Respect #Apology,” Akmal wrote on Twitter (now X), tagging the former India cricketer. During the 19th over of the innings, Kamran Akmal on ARY News went to the extent of saying, “Kuch bhi ho sakta hai… Dekhe last over karna Arshdeep Singh ne hai. Waise uska rhythm nahi laga. 12 baj gaye hai (Anything can happen. The last over will be bowled by Arshdeep Singh; he hasn’t looked in a great rhythm. And It is already 12).” Many users on X pointed out that it was in a reference to the Nasir Shah invasion of India, which has led to several 12 o’ clock theories and jokes. As soon as the video went viral on social media, Harbhajan Singh quoted the same while shutting Akmal down and explaining a bit on the invasion story. “Lakh di laanat tere Kamraan Akhmal.. You should know the history of sikhs before you open your filthy mouth. We Sikhs saved your mothers and sisters when they were abducted by invaders, the time invariably was 12 o’clock . Shame on you…Have some Gratitude,” he wrote. Arshdeep, who was coming off taking a crucial catch in the 19th over to send back Iftikhar Ahmed, defended 18 runs in the final over and also dismissed Imad Wasim to get his side home. Arshdeep has been brilliant with the ball for India in T20 World Cup once again as he showed his new ball skills in the first game against Ireland and in the death overs against Pakistan as the Men in Green remain winless after two games.

Watch: USA not taking any chances with Virat Kohli’s security at T20 World Cup | Cricket News

Virat Kohli is arguably the biggest name visiting the United States these days and the co-hosts of the ICC T20 World Cup are taking no chances with the security of the legendary Indian cricketer. The security arrangements for the tournament, especially for Kohli and the Indian team, have been understandably heightened after multiple reports of security threats to the tournament from militant organizations. In a video circulating on social media, Kohli could be seen arriving at the ground surrounded by officials and armed guards.
