England name 14-man squad for first Test vs India, recall surprise pacer with just one cap after 3-year absence

England have announced a 14-member squad for the opening Test of the series against India, which begins June 20 at Headingley. Ben Stokes will lead the side, with Jamie Overton making a return to the Test team after nearly three years. Overton has played only one Test so far, with his sole appearance coming against New Zealand in 2022. Gus Atkinson was unavailable for selection due to a right hamstring injury sustained during the recent Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge England’s captain Ben Stokes (C) and his players prepare to start on the third day of the four day Test cricket match between England and Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge in Nottingham(AFP) Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Overton, and Josh Tongue feature in the pace attack, with Shoaib Bashir included as the sole spinning option. Jacob Bethell also returns to the Test team after missing the one-off match against Zimbabwe last month. The 14-member squad included the top-3 of Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope, who smashed brilliant centuries against Zimbabwe. Jamie Smith is expected to keep the wickets, retaining the role he played in the Zimbabwe Test. England squad: Ben Stokes (Durham) – Captain, Shoaib Bashir (Somerset), Jacob Bethell (Warwickshire), Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Brydon Carse (Durham), Sam Cook (Essex), Zak Crawley (Kent), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Jamie Overton (Surrey), Ollie Pope (Surrey), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jamie Smith (Surrey), Josh Tongue (Nottinghamshire), and Chris Woakes (Warwickshire) The BCCI, meanwhile, had earlier announced an 18-member squad for the England Test tour, which featured a new Indian Test captain in Shubman Gill. With both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retiring from the format, the tour will mark the beginning of India’s generational transition; this will also be India’s first Test series without Ravichandran Ashwin, who had earlier called time on his international career during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Karun Nair made a return to the Indian Test squad after over eight years, and produced a brilliant performance during his outing for India A against England Lions last week. Nair hit a double century in the game, while Abhimanyu Easwaran, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Nitish Kumar Reddy – all part of the squad – smashed half-centuries in the second innings. Gautam Gambhir, the Indian head coach, and Gill will address the media in a pre-departure press conference on Wednesday.

India vs England, IND vs ENG 2025, Today Match Prediction

𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇 : India vs England 𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 : January 25, Saturday𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 : 19:00 PM IST𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐔𝐄 : M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, India𝐓𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 : 2nd T20 2025 After a very convincing win on Wednesday, India look to go 2-0 up in the five-match series in Chennai on Saturday evening. India vs England TV channels: The fans can watch the match live on Hotstar Live Streaming: Live streaming of the match will be available on the FAFA191 Cricket Exchange India and website. IND vs ENG Match Prediction & Analysis The series opener at Eden Gardens was supposed to be a tight affair which would setup the rest of the series to be a close contest but it could not have been any further from what we saw on Wednesday evening with India crushing England with both bat and ball. In fact, India getting over the line with 43 balls remaining created an unwanted record for England in this format! As ever, the BazBall England approach is to shrug off any setback by repeating their commitment to their attacking approach in any format of cricket and that could certainly lead to an exciting second match of the series. Will England be able to inflict a heavy defeat of their own or will India find England just as easy to knock over in Chennai? TEAMS PREVIEW India Preview Too good with the ball followed by too strong with the bat was the story of India’s victory over England at Eden Gardens on Wednesday evening and Suryakumar Yadav will be looking to follow a similar script down in Chennai on Saturday night! Spinner Ravi Bishnoi was the only member of the bowling attack to go wicketless in the opening game but even he returned excellent T20 figures of 0/22 from his four overs. He will be a threat once again in Tamil Nadu but so will his spin colleagues Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy. Then there is also Arshdeep Singh, who dismissed Phil Salt with the third ball of the game and returned to get Ben Duckett out in his next over and he remains one of the best new ball bowlers in T20I cricket. England Preview Only captain Jos Buttler (68 runs from 44 balls), Harry Brook (17 runs from 14 balls) and Jofra Archer (12 runs from ten balls) managed to contribute a score in double figures for England on Wednesday and that will be a huge area of concern for the team management. The batters looked pretty clueless when it came to facing Varun Chakravarthy and they will have to devise a plan pretty quickly if they are not going to find themselves spun into trouble once more here in Chennai. Weather Conditions According to the forecast, it will get progressively more humid across Saturday evening but it will be already over 65% at the start of the game. Clear skies with the temperature over 25 degrees throughout. IND vs ENG Pitch Report There is always something for the spin bowlers at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium and we expect this to be no different on Saturday evening. Both teams will look to play positively but in the knowledge that a score of 175 in the first innings is likely to be competitive. Toss: To Bowl This will be only the third T20I to take place in Chennai and the first since India beat West Indies by six wickets in 2018! After seeing how easily India chased down the target at Eden Gardens and with the conditions unlikely to change much across the evening we predict that both captains will want to bowl first.

𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇 : India vs England 𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 :  January 22, Wednesday 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 : 19:00 PM IST 𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐔𝐄 : Eden Gardens, Kolkata, India 𝐓𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 : 1st T20 2025 Bazball enters white ball international cricket as England tour India starting with this T20I on Wednesday evening at Eden Gardens. India vs England TV channels: The fans can watch the match live on Hotstar Live Streaming: Live streaming of the match will be available on the FAFA191 Cricket Exchange India and website. IND vs ENG Match Prediction & Analysis Any series in any format between India and England is one which gets cricket fans across the globe excited and talking! This five match T20I series, which will be followed by a three game ODI series ahead of next month’s ICC Champions Trophy, will be sure to have neutrals as well as passionate India and England supporters glued to each fixture. There is more than the usual excitement ahead of this series as there is the big global tournament coming next month. Furthermore, England are under new management in this format with their Test head honcho, Brendan McCullum, who has changed the team’s entire approach to Test cricket, bringing the same approach to white ball cricket. But will England be able to take on the might of India in their own backyard and go toe to toe with them? That is the question ahead of this opener which sees both teams field full teams.  TEAMS PREVIEW India Preview Many international teams would not have been able to deal with the loss of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja at the same time whilst remaining competitive in T20I cricket but India are no ordinary side! Those three generational players called time on their T20I careers after the T20 World Cup last July but India have played so many games without them over the last few years that all the players in their side now have experience as well as all the key skills to thrive at this level. With the bat, captain Suryakumar Yadav, Abhishek Sharma and Rinku Singh are likely to bring the fireworks with the likes of Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson still playing positively but looking to also bat some time. England Preview England are another T20I side who have moved on from a group of players who had served them so well over the previous decade with the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali and Dawid Malan no longer in the thoughts of the selectors. Jos Buttler continues to lead the side and it will be interesting to see how he works with the new coach after he seemed a little put out and not at his best under the last regime. McCullum will no doubt be keen to empower the likes of Ben Duckett, Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell, all of who he has seen flourish in Test cricket. With the ball, England could well unleash the new ball pairing of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood to send down some rockets at the Indian batters. Buttler also has some strong spin options as well with Rehan Ahmed and the experienced Adil Rashid likely to start in this game. Weather Conditions It will be a warm and sunny day in Kolkata ahead of this game with the temperature likely to fall from the high twenties to the mid-low twenties across the match. Clear skies will be in order with humidity reaching 65% by the end of the contest. IND vs ENG Pitch Report Of the bowlers, pacers tend to have to work harder than spinners to pick up wickets at Eden Gardens, although the whole venue is also seen as batter friendly. Whoever bats first will be looking to post a score around 200 on Wednesday evening. Toss: To Bat Three of the last four T20Is at Eden Gardens have been won by the team batting first and with the conditions unlikely to change much across the evening, we predict that both captains will want to bat first ahead of this game.
