Travis Head storms into top ten ICC T20I batting rankings; Babar Azam jumps to third spot – India TV

Image Source : GETTY Travis Head during the AUS vs ENG T20 World Cup 2024 game in Bridgetown on June 8, 2024 Travis Head entered the top ten of the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings after a couple of explosive knocks in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday, June 12. The Australian batter entered the top ten rankings for the first time in his career having recently established as one of the best big-hitters in T20 cricket.  Head has scored 80 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 177.77 as Australia secured the Super 8 qualification with a thumping win over Namibia on Wednesday. Head jumped six places up to the tenth spot with his career-best ratings of 651. Head became Australia’s top-ranked batter in the ICC rankings, replacing the 14th-placed Mitchell Marsh. In major changes to the T20I rankings, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam jumped to third position in the ICC T20I battings rankings. Babar replaced compatriot Mohammad Rizwan who slipped to fourth place after struggling to impress in the ongoing World Cup in the USA and West Indies.  Both Babar and Rizwan are struggling to impress in the ICC T20 World Cup as Pakistan is potentially facing an early elimination with just one win in three matches. Babar has scored 90 runs at a strike rate of 104.65 while Rizwan has top-scored with 93 runs at 88.57.  England’s wicketkeeper batter Phil Salt remains in the second spot with 800 ratings and battles for the top spot with India’s Suryakumar Yadav who has 837 ratings despite a poor display in the first two matches in the World Cup. Suryakumar has been dominating the top spot in the T20I batting rankings for the last couple of years but is facing a strong competition after scoring just nine runs in two innings in the USA.  However, despite not featuring in the playing eleven of the first two games, Yashasvi Jaiswal holds on to his sixth position in the ICC T20I batting rankings. Suryakumar and Jaiswal are the only two Indian cricketers in the top ten of the batting rankings and are followed by Ruturaj Gaikwad (13), Rinku Singh (35), Virat Kohli (48) and Rohit Sharma (49).

Australia steamroll Namibia to qualify for Super 8 stage of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 – India TV

Image Source : AP Australia vs Namibia. Another spectacular bowling performance by Adam Zampa helped Australia steamroll Namibia in the 24th match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to qualify for the Super Eight stage of the tournament. Zampa bagged figures of 4/12 in his four-over spell and helped the Aussies reduce Namibia to just 72 before the Aussie batters made light work of the chase. The game was all about Zampa, who bagged the Player of the Match (POTM) honour for his phenomenal spell of spin bowling. Zampa, 32, bagged the wickets of Zane Green, David Wiese, Ruben Trumplemann and Bernard Scholtz to claim yet another four-wicket haul of his T20I career and also became the first Australian player to snare 100 scalps in T20I cricket. His mesmerising spin-bowling effort was too hot to handle for Namibia and they looked like a rabbit in headlights. Barring their skipper Gerhard Erasmus (36 off 43 balls) and opener Michael van Lingen (10 off as many deliveries), none of the other batters held the fort for the team. Namibia got bowled out for 72 in 17 overs and ended up registering their lowest total in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Their previous lowest was 96 which came against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi during the 2021 edition of the marquee tournament. In reply, David Warner led the charge with the bat for the Kangaroos. The southpaw scored 20 off just eight deliveries at a strike rate of 250.00, including three fours and a maximum. His departure in the second over brought Mitchell Marsh to the crease and the Aussie skipper paired up with Travis Head to take his team home by nine wickets. Marsh seemed fairly pleased by the performance and expressed happiness about Australia’s qualification into the Super Eight. “I thought it was a great performance from our bowling team. It was a beautiful wicket, a bit of swing out there. A professional performance. Great to qualify for the Super Eight,” Marsh said during the post-match presentation.

Rishabh Pant turns emotional after participating in first net session with Team India following car crash – India TV

Image Source : BCCI/X SCREENGRAB Rishabh Pant. Rishabh Pant turned emotional after his return to the Indian senior men’s cricket team following a hiatus of 528 days. In a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Pant expressed his ecstasy following a net session with the other members of the India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. “Getting back on the field with the Indian jersey on is a different feel altogether and this is something I have missed a lot,” said Pant. “I think seeing the teammates, meeting them again, spending time, having fun with them (something I really missed) and I am really enjoying it.” The wicketkeeper-batter also opened up on ICC ‘s move to organise a marquee tournament like the T20 World Cup in the USA. He opined that the decision can help in garnering more attention and fan following for the sport. “We are used to playing in certain countries but this is a different prospect. It has opened a different channel for sport because I feel cricket is growing around the world and getting in a country like USA and getting the exposure here would be nice for cricket as well as for USA cricket.” The T20 World Cup venues in the USA are going to use drop-in pitches for the entire course of the tournament and hence Pant believes it is indispensable for the players to acclimatise as soon as possible. “New pitches are there, everything is getting set up. Just getting used to the conditions I think the sun is a bit more brighter over here so just getting used to it. (On the opportunity to play in the World Cup) Hopefully I make it count,” he added. The southpaw has the opportunity to improve his T20 World Cup numbers which do not make for a good reading. Pant has played seven T20 World Cup games in his career so far and aggregated just 87 runs at a strike rate of 122.53.
