HazleGod: Josh Hazlewood and Australian teammates react to pacer’s new nickname
Josh Hazlewood and his Australian teammates Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon reacted to the pacer’s new nickname ‘HazleGod’ which he got after his sensational performance during the recently-concluded IPL 2025 season. Hazlewood was RCB’s best bowler as he picked up 22 wickets in 12 matches as they went on to win the IPL title for the very first time. The RCB and cricket fans in India started calling him ‘HazleGod’, a nickname that the pacer himself is hoping will run out of steam quickly. Speaking to the ICC ahead of the World Test Championship final, Hazlewood said that while the name is flattering, he doesn’t feel it will work out in Australia. It’s flattering, obviously, to hear it around the grounds in India, but I don’t think it’ll take off in Australia,” said Hazlewood. ‘Hopefully it sticks’ While Hazlewood is hoping the name will die down, Mitchell Starc is hoping it won’t. Starc said that he wants the name to stick as Hazlewood isn’t a fan of it. The left-arm pacer said he is looking forward to see his teammate in action at Lord’s during the WTC final. “Hopefully, it sticks because I don’t think he likes it too much. He’s had a fantastic few months, the big fella over in India, and he’s come home with bags of cash. So I look forward to seeing him in action here at Lord’s,” Starc said in the same video. While Starc said Hazlewood isn’t a fan of the nickname, Nathan Lyon claimed that the pacer referred to himself as ‘HazleGod’ the other day, which caught him off guard. Lyon feels that Hazlewood is planning to run with the name. “HazleGod, he actually referred to himself as it the other day, which totally took me by surprise. Off the back of him winning the IPL, I think he’s running with it,” said Lyon. Hazlewood and Australia will be in action when they face South Africa in the WTC Final, starting from June 11.
