England Overwhelm Pakistan In Final T20I Match Before World Cup Defence

England Overwhelm Pakistan In Final T20I Match Before World Cup Defence

Reigning champions England produced a fine all-round display as they beat Pakistan by seven wickets at The Oval on Thursday in their last competitive match before they begin the defence of their Twenty20 World Cup title. England restricted Pakistan to a modest 157 after winning the toss, with leg-spinner Adil Rashid, the player-of-the-match taking 2-27 from his maximum four overs. They then made a rapid start to their chase as Phil Salt (45) and skipper Jos Buttler (39) shared a blistering opening stand of 82 inside seven overs. Harry Brook ended the game with a six off paceman Haris Rauf, the pick of the Pakistan attack with 3-38, as England finished on 158-6 to win with more than three overs to spare. Victory gave England a 2-0 triumph in a four-match T20 series where games at Headingley and Cardiff were both washed out without a ball bowled. “We have worked hard in training and there is a good feeling around the squad,” Buttler told Sky Sports. Buttler was leading England after his wife gave birth to the couple’s third child following his dashing 84 in the hosts’ 23-run win in the second T20 at Edgbaston. “It would have been nice to get two more games in to expose a few guys to different situations,” Buttler added. “But we have really good experience in the group and a lot of guys have been playing in the IPL (Indian Premier League), so we are not short of cricket.” Both England openers launched Naseem Shah for huge sixes before Salt holed out off Rauf for a quickfire 45. Earlier, Pakistan had been well-placed at 59-0 after losing the toss at an overcast Oval. But they slumped to 86-5, the collapse starting when captain Babar Azam was caught at slip for a brisk 36 off fast bowler Jofra Archer. “It went well for five or six overs but then I got out,” said Azam. “The middle order needs to step up.  “We need to sort out those things for the World Cup. We have a few injuries but there are a lot of positives. Our play is good in patches.” Pakistan were also undone by a disciplined England attack, with Rashid telling reporters: “As a unit I thought we bowled exceptionally well. I know they (Pakistan) got off to a great start, but that’s T20 cricket.” Rashid was also enthused by the sight of injury-prone quicks Archer and Mark Wood, who took wickets with sharp bouncers, bowling in tandem.  “Jof and Woody, when you watch them bowl it is exciting,” he said.  “Seeing the ball zip off the pitch, the keeper taking it really high and it’s exciting to have two quality, world-class bowlers in our squad.” England launch their T20 World Cup campaign against Scotland in Barbados on June 4, with 2009 champions Pakistan in action two days later against co-hosts the United States in Dallas. Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Says Strategy In Place For T20 World Cup, Urges Fans To Fully Back Team

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Says Strategy In Place For T20 World Cup, Urges Fans To Fully Back Team

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said that the team has a strategy in place for the T20 World Cup and appealed to supports and fans to back the team irrespective of whether it wins or loses matches. With two days left before the commencement of the tournament in the USA and the West Indies, Pakistan are gearing up for the marquee event. They are currently touring England for a four-match T20I series. Ahead of the 4th T20I to be played in London on Thursday, Naqvi made an appeal to the fans to support the team through the tournament. “Support the team and assure them that we [the fans] are with you [the team] whether you win or lose. I just want to request one thing which we really need for the next four weeks. Let us all support our players,” the PCB chairman told the media in London, according to Geo News. The first and the third T20I matches of the ongoing series were washed away due to rain without a ball being bowled. In the second T20I England took a 1-0 lead with skipper Jos Buttler’s 84-run blitz playing a pivotal role. Pakistan have tweaked their team combination during their series against Ireland and England. Unlike other teams, who have opted to bring in more spinners, Pakistan decided to name a pace-laden 15-player squad for the tournament. With the combination undergoing constant changes, Naqvi was asked about Pakistan’s combination for the World Cup. He affirmed that a strategy is in place and the players need to give their best on the field. “Overall, a strategy is in place that they don’t have to panic and give their best [on the field],” Naqvi noted. Pakistan are placed in Group A and will play their first match against the co-hosts USA on June 6 at the Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas. Pakistan Squad for T20 World Cup: Babar Azam (c), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Khan. ENG vs PAK 2nd T20I: Jos Buttler Helps England Take 1-0 Lead With Easy Win Over Pakistan

Have To Go With Whatever Preparation We Get: England Star Ahead of T20 WC

Tearaway pacer Mark Wood believes England have to make do with whatever games they have in hand in their preparation period for their Men’s T20 World Cup title defence, especially with them not playing any official warm-up games organised by the ICC. England’s two games against Pakistan at Headingley and Cardiff have been abandoned without a ball being bowled, while the other game saw them emerge victorious by 23 runs. They have the last game of their series against Pakistan at The Oval on Thursday, which has a rain threat. “Obviously, it’s not ideal when you schedule four games and we might only get one or two. A few of the lads are keen to get a run out at the Oval, so that will help. It will give confidence to everyone in the group.” “It was a good game the other day against Pakistan. They looked like they were pushing us really close and might have got there in the end if it wasn’t for such good bowling and shutting the game out from (Reece) Topley, (Chris) Jordan and (Jofra) Archer,” Wood was quoted as saying by Sky Sports Cricket. Post the end of the series, England will fly to Barbados for their T20 World Cup campaign opener against Group B opponents Scotland on June 4. “Yes, we have got experience, but warm-up games always give you a sense of different things you can tinker with. Who is in good form? Who needs to work on other things? Some lads have been playing at the IPL and they are match ready.” “Other lads haven’t, and the lads that haven’t, is there a freshness? You want the games to practise stuff, but it is a fine balance. One or two of us might feel like we need a game or two to get going, but there will be no excuses. It is coming around thick and fast. Whatever preparation we get, that is what we are going to have to go with,” added Wood. Returning fast-bowler Jofra Archer claimed two wickets at Edgbaston on his first international return for 14 months. “The mark of Jofra is that he is always in the game, always at people. There is always a chance of wickets and him changing the game.” “He bowled that difficult over — that sixth over is a tough one, it is the last over of the Powerplay where the batters are looking to score heavy, and I am sure he would have been nervous.” “He is a pretty cool guy, and as soon as he got that over out of the way he would have settled into the game. To bowl those next three overs for next to nothing shows a great deal of resilience, which is something he has had to show over the past few years,” elaborated Wood. He signed off by saying he was unaware about the idea of him partnering with Archer for the new-ball duties at the T20 World Cup. “I honestly have no idea. That’s a question for the management. But I have played with Jofra before, and I don’t see it like me or him. I don’t see why we can’t play together.” “We played together at the 2019 World Cup and things went pretty well. I don’t see why we can’t play in the same team, but maybe it is up to the management to manage our bodies and see how we get through the tournament.” (This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is auto-generated from a syndicated feed.) PCB Announces Massive Reward To Each Player If Pakistan Win T20 World Cup 2024 Trophy

Ex-Pakistan Star Shockingly Backs Michael Vaughan’s ‘IPL Better Than Playing Pakistan’ Dig

Pakistan cricket team is playing England in a T20I series currently.© AFP Former Pakistan cricket team star Kamran Akmal has expressed his agreement to former England captain Michael Vaughan’s “IPL is better than playing against Pakistan” comment. Vaughan made the comment in connection to the ongoing T20I series between Pakistan and England. He believed that England Cricket Board (ECB) should have allowed its players to play in the IPL instead of coming back for the Pakistan series as the former would have been better practice for the upcoming T20 World Cup. In a recent video, Akmal said that he agrees with Vaughan as Pakistan’s performance has been quite disappointing in the recent past and described the IPL as “tough and quality cricket”. “Over the past few days, I have wondered why a former England captain is commenting and taking Pakistan cricket non-seriously. It has been a painful thought, but I think he was correct in his assessment,” Akmal said on his YouTube channel. “Everybody knows the level of Pakistan cricket. We are losing against smaller teams like Ireland and in that sense Vaughan said that it is not a tough series. So the fault is ours. Had it been any other team like New Zealand, South Africa and India then Vaughan would not have said it,” he added. “We need to understand that in IPL, the best bowlers and batters are participating with crowds of 40 to 50,000. So it is tough cricket and quality cricket,” he explained. Akmal also said that Pakistan should use Vaughan’s comments as ‘motivation’ in the T20 World Cup. “The state of Pakistan cricket may be in need of a revamp, but this also presents an opportunity for growth. How do we respond to Vaughan’s critique? By showing our mettle in the upcoming T20 series against England. Let’s use this as a catalyst to regain our confidence and competitiveness, lest even teams like USA start to see us as an easy target.” “The Pakistan cricket Chairman is to blame for all of this as he has completely ruffled the system. For now it remains to be seen if Pakistan cricket team rises to the situation or keeps playing in the same zone as they have done till now,” he concluded. Topics mentioned in this article

"Chakkay Kyun Kha Rae Aap?": Female Fan's Bizarre Remark On Pakistan Star's Form Is Viral

“Chakkay Kyun Kha Rae Aap?”: Female Fan’s Bizarre Remark On Pakistan Star’s Form Is Viral

Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan’s form has been a point of concern for the team heading into the T20 World Cup in the Americas. In his last two T20I outings, Shadab has leaked 109 runs at an economy rate of over 12, while also remaining wicketless. Before their opening game of the tournament against USA on June 6, Pakistan only have one official game left to play as the first and third T20Is of their four-match series against England were washed out. On Tuesday, Shadab had an awkward interaction with a female fan in Cardiff. In a viral video, the fan questioned Shadab regarding his recent form. In the video, the female fan urged Shadab that he needs to take wickets and stop leaking runs.  “Aap chakkay kyun kha rahe hain? Form mein wapis aayein. Wicketein leni hai aapne (Why are you conceding sixes? Get your form back. You need to pick wickets),” a female fan can be seen asking Shadab in a viral video. “ap chakay kyun kha rahe hain form mein wapis ayein wicktein leni hain ap ne” so real pic.twitter.com/5DmS5kfXx3 — noor (@pctobssessed) May 28, 2024 Meanwhile, Pakistan’s World Cup preparations were again dented by bad weather as the third international in Cardiff on Tuesday was abandoned without a ball being bowled. The woeful scenes in the Welsh capital followed another complete washout in the first of this four-match T20 series at Headingley. England remain 1-0 up with one to play at The Oval on Thursday after a 23-run win in at Edgbaston but this latest abandonment came just a week before they begin their T20 World Cup title defence against Scotland in Barbados on June 4.  Rain in Cardiff on Tuesday started to fall steadily an hour before the scheduled 11:30 PM (IST) start, with a capacity 15,600 crowd expected at Sophia Gardens.  But the bad weather delayed the toss, with the pitch and square at Sophia Gardens remaining fully covered. And minutes after a 1:10 AM (IST) inspection, the umpires abandoned the match due to a saturated outfield and persistent rain. The teams will now travel to London for Thursday’s finale at The Oval in the hope of one last chance for competitive action ahead of the T20 World Cup.  Pakistan, the 2009 T20 World Cup winners, start this year’s tournament against co-hosts the United States in Dallas on June 6. Watch: ‘Aaap chhakke kyu kha rahe hain itne?’ Pakistan’s Shadab Khan goes mute to fan’s unexpected question | Cricket News

Pakistan‘s Shadab Khan found himself in an embarrassing situation when a fan first requested him for picture and then suddenly asked a question that the allrounder, who is primarily a leg-spinner, never expected. The video, presumably from England where Pakistan are currently playing a four-match T20I series, has gone viral on social media and shows a female fan posing for a picture with Shadab, almost waiting for her chance to ask the question that she eventually did. “Aaap chhakke kyu kha rahe hain itne (why are you getting hit for so many sixes)?” she asked Shadab out of nowhere, leaving the cricketer stunned, embarrassed and mute. But the lady didn’t stop there, and went on to add: “Form mei wapis aayein, perform karein. Wickets leni hain aapne (return to form, perform, you have to take wickets).” WATCH VIDEO The series, however, has been marred by bad weather, with the first and the third T20I getting abandoned. England won the second match by 23 runs. The fourth and last match will be played on Thursday at the Kennington Oval in London, after which both the teams will fly to the US for the T20 World Cup. The T20 World Cup will be co-hosted by USA and West Indies from June 2 to 29.
