Veteran Spinner Ignores India For T20 World Cup Final, Says It Will Be Pakistan vs…

Veteran Australian cricket team spinner Nathan Lyon ignored India while choosing the finalists for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 and said that he expects a summit clash between Australia and Pakistan. In a recent video, Lyon was asked to predict the two sides who may end up playing each other in the final of the competition and he said that his first choice is obviously Australia. He admitted that he was biased in the answer and added that he thinks Australia will face Pakistan. He picked Pakistan because he believes their spinners will have a good show in the tournament and he even namedropped star batter Babar Azam. “For the T20 finals team, Australia obviously because I’m quite biased towards them. I think it will be I’m going to go with Pakistan. In those conditions, quality spin bowlers, but also electric batters like Babar Azam,” said Lyon in a video shared by Prime Video Sports Australia. Lyon further predicted that this year’s tournament may see a team getting the highest total in T20I history and also backed Australia T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh to have a brilliant tournament. “I think early on in the tournament we may see the highest score in T20. I’m going to go, Mitchell Marsh, I think the power that he has with the bat but also the skill he has with the ball in hand as well. So, go well Mitch,” he added. India have 264 rating points. Two-time champions West Indies have moved up to fourth position, their players showing some great form ahead of the T20 showpiece. The winners of the 2012 and 2016 editions of the tournament are ahead of New Zealand and South Africa after their 3-0 win over South Africa, who were pushed down to seventh position in the list led by India. 2021 champions Australia are second with 257 points, defending champions England third with 254 points and the West Indies two points behind them on 252. Australia coach Andrew McDonald backs captain Mitchell Marsh to be fit ahead of T20 World Cup

Australia coach Andrew McDonald backs captain Mitchell Marsh to be fit ahead of T20 World Cup

Australia coach Andrew McDonald has backed captain Mitchell Marsh to be back to full fitness before the start of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Marsh was pulled out of the IPL early last month due to a hamstring rupture, and his recovery has been far slower than planned since returning from India. Marsh joined a cohort of Australia’s squad members, not engaged in the IPL, for the initial three-day pre-tournament training camp in Brisbane. Another such camp is scheduled over the next two weeks before the squad leaves for the Caribbean on May 25th. Initially, Marsh wasn’t slated to attend the first camp due to his hamstring injury. However, his recovery allowed him to participate and bat in the nets over the last couple of days. Nonetheless, McDonald reiterated that Marsh’s bowling fitness would only be nearing completion closer to the tournament. “You probably won’t see him bowl in the next couple of weeks here,” McDonald told reporters at Allan Border Field on Tuesday. “It’ll probably happen the week before we leave. And then he’ll be able to ramp that up when we’re over there. We’ll be able to cherry-pick the moments during the tournament where he’ll be useful with the ball. We’ve got some all-round depth in the squad, which gives us good coverage anyway. “[His recovery was] probably a little slower than expected on the back of the hamstring. But we’ve got plenty of time now that he has been ruled out the IPL. The first game is just short of a month away now. So ample time for him to get ready. But really positive to see the skipper on the park.” McDonald said there was no concern about Marsh’s lack of match practice over the last two months, given that Australia will play some practice games before their debut match against Oman. “No real concern about match fitness,” McDonald said. “We’ve got a couple of practice games when we get to Trinidad in the support period. So he’ll likely get plenty of match opportunities. And if not, we’ll be able to simulate those through practice, which our coaching staff are pretty good at.” Published By: Saurabh Kumar Published On: May 7, 2024

Mitchell Marsh Gives Update On His Recovery From Hamstring

Mitchell Marsh Gives Update On His Recovery From Hamstring

Australia’s new men’s T20I captain Mitchell Marsh said he hopes to get things right in the next three weeks to recover from hamstring injury and achieve full fitness to be ready in time for the World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, when Australia play their first game against Oman on June 6 in Barbados. Marsh has been out of action since April 3 clash for Delhi Capitals due to a right hamstring strain. He flew back home to Perth from IPL 2024 in India to begin his recovery, with Cricket Australia taking charge of it. Eventually, Marsh was ruled out of DC’s campaign, with them drafting Afghanistan all-rounder Gulbadin Naib as his replacement. “If we had to play tomorrow, I’d be in a bit of trouble. Still a couple of weeks away (from full fitness). The timing probably sits perfectly, barring no setbacks. I’ll be on the plane, ready to go.” “The hammy is good, it’s coming along really well. It’s pretty much exactly where we want it to be. It’s one of those things. Just got to get it right over the next three weeks and get on the plane,” said Marsh to reporters in Perth on Thursday. The 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup will be Marsh’s first full-time event as Australia’s skipper in the shortest format, after holding the position in an interim capacity. “Just really proud. It’s not every day you get to captain Australia and lead them to a World Cup. That’s very exciting. But I think one of the best things about our team is that there’s a lot of great leaders in our group.” “One of the biggest things I’ve learned is to not change too much. There’s a lot of preparation and planning that goes into a World Cup, and that’ll happen over the next month. But once we get there, it’s keeping everything nice and relaxed, keeping the environment good, and making sure we go out there and give it our all,” he added. Marsh also revealed he’s in constant communication with ODI and Test skipper Pat Cummins, who captained Australia to World Test Championship and ODI World Cup triumphs last year. For the T20 World Cup, Cummins will be playing under Marsh’s captaincy. “We’re always in communication as mates and, I guess, as leaders. But no real conversations around the cricket side of things, just always checking in on each other. We’re great mates so I’m looking forward to working with him over the next period of time.” Marsh signed off by backing the veteran David Warner to come good in Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign in what will also be his event as an international cricketer after retiring from Tests and ODIs earlier this year. Warner is currently recovering from a hand injury while batting in DC’s match against Lucknow Super Giants on April 12. Though he played in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 20, Warner has been out of action since then. “It’s been a long last hurrah, hasn’t it for Davey? We’re always really excited to have him in the team. Just the experience that he brings.” “I think if we look back at his career. There’s been so many big moments that you need your big experienced players to stand up and Davey has always been one of those. So we’re lucky to have him.” (Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed.) Topics mentioned in this article

‘The carrot’s there…’: Mitchell Marsh on leading Australia to an incredible treble | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Mitchell Marsh, who will lead Australia in their quest for an unprecedented treble of major global titles in the T20 World Cup in June, takes great pride in being the team’s captain. With the squad announced on Wednesday, Marsh was officially named captain, capping an incredible recovery for the reserved all-rounder since his recall in the Ashes last season.Leading the squad to series victories over New Zealand and the co-hosts of the Twenty20 World Cup, the West Indies, the 32-year-old has already proven to be a popular and effective captain. His easygoing style fits in well with an Australian team that has accomplished remarkable things since losing fiery head coach Justin Langer.Marsh claimed that his leadership will not significantly alter despite the selectors’ faith in him.“One of the biggest things I’ve learnt is to not change too much,” he told reporters on Wednesday.“Obviously, there’s a lot of preparation and planning that goes into a World Cup and that’ll happen over the next month.“But once we get there it’s (about) keeping everything nice and relaxed, keeping the environment good.”As a result of his outstanding performances in the Ashes and Australia’s sixth one-day World Cup victory in India last year, Marsh was awarded Australia’s highest cricket accolade in January-the Allan Border medal. With another victory in the United States and the Caribbean, Australia hopes to make history once more by becoming the first country to hold the worldwide T20, one-day, and Test championships simultaneously.Despite being lighthearted during the news conference on Wednesday, Marsh donned a somber captain’s hat in response to a question regarding the triple bid.“It’s not something we necessarily focus on as a group,” he said.“It would never have been done before so that will be special but there’s so many things you’ve got to get through at a World Cup before you can even get a crack at that.“That’s probably for the external noise … but I guess the carrot’s there.”(With Reuters inputs)

He has done well for the team in the most adverse conditions. He gets runs at a brisk pace thus the opposition is always under pressure when he is at the crease. Back him as top batter for Australia as Head is due for a big score. Nathan Lyon has been brilliant for Australia and bagged a 10 wicket haul in last game. Back him as top bowler.Kane Williamson will have to come good if New Zealand have to make a comeback into the series. Williamson scored three hundreds against South Africa so he is in great form. Also, Tim Southee will be keen to make an impact in his 100th Test. Back him as top bowler. The conditions will be helpful for bowlers thus scoring a hundred won’t be easy. We predict no hundreds to be scored in the match. New Zealand vs Australia TV channels: The fans can watch the match live on Hotstar Live Streaming: Live streaming of the match will be available on the FAFA191 Cricket Exchange India and website. NZ vs AUS 2nd Test Match Prediction & Betting Tips New Zealand will take on Australia in the 2nd and final Test on March 08. The match will be played at Hagley Oval, Christchurch and will start at 3:30 AM IST. New Zealand were no match to the mighty Australians in the first Test as they got hammered by the visitors by 172 runs. There weren’t many positives for New Zealand barring Glenn Phillips who scored 71 runs in the first innings and bagged a five wicket haul in Australia’s second innings. If New Zealand have to give a fight to the Aussies, the top order needs to score runs. Australia too have their fair share of batting woes. Cameron Green scored a magnificent 174 in the innings but other than him, there was no major contribution from other batters. Australia will be aware that batters need to put runs on the board to keep New Zealand at bay. If the batting falters again, Australia will give New Zealand a chance to make a comeback into the series. NZ vs AUS Match Toss PredictionCaptain winning the toss should bat first and put runs on the board. The conditions will stay the same for the first three days thus runs on board will help. NZ vs AUS Pitch ReportThe pitch will help the bowlers throughout the game. The new ball will swing and keep the batters on toes. On Day 4 and 5, spinners will come into play. Christchurch Weather ReportThe weather will be clear for the first two days but there is rain predicted on the final three days of the test match. NZ vs AUS 3rd T20 Match Prediction & Betting Tips New Zealand will take on Australia in the 3rd T20I of the three match series. The match will be played at the Eden Park, Auckland and will start at 5:30 AM IST on February 25. Australia picked up a comprehensive win over New Zealand in the second T20I to take a 2-0 lead in the series. Australia could only score 174 while batting first but they successfully defended the target and won the game by 72 runs after bowling out New Zealand for 102. The third T20I is a must win game for New Zealand. If they lose,  it will cost them the series as well.  The concern for New Zealand has been their batting. In the first game, Conway and Ravindra helped them post big score, however, since both players did not play the second game, the Kiwis barely managed to cross the 100 run mark. Seniors like Glenn Phillips, Will Young and Finn Allen will have to come good. NZ vs AUS Match Toss PredictionCaptain winning the toss should bowl first. It is a small ground and chasing teams have enjoyed more success here. NZ vs AUS Pitch ReportThe pitch will be flat and good for run scoring. It is a small venue and plenty of sixes are likely to be hit here. We could be in for another high scoring game in the series. Auckland Weather ReportThe weather is not very promising as there are over 55 per cent chances of rain on the match day. The temperature will range between 23 and 18 degrees. New Zealand vs Australia 2nd T20 Match Prediction & Betting Tips New Zealand will take on Australia in the 2nd T20I of the three match series. The match will be played at the Eden Park, Auckland and will start at 11:40 AM IST on February 23. Australia defeated New Zealand in the first T20I. Chasing a target of 215, Mitchell Marsh and Tim David helped the team pull off a remarkable win. Australia have been in remarkable form in shorter formats and defeated West Indies 2-1 in the preceding T20I series.  New Zealand, on the other hand, have also been in good form. The team defeated Pakistan 4-1 in the T20I series at home. This is the last series for both teams before the T20 World Cup in June and thus every game here stands of utmost importance.  New Zealand vs Australia Match Toss PredictionChasing teams have had an advantage here. In the last game, Australia chased a 200+ score. Even in the Pakistan series, 200+ scores was just about par. Given the brute power in both teams, captain winning the toss should chase. New Zealand vs Australia Pitch ReportThe pitch will be great for run scoring. The ball will come on nicely onto the bat and there should be little to no movement on offer from the surface. The spinners will also be under pressure due to small boundaries. Auckland Weather ReportIt will be an overcast day with humidity of 70 per cent and a 5 per cent chance of rain. The temperature will range between 23 to 16 degrees. Read on for team previews, betting tips, latest odds, and match prediction for New Zealand vs Australia 2nd T20 2024

Marcus Stoinis has five wickets already in this series and he is our tip for Australia’s top wicket taker in Perth.Rovman Powell has been striking the ball with exceptional power and good timing in the series and the West Indian skipper is our pick for their highest run scorer against Australia. Jason Holder has taken three wickets across the games in Hobart and Adelaide and the bowling all-rounder is a strong choice for West Indies’ top wicket taker on Tuesday. With five centuries from his last nine international innings, we recommend selecting Glenn Maxwell to hit over 31.5 runs in this game. AUS vs WI 3rd T20 Match Prediction & Betting Tips Australia wrapped up a series win over West Indies at the earliest opportunity with a 34 runs win at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday evening. That means the score is now at 2-0, with the hosts also winning in Hobart, ahead of this final day-night T20I of the series at the Perth Stadium on Tuesday 13th February. Read on as we preview this game which begins at 16:00 local time in Perth. Australia continued their dominance over West Indies and very strong home form with a convincing victory in Adelaide on Sunday and they now look set to add a 3-0 T20I series win to the 3-0 ODI win over the men from the Caribbean from earlier in the month. After series wins over South Africa, India and England, West Indies will be disappointed to have already lost this T20 series. However, their batting has been impressive and some tighter bowling could give them a consolation victory in Perth. AUS vs WI Match Toss PredictionFour of the last five T20Is at the Perth Stadium have been won by the team chasing in the second innings so we predict that both captains will choose to field first ahead of this match. AUS vs WI Pitch ReportThere will be good pace and bounce on this pitch in Western Australia. We can expect a par score of approaching 185-190 in this match. Perth Weather ReportAccording to the forecast, this will be a very warm and pleasant evening in Perth. The temperature will fall from 33 degrees to 28 degrees across the contest.
