Zampa accomplished this milestone during his side’s ICC T20 World Cup clash against Namibia at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. In the game, Zampa delivered a destructive spell of 4/12 in four overs at an economy rate of 3.00 that caused the Namibian side to fall apart. His scalps included the star all-rounder David Wiese. Now in 17 matches, Zampa has taken 31 wickets at an average of 11.93 and an economy rate of 5.96, with the best bowling figures of 5/19. He has surpassed Starc, who has taken 29 wickets in 22 matches at an average of 24.72, with the best figures of 3/20 and an economy rate of 8.43. The top three leading wicket-takers in T20 WC history are: Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan (47 wickets in 38 matches), former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi (39 wickets in 34 matches) and former Sri Lankan pace legend Lasith Malinga (38 wickets in 31 games). Zampa on June 12 also became the first Australian to take 100 wickets in T20Is. Now in 83 games, he has 100 wickets at an average of 21.46 and an economy rate of 7.20, with the best figures of 5/19. Zampa also secured his fifth ‘Player of the Match’ award in his T20 WC career, tying with stars like Chris Gayle (West Indies), Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) and Shane Watson (Australia) for clinching the honour second-highest amount of times. Indian batting icon Virat Kohli has the highest ‘Player of the Match’ award wins in the tournament history, with seven. Coming to the match, Australia won the toss and put Namibia to bat first. Except for skipper Gerhard Erasmus (36 in 43 balls, with four boundaries and a six), no other batter made an impact and Namibia was skittled out for just 72 runs in 17 overs. Zampa (4/12) was the top wicket-taker for Australia. Josh Hazlewood (2/18) and Marcus Stoinis (2/9) also did fine with the ball. Pat Cummins and Nathan Ellis got a wicket each. In the run-chase, Australia chased down the total in just 5.4 overs, with Travis Head (34* in 17 balls, with five fours and two sixes) and David Warner (20 in eight balls with three fours and a six) and skipper Marsh (18* in nine balls, with three fours and a six) playing destructive knocks. Zampa became the ‘Player of the Match’ for his marvellous spell. In Group B, Australia is at the top with three wins in three matches, giving them six points. Namibia is in the third spot with a win and two losses, giving them two points.

Image Source : AP Adam Zampa. Australia’s premier leg-spinner Adam Zampa has hit his stride in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as he continues to showcase the reason why the Aussies rate him so highly in the white-ball formats. The right-arm leg-spinner bagged another four-wicket haul – the fourth one of his T20I career against Namibia to take Australia into the Super Eight stage of the marquee tournament. Zampa bagged figures of 4/12 in his four-over spell and reduced Namibia’s batting order to dust. Nambia failed to counter Zampa and got bowled out for 72 in just 17 overs before the Australian top-order comprising David Warner (20 runs off eight balls), Travis Head (34* off 17 balls) and Mitchell Marsh (18* off nine balls) made light work of the run chase. Notably, Zampa’s match-winning spell helped him become the first Australian player in history to claim 100 wickets in T20Is. The 32-year-old is already the leading wicket-taker for the Aussies in the format and the latest milestone has added another feather in his cap. The New South Wales-born was happy to contribute to the team’s success against Namibia but added that the job is far from over. “To get the win tonight and qualify for the Super Eights, that is a nice feeling. (On his bowling rhythm) Yes and no. I bowled a couple of pies tonight but in general, the ball feels like it is coming out well. Being encouraged to pick up wickets in the middle, particularly by the captain. (Bowling with the breeze) We experienced that in Barbados as well. We know on these wickets that is a challenge. We are happy, it is the first step in trying to take the trophy home but a long way to go (still),” said Zampa while collecting his Player of the Match award during the post-match presentation.

Josh Hazlewood (2/18) removed the Namibian openers Michael Van Lingen and Niko Davin before leg-spinner Adam Zampa (4/12) got into the act to run through Namibia, who ended with their lowest total in T20 Internationals. Australia steamroll Namibia to qualify for Super 8 stage of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 – India TV

Image Source : AP Australia vs Namibia. Another spectacular bowling performance by Adam Zampa helped Australia steamroll Namibia in the 24th match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to qualify for the Super Eight stage of the tournament. Zampa bagged figures of 4/12 in his four-over spell and helped the Aussies reduce Namibia to just 72 before the Aussie batters made light work of the chase. The game was all about Zampa, who bagged the Player of the Match (POTM) honour for his phenomenal spell of spin bowling. Zampa, 32, bagged the wickets of Zane Green, David Wiese, Ruben Trumplemann and Bernard Scholtz to claim yet another four-wicket haul of his T20I career and also became the first Australian player to snare 100 scalps in T20I cricket. His mesmerising spin-bowling effort was too hot to handle for Namibia and they looked like a rabbit in headlights. Barring their skipper Gerhard Erasmus (36 off 43 balls) and opener Michael van Lingen (10 off as many deliveries), none of the other batters held the fort for the team. Namibia got bowled out for 72 in 17 overs and ended up registering their lowest total in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Their previous lowest was 96 which came against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi during the 2021 edition of the marquee tournament. In reply, David Warner led the charge with the bat for the Kangaroos. The southpaw scored 20 off just eight deliveries at a strike rate of 250.00, including three fours and a maximum. His departure in the second over brought Mitchell Marsh to the crease and the Aussie skipper paired up with Travis Head to take his team home by nine wickets. Marsh seemed fairly pleased by the performance and expressed happiness about Australia’s qualification into the Super Eight. “I thought it was a great performance from our bowling team. It was a beautiful wicket, a bit of swing out there. A professional performance. Great to qualify for the Super Eight,” Marsh said during the post-match presentation.

T20 World Cup: Selector, head coach take field for nine-man Australia in warm-up match against Namibia

Australia won the game by seven wickets with impressive performances from David Warner (54 not out off 21 balls), fit again Josh Hazlewood (2/5) and leg-spinner Adam Zampa (3/25). They chased down Namibia’s 119 with 10 overs to spare. With the likes of Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Mitchell Starc, Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell given extra time at home following the two-month long IPL, chief selector and former captain George Bailey and head coach Andrew McDonald were among the support staff who were forced to take the field. 46-year-old fielding coach Andre Borovec also took the field alongside Bailey when skipper Mitchell Marsh opted to bowl against Namibia. When Marsh and Hazlewood went back to the dressing room, McDonald and 49-year-old batting coach Brad Hodge had to step on the field. Hazlewood, playing hist first game in three months, looked in good rhythm. “Obviously, we didn’t have a full quota of players but the guys who played, probably a few of us needed to coming off a big layoff,” Hazlewood told cricket.com.au after the game on Tuesday. “I know a number of the bowlers were coming off a long break which is pretty unusual in our system, but it’s good to get out there, playing is always different to training. “The wicket looked a little bit tough early, a little bit slow, which is probably what we’re going to encounter here in the West Indies. “So a nice hit out, got the result and we move onto the West Indies in a few days.” Australia Test and ODI skipper Cummins, Head and Starc were part of the IPL final played in Chennai on Sunday.
