Canada stun Ireland for first T20 World Cup win

Canada won their first-ever Twenty20 World Cup match with a stunning 12-run victory against Ireland in New York on Friday. Canada stun Ireland for first T20 World Cup win Defending a target of just 138, the non-Test nation bowled and fielded expertly to hold Ireland to 125-7 from their full 20 overs. 3.6 Crore Indians visited in a single day choosing us as India’s undisputed platform for General Election Results. Explore the latest updates here! From 26-0, Ireland lost six wickets for 33 runs as they slumped to 59-6, with Andrew Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker the only top-order batsmen to reach double figures. George Dockrell and Mark Adair revived Irish hopes during a partnership of 62 in seven overs. The seventh-wicket duo reduced the target to 17 off the last six balls. But Canada paceman Jeremy Gordon held his nerve superbly, conceding just three runs and dismissing Adair with the second ball of the 20th over off a skyed caught and bowled chance. The 37-year-old Guyana-born Gordon finished with fine figures of 2-16 from his maximum four overs as Canada, the lowest-ranked team in the tournament, enjoyed their best day in international cricket since defeating Bangladesh at the 2003 50-over World Cup. Victory meant Canada bounced back from an opening defeat by fellow non-Test nation the United States, with the co-hosts then blowing Group A wide open thanks to a superb Super Over win against Pakistan in Dallas on Thursday. But Ireland’s second successive loss at the tournament, following an eight-wicket defeat by India, left them facing an early exit. Canada themselves slumped to 53-4 on Friday after losing the toss before a key stand of 75 in 10 overs between Barbados-born left-hander Nicholas Kirton and Shreyas Movva helped take them to a total of 137-7. Pitches at the specially built ground in Long Island have been criticised for their uneven bounce but Friday’s strip was notably more placid. The biggest issue for batsmen was a slow outfield that denied them full value for their shots still a worry ahead of Sunday’s showpiece match at the venue between arch-rivals India and Pakistan. – ‘Strength to strength’ – Kirton, however, still hit 16 off one Craig Young over, a return helped by two straight sixes, before his 35-ball innings ended when he gloved Barry McCarthy to short fine leg. “It wasn’t so bad, bar the middle of the wicket, a pretty good wicket to bat on to be honest,” said Kirton, the player of the match. The 26-year-old added: “The partnership was very important, it got us over the line. “It’s very good to get our first win in the World Cup, hopefully we can continue from strength to strength. Out next focus is Pakistan, have a rest day tomorrow and get back in the nets.” For an Ireland side more used to causing shocks at International Cricket Council events than being on the receiving end, it was a bitter reversal of fortune. “We were off in all three facets today and that wasn’t good enough,” said Ireland captain Paul Stirling. “Hopefully we can show a better game when we go to Miami next week .” bur-jdg/ea This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.

However, the Dane used his reach and tired out Sen with long rallies to level the scores at 16-16. The two players fought tooth and nail till 22 points before the Indian faltered to hand the first game to his opponent. The second game was equally intense, with both Sen and Antonsen playing their hearts out until 18 points. Mitchell Starc continued his strong form from the IPL with 2/20 in Match 10. The left-arm pace bowler is well worth selecting for Australiaโ€™s top wicket taker against England.Jos Buttler has hit 11979 runs across his international career and the skipper is our pick for Englandโ€™s highest run scorer in this game. Mark Wood looked refreshed and bowled quick against Scotland on Tuesday. Australia vs England Match Prediction & Betting Tips, T20 World Cup 2024 Two old rivals meet again on Saturday afternoon in Bridgetown, Barbados as Australia take on England in Match 17 of Group B. Australia came through a couple of tough moments to beat Oman by 39 runs on Wednesday whereas Englandโ€™s match with Scotland ended as a no-result on Tuesday. Read on as we preview this match. The game begins at 13:00 local time on Saturday June 8th. Strong batting from David Warner and Marcus Stoinis were crucial in the win over Oman but there is also a lot more to come from this Australian side, particularly with the bat. The Aussies will be motivated to beat the holders in this match and they have a very strong group of players. After their opening game against Scotland fell victim to the weather, England can not afford to go two games without a win as the other nations will start to believe that they can claim second place. However, England players often save their best for T20I clashes against Australia. Australia vs England Match Toss PredictionHere at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, we have seen Australia win when batting first and Scotland win when fielding first in this tournament so far. We expect both sides to want to post a target and to bat first in this match if they win the toss. Australia vs England Pitch ReportIt was the pace bowlers who had the most joy on this pitch on Thursday evening but there are some top spinners in this game who will still get turn from the surface. Whoever bats first will want to post a total of at least 185-195 if they want to be competitive. Barbados Weather ReportIt will be another warm evening in Barbados on Saturday evening and although it will be humid, we expect the rain to stay away. Clouds will build a little as the game progresses but wonโ€™t really affect the temperature which will be above 28. He is a match winner for his side and we are backing him to be Afghanistanโ€™s top batter. New Zealand batters could be found wanting against the spinners and Afghanistan have an ace in Rashid Khan, who is our pick for top bowler.Kane Williamson is New Zealand most technically sound batter and the Kiwis will rest a lot of hopes on their captain. Back him as New Zealand top batter. Trent Boult with the new ball will be vital and could pick multiple wickets as the ball does swing for the first few overs. Boult can be a great pick for top New Zealand bowler.Afghanistan batting will be tested against New Zealand and they are likely to lose a lot of wickets. Back Afghanistan to lose more than six wickets while batting. New Zealand vs Afghanistan Match Prediction & Betting Tips, T20 World Cup 2024 New Zealand will take on Afghanistan in the 14th game of the T20 World Cup 2024. The game will be played at the Providence Stadium, Guyana and will start at 5:00 AM IST on June 8 New Zealand have been one of the most consistent teams in ICC events. Even though the team is yet to a win an ICC tournament, they have reached the top 4 consistently. New Zealand are being deemed as one of the favourites for the title in this current addition too and would eye a winning start.  Meanwhile, Afghanistan might be below New Zealand in terms of rankings but the team is well capable to beat them on their day. Afghanistan were brilliant in the first game against Ugada and picked a massive win by 125 runs. On paper, New Zealand have a better team but they are likely to face a strong challenge by Afghanistan spinners and how they cope up will probably decide the outcome of the match. New Zealand vs Afghanistan Match Toss PredictionChasing teams have enjoyed more success in the T20 World Cup thus both captains will be keen to chase. New Zealand vs Afghanistan Pitch ReportThis is not an easy wicket to bat. The new ball has done a bit while the slow nature of the surface has made spinners look very threatening. Any score of 150-160 can be very challenging to chase. Guyana Weather ReportThere is rain predicted on the match day. The chances of precipitation stand at 80 percent so a curtailed game cannot be ruled out. Skipper Wanindu Hasaranga has the ability to cause problems on any pitch and the spinner is a strong choice for Sri Lankaโ€™s top wicket taker in this game.Soumya Sarkar has impressed at international level across the last six months and he is our pick for Bangladeshโ€™s highest run scorer in this match. Mustafizur Rahman took 6/10 in the third T20I against USA and he is well worth backing as Bangladeshโ€™s top wicket taker against Sri Lanka. With a strike-rate of 13.5 in T20Is, we recommend selecting Wanindu Hasaranga to take over 1.5 wickets in this match. Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh TV channels: The fans can watch the match live on Hotstar Live Streaming: Live streaming of the match will be available on the FAFA191 Cricket Exchange India and website. Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Match Prediction & Betting Tips, T20 World Cup 2024 Match 15 of the 2024 T20 World Cup sees Sri Lanka take on Bangladesh on Friday evening in Dallas, Texas. Sri Lanka were bowled out for their lowest T20I total against South Africa and lost by 6 wickets with 22 balls remaining in Match 4. For Bangladesh, this is their first game of the tournament. The match gets underway at the Grand Prairie Stadium at 20:30 local time on June 7th. Although it was a very tough opening fixture and they did not do themselves justice with the bat, there have been plenty of neutral observers who think Sri Lanka had a very hard job batting first on that pitch in New York. They will be looking to start again and put that game behind them in this match. After losing the series to USA, plenty of pundits wrote off Bangladeshโ€™s chances straight away for this tournament. However, they have some excellent stroke-players in their batting order and if Mustafizur Rahman can bowl at his best then he can be unplayable. Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Match Toss PredictionThe first two matches at the Grand Prairie Stadium in this tournament were won by the team batting second and once again in the third match, USA won after a Super Over but also fielded first. We predict that both captains will want to field first in this game. Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Pitch ReportThe pitch is a little two-paced in Dallas but there will still be plenty of opportunities for six-hitting for batters who are in good form. Spinners are unlikely to get much turn from the surface at the Grand Prairie Stadium and a par score will be around 175-180. Dallas Weather ReportAccording to the weather forecast, it will be hot throughout this contest on Friday evening in Dallas. The temperature will be at 30 degrees at the start of the game before dropping to 28 later on and there is no chance of rain interrupting. T20 World Cup: Pakistan didn't play well in all three departments, says Babar Azam | Cricket News

T20 World Cup: Pakistan didn’t play well in all three departments, says Babar Azam | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: In their T20 World Cup opening match in Dallas on Thursday, Pakistan lost to the USA in the Super Over. Captain Babar Azam later acknowledged that his team did not play at its best in all three areas of the game.Pakistan had a difficult start, losing three wickets in the powerplay to finish at 30 for 3. The innings was then stabilized by a 72-run partnership off 48 balls between Babar Azam and Shadab Khan.In spite of their best efforts, the USA held Pakistan to 159/7 before matching the total and winning the Super Over to cause a significant upset.T20 WORLD CUP: SCHEDULE | POINTS TABLEBabar said that Pakistan was unsatisfactory with their batting towards the end of the match, having failed miserably in the Powerplay and bowling slowly in the middle overs. Then, in the middle overs, they failed to take wickets with spin because they did not carry out their early plans to bowl quickly.“To be honest, whenever you lose a game, you are always upset. We did not play well in all three departments. For six overs, I think we did not capitalise properly, but later on, after the 10th over we got momentum, but again we lost too many wickets and then your momentum is gone. So, I think as a batting unit we need to step it up in the middle and in the end,” Babar said after the match. After losing three wickets in the Powerplay, Babar helped his team recover by scoring 44 from 43 balls. He acknowledged that the game changed when Pakistan lost consecutive wickets.“The first six overs, the ball was holding and was swinging. But later on, I didn’t feel it was a different wicket. It settled down a bit. Because of the early start – the matches are starting at 10.30 am – the fast bowlers will get a little help. There was some juice in the pitch early morning. So, they utilised that and executed their plan. It was difficult in the beginning, but we covered it.“I think when we lost the wickets back-to-back, that was the turning point. But as a professional, you have to step up against such a team in the batting… in the middle order. This condition is not an excuse…they played well, but I think we played badly,” he added.Mohammad Amir conceded eighteen runs in the Super Over, which the USA won with a boundary off the last ball of the normal overs. Pakistan lost several unnecessary extras due to wides and a series of overthrows. The Pakistan captain credited USA’s batters Aaron Jones and Harmeet Singh for their aggressive running between the wickets. “He (Amir) is an experienced bowler, he knows how to bowl and we are just trying to field the ball. But I think the US batsmen were a bit smart, when the ball was coming to the keeper he was running. So, I think that was a plus point for the batters in the Super Over.”Pakistan will next take on bitter rivals India on Sunday in New York. Babar also stated that even though they lost to the United States, they would not be changing their ball-based death-over tactics for that crucial encounter.“The plan is simple: We try to hit yorkers and we are not changing any plans because the ball is reversing and our bowlers are very accurate, so our play will not be any different,” he concluded.(With IANS inputs)

There is a lot of experience, lot of honesty within our bowling core group: Hardik Pandya

Indian cricket team player Hardik Pandya during a training session for the T20 World Cup in New York. File | Photo Credit: PTI Star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has reposed a lot of hope on the Jasprit Bumrah-led bowing unit to deliver for the team in the T20 World Cup here thanks to their experience, intensity and honesty within the core group. India on Wednesday started their campaign with an eight-wicket victory over Ireland on a drop-in pitch that offered variable bounce and extra seam movement. “We were told today that within the group we have 892 T20 games, that’s a lot of games. “So we have a lot of experience, especially in bowling where we have someone like Jasprit Bumrah, who is the number one bowler by far. We have (Mohammed) Siraj, who has been tremendous in recent years,” Hardik said during a chat with the BCCI.TV. “We have Arshdeep, who has played the last two World Cups and has been quite fantastic and making sure that he keeps getting better. “There is a lot of experience, lot of honesty within the bowling core group, and the wicket has also helped a lot today (Wednesday),” he added. The seam-bowling all-rounder said the team was very pleased to start the tournament on a positive note. “We are very happy and very pleased to the kind of start on a good note. It’s very, very important for the rhythm because once the tournament has started, it goes on,” Hardik said. “It feels very good when you work hard and kind of get some success, and at the same point of time, it’s quite exciting to play here (in America).” After the match, the team’s batting coach Vikram Rathour said Hardik was ready to bowl four overs in a match, and the 30-year-old all-rounder, who was dogged by chronic injuries in the not-too-distant past, said he was focussed on the job at hand. “Everything falls into place for people who work hard. And go and spend a lot of time within yourself, identify who you are, back yourself because you know, Hardik at 30 is a much easier job at Hardik at 60,” he said. “From those days, these days are much, much better, try to find out what exactly are you are trying to figure it out in your skill sets especially. That’s why I just went, bowled a lot of overs, batted a lot of balls, so in that scenario you realise your potential slowly, and that was my focus,” Hardik said. He was looking forward to India’s big-ticket game against Pakistan on Sunday. “India-Pakistan has always been very exciting, lot of cheer and buzz, a lot of emotion and a lot of excitement but at the same time, I hope we will be disciplined in that game, one goal as a group is we go and kind of hunt. “So, if we can do that, I think it will be a one more nice day for us,” Hardik said.

The T20 World Cup 2024 is played in the United States of America for the first time. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has tried to promote the game in the US market for the last few years in its bid to make cricket a truly global sport. The ICC staff has been very hands-on in the tournament, trying to make the sport fun for the fans. One of the ICC staffers in the T20 World Cup even tried to teach the legendary Dale Styen how to bowl. Steyn, who has 699 runs in his international career, is considered as one of the greatest bowlers of all time. The South African fast bowler was well known for his fiery attitude during his playing days. In fact players like India captain Rohit Sharma consider Steyn as the toughest bowler that he has faced in his career. Steyn, in a hilarious video on his Instagram, captured the moments when the ICC staff was trying to teach him how to bowl with the white ball. Steyn posted the video on his Instagram story and captioned it as educational. T20 World Cup: Full Coverage | Complete Schedule T20 World Cup 2024 The T20 World Cup has started amid a low buzz in the United States of America and West Indies. While some matches have been marred by rain, questions have been raised on the quality of the pitches as well. On June 5, the fans were outraged about the cricket prices in the T20 World Cup after several premium stands were left vacant in India’s T20 World Cup opener against Ireland. Tickets for India’s first match against Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2024 started around $150. The premium VIP club seats were released for just over $1,000. These prices were nothing compared to the ones in India vs Pakistan. The lowest ticket released for the marquee clash was $300. The most expensive tickets on sale at the moment range from $2500 – $10,000. The prices ($2500-$10,000) translate roughly to Rs 2 lakh – Rs 8.34 lakh rupees, which are incredibly high in comparison to the prices seen in the rest of the tournaments. For context, the tickets for India vs Pakistan match in the ODI World Cup 2023 started at Rs 500. Published By: Kingshuk Kusari Published On: Jun 6, 2024
