Rohit Sharma hopes for quick acclimatisation of New York pitch ahead of Twenty20 World Cup

Captain Rohit Sharma is seen during a training session for the Twenty20 World Cup in New York. | Photo Credit: PTI Marvelling at the newly-constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, India skipper Rohit Sharma underlined the need for his team to get acclimatised to the pitch and conditions quickly ahead of their T20 World Cup opener against Ireland on June 5. However, Rohit and company will get a chance to check the nature of the pitch and overall conditions when they face Bangladesh in a warm-up match in New York on June 1. It’s also India’s lone training game ahead of the ICC marquee event. The warm-up match is important from India’s perspective because their matches will start at 10.30 AM local time and the players need to get used to day-time matches after playing under lights in the IPL for the last two months. “We’re looking to understand the conditions more importantly (before the tournament proper) as we haven’t been here before,” Rohit told ICC. ICC Twenty20 World Cup 2024: Full schedule, venues and complete squads The Mumbaikar emphasised the need for his side to get into a “rhythm” before the real action starts, and he wanted to use this side game as a springboard. “(We will) try and make the most of the conditions, get used to what it’s going to be like on June 5 when we play our first game,” he added. The challenge for the Indians will be to adapt to the drop-in turf here, something they don’t come across very often in international cricket. “It’s just about getting into that rhythm of getting the feel of the ground, pitch and stuff like that,” he said. Rohit was part of the first batch of India cricketers to arrive here on May 26, along with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel. Moving beyond the match routines, Rohit also found time to take in the beauty of the venue. “It looks beautiful. It’s quite an open ground. When we come here and play our first game, I just can’t wait to feel the atmosphere in the stadium,” he said. “It’s a decent capacity as well. Hopefully it’s gonna be a good one.” Rohit hoped that fans will throng the venue for their matches. “People in New York will be very interested in coming and watching the World Cup, as it is happening for the first time here. “I’m pretty sure all the fans across various teams are quite excited and looking forward to this tournament. And also as players (we) can’t wait to get started,” he noted. Worry for Bangladesh Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto too appreciated the excellent construction here, but he would not have forgotten Bangladesh’s shocking series defeat against the USA a few days back. The United States, largely constituted by expat players, scored a stunning 2-1 win over Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series at home last week, signalling that they are no mere pushovers. Hence, Shanto might be hoping for a quick turnaround against formidable India, even though it’s a warm-up match at this scenic stadium. “To be very honest I wasn’t expecting anything like this but we all followed on social media how the wicket looks like, how the ground would be, and we are very excited as to what is going to happen here,” said Shanto. The 25-year-old top-order batter then gushed over the venue. “It’s unbelievable. I think it’s crazy. I mean we all saw on the internet there was nothing (three months ago). Now, it looks like a proper stadium and feels great,” he said. The Eastern grandstand (in particular), I didn’t expect it to be like this,” he added.

On a good batting strip at the Adelaide Oval, the Renegades put up 178-8 on the board. That didn’t prove to be enough as the Sixers romped home with one over to spare. Weather Conditions The Allan Border Field offers an ideal T20 surface, with help for both batters and bowlers. There is enough bounce, carry, and movement here for seamers to be interested all the time. Batters will also enjoy the bounce and pace here, as it allows them to cut and play their strokes freely.  BHW vs MRW Pitch Report The average first innings score at the Allan Border Field is 138. Meanwhile, Mumbai have suddenly picked up the winning momentum and have won two games on the trot. They are seventh on the points table with two wins in five games. Their net run rate (NRR) (-0.073) needs to improve as well.  The five-time champions will be taking on the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the El Classico on Sunday (April 14) at the Wankhede Stadium. IPL-17 | Impact Player rule changes things a fair bit, says Mitchell Starc

IPL-17 | Impact Player rule changes things a fair bit, says Mitchell Starc

Kolkata Knight Riders’ fast bowler Mitchell Starc celebrates during the match against Mumbai Indians in Mumbai on May 3, 2024. | Photo Credit: Emmanual Yogini Every time Mitchell Starc runs in donning the Kolkata Knight Riders’ purple this season, more than his craft, it’s the mind-boggling bid of ₹24.75 crore that is discussed. Add to it the lanky left-arm pacer’s subdued first half of the IPL season and the term “price-tag pressure” was being hurled more frequently than Starc’s accuracy with his lethal yorkers. On Friday night, at the Wankhede Stadium, however, Starc found his mojo. Not only did he get rid of Ishan Kishan with a trademark inswinging yorker that crashed into the leg-stump but the left-armer wound up the game with three more scalps. The four-wicket spell — only his second such instance in IPL – truly marked his return to the IPL since 2015. Having conceded nearly two runs a ball this season, Starc did not hesitate in spelling out the challenges for bowlers due to Impact Player rule. “The Impact Player rule changes things a fair bit. Everyone gets to bat a lot deeper having a batting and a bowling XI. There’s a lot made of that rule throughout the tournament and there’s been a lot of high scores. “That impact player rule has had a fair part to play, when you gonna have batters and batting all-rounders come in at 8 or 9, it’s a long batting line-up,” Starc said. “There’s no fear in the PowerPlay when all you have do is to clear the infield and score runs. Certainly there has been some really good batting, it’s not just the rules that play a part there. “On the flip-side, time tell, we have got the World Cup coming next month, there’s no Impact Player rule, so whether that affects the scores is yet to be seen.” Has he succumbed under the price-tag pressure? “I didn’t set my price tag, so it is what it is,” he said.

London [UK], : Fine bowling spells by pacer Mark Wood and spinner Adil Rashid combined with some ferocious hitting by openers Phil Salt and Jos Buttler helped England secure a series victory after a seven-wicket win over Pakistan in the fourth and final T20I at London on Thursday night. All-round England crush Pakistan by seven wickets in fourth T20I, secure T20I series 2-0 With this win, England has taken the four-match series 2-0. Download Now! Electing to field first, England bowlers had to witness some fine hitting from the opening duo of skipper Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan, who teamed up after a long while. Pakistan reached the 50-run mark in just 5.3 overs. However, at the last ball of the powerplay, this partnership met its end. Skipper Babar was caught by Rashid at short third man on a delivery by Jofra Archer for 36 in 22 balls, with five fours and a six. Pakistan was 59/1 in six overs. Following that, England spinners Rashid and Moeen Ali were all over Pakistani batting, taking some quick wickets. Pakistan sank to 86/5 in 10.2 overs. Rashid showcased his class with the ball, unleashing a spin web Pakistan could not get out of, taking wickets of Rizwan and Shadab Khan . Wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan was also removed for a duck to a scorching bouncer from Mark Wood, as the ball hit his glove and went into the hands of Buttler. However, Usman Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed provided a bit of stability to Pakistan, helping them cross the 100-run mark in 11.5 overs. Usman’s promising inning was cut short at 38 in 21 balls by Liam Livingstone, with Chris Jordan taking a fine catch. His knock had three fours and two sixes. Pakistan was 126/6 in 14.3 overs. The lower order did not put up much of a fight and Pakistan was skittled out for 157 runs in 19.5 overs. Rashid , and Livingstone were the top bowlers for England. Mark Wood got 2/35 in his four overs. Archer, Jordan and Moeen got one wicket each. In the run-chase, England openers Salt and Buttler unleashed such carnage that half the total was chased down within the six overs of powerplay. Young pacer Naseem Shah faced the worst beating out of all pacers, going for 33 runs in his two overs, including a 25-run fifth over where Buttler hit him for three fours and a six within a space of four balls after Salt started the over by punishing an off-cutter through deep mid-wicket for a six. In six overs, England was 78/0. Haris Rauf’s pace earned Pakistan a breakthrough as he removed Salt for 45 in 24 balls, with six fours and two sixes. England was 82/1 in 6.2 overs. England reached the 100-run mark in 8.5 overs, not compromising on their hitting. However, skipper Buttler was next to go, with Rauf getting his second scalp and wicketkeeper Azam getting the catch. The England skipper made 39 in 21 balls, with seven fours and a six. England was 101/2 in nine overs. Rauf cleaned up Will Jacks next, who played a nice cameo of 20 in 18 balls, with a four and six. England was 112/3 in 11 overs. The pair of Jonny Bairstow and Harry Brook did not waste much time, ending the chase at 158/3 in 15.3 overs. Rauf delivered a fine spell for Pakistan but it was not enough. Adil Rashid took home the ‘Player of the Match’ honours for his spell.
