First Time In Indian Cricket History: Arshdeep Singh Achieves Monumental Feats At T20 World Cup 2024

First Time In Indian Cricket History: Arshdeep Singh Achieves Monumental Feats At T20 World Cup 2024

T20 World Cup 2024: Arshdeep Singh picked up a wicket off the very first ball vs USA.© AFP Arshdeep Singh set two records in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 game against USA. The left-arm seamer now has the record of the best bowling figures in a T20 World Cup game by an Indian by finishing with figures of 4-0-9-4. He beat Ravichandran Ashwin’s previous best of 4-11 in 3.2 overs against Australia in the 2014 edition. He thus became the first Indian bowler to take four wickets in a T20 World Cup game by giving less than 10 runs. Arshdeep also became the first Indian bowler to pick up a wicket on the very first ball of a T20 World Cup match, as he dismissed USA batsman Shayan Jahangir. Arshdeep Singh hardly took his foot off the pedal enjoying career-best figures of 4/9 as India restricted co-hosts United States of America to a manageable 110 for 8 in a Group ‘A’ encounter of the T20 World Cup on Wednesday. After a couple of gallant batting performances in their back-to-back victories, the USA batters found Indian pace attack a few notches above in terms of class and quality. There was hardly a phase of play when the hosts would have felt the noose being loosened around their necks. However, after scoring 42 in the first 10, USA with useful contributions from Nitish Kumar (27), Steven Taylor (24) and former New Zealand international Corey Anderson (15) added another 68 in the back-10. Once Arshdeep got a couple of breakthroughs in the opening over including a first-ball wicket of Shayan Jahangir, there was no looking back for the Indians. They never had a slip up in terms of intensity, mixing up fuller deliveries with ones that were pitched on back of length. With PTI inputs Topics mentioned in this article

‘Still two trophies behind MI and CSK’: Gautam Gambhir aims higher after IPL 2024 win

‘Still two trophies behind MI and CSK’: Gautam Gambhir aims higher after IPL 2024 win

KKR mentor Gautam Gambhir is determined to make his team the most successful franchise of the Indian Premier League as he aims to surpass MI and CSK’s tally of most title victories. Notably, Kolkata recently clinched their third IPL title after beating SRH in the final of IPL 2024. Following their win, the Shreyas Iyer-led side became the third most successful team in the competition after MI and CSK who have five titles each to their name. Following their win, Gambhir has set his aim higher to be the most successful side in the history of the tournament. Commenting on his team’s win, the former KKR captain said that the journey has just begun as he wants to add three more trophies to his team’s tally to make them the most successful franchise of the tournament. “You’re saying this because we’ve won it three times but if you ask me we’re still two trophies behind MI and CSK. Yes, I’m happy today but again the hunger inside that we’re still not the most successful franchise of the IPL. To get there, we need to win thrice and for that, we will have to work really hard. So I feel, if we’re able to make KKR the most successful franchise of the tournament then there won’t be anything better than that but for that, the journey has just begun” Gambhir told Sportskeeda. Further speaking ahead, the 42-year-old picked KKR’s first title triumph in 2012 as the most special one as it laid the foundation for their next two victories in 2014 and 2024 respectively. Gambhir picks IPL 2012 as ‘most special’ victory “2012, not just because I was the captain but because we won it for the first time I just told you that when you win it for the first time then you get to know the kind of cricket you need to play to win an IPL final. Until you win, you keep questioning whether you will be able to win it or not. Once you win it you feel that we’ve won it and will win it again. Hence 2012, because we won it first time,” he added. Notably, Gambhir led KKR to their first title triumph in 2012 beating defending champions CSK in the final. He further inspired his team to their second triumph in 2014 beating PBKS in a high-scoring final. It took KKR ten long years to add a third trophy to their cabinet as Gambhir returned to the franchise as a mentor after parting ways ahead of the 2018 season. KKR fans would hope that Gambhir continues his ‘Midas Touch’ for the team and continues to guide them to more IPL victories in the years to come. IPL 2024, MI vs SRH: Playing T20s with discipline of Tests - How Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma took down Sunrisers

IPL 2024, MI vs SRH: Playing T20s with discipline of Tests – How Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma took down Sunrisers

Tilak Varma said that he and Suryakumar Yadav tried to pace their innings against SRH with the discipline of Test cricket. On Monday, May 6, the pair rescued MI in their IPL 2024 match at the Wankhede Stadium after the hosts were reduced to 31 for 3 while chasing 174. The duo put on an unbeaten partnership of 143 runs as Mumbai beat the Sunrisers by 7 wickets with 16 balls left in their innings. The left-handed Tilak played second fiddle while Suryakumar took the attack to the opposition bowlers. He stayed not out on 37 runs off 32 balls with 6 fours. IPL 2024 Full Coverage | IPL 2024 Points Table and Standings | 2024 IPL Full Schedule “Mentally, we were challenging each other and playing it with the discipline of Tests. I wanted to just play the situation. I kept my intent, walking in and playing with a straight bat, but while keeping my scoring options open,” Tilak said after the match. ‘Suryakumar deserved the century’ Suryakumar, at the other end, brought up his fifty off 30 balls, after which he raced to his second IPL hundred off 51 balls. In the first ball of the 18th over, Tilak gave the strike back to Suryakumar, who smashed T Natarajan for a six to bring up his century. “Then you saw what happened – the Surya bhai show. At that moment, he was batting well. I thought he deserved 100 and gave him the strike. There was no talk about him limping or anything,” Tilak added. After beating the Orange Army, MI kept hanging by a thread as far as qualifying for the playoffs is concerned. They need to win their remaining 2 matches and hope for other results to go in their favour. The Mumbai-based team will be looking to continue their winning momentum when they next lock horns with Shreyas Iyer’s Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Yuzvendra Chahal Makes 'Copyright Complaint' Against PBKS Star, Writes To Elon Musk

Yuzvendra Chahal Makes ‘Copyright Complaint’ Against PBKS Star, Writes To Elon Musk

India and Rajasthan Royals spinner Yuzvendra Chahal made a hilarious request to Elon Musk — a billionaire and owner of X, formerly Twitter — on Wednesday. Chahal asked Musk to put a copyright strike on Punjab Kings’ pacer Harshal Patel after the latter celebrated a catch during Chennai Super Kings game in a viral fashion. After completing the catch, Harshal celebrated in a manner that is associated to Chahal’s viral meme. Sharing the picture of Harshal’s celebration, Chahal wrote on X, “Dear @elonmusk paaji, Harshal bhai pe copyright lagana hai.” Dear @elonmusk paaji, Harshal bhai pe copyright lagana hai pic.twitter.com/CUAeZd6uNa — Yuzvendra Chahal (@yuzi_chahal) May 1, 2024 The post of Chahal, who has been named in India’s T20 World Cup squad that was announced on April 30, went viral on social media. Talking about the celebration, Kagiso Rabada bowled a short ball outside off stump to Sameer Rizvi, who tried to play an upper cut on it. The ball could not get past the third man where Harshal put a well-timed slide to take the catch. Punjab Kings beat Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Chasing a target of 163, PBKS reached home in 17.5 overs, thanks to Jonny Bairstow’s 46 off 30 and Rilee Rossouw’s 43 off 23. Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad (62 in 48) scored a fighting fifty to help CSK post 162 for 7 in 20 overs after getting an invitation to bat first. Rahul Chahar (2 for 16 in four overs) and Harpreet Brar (2 for 17 in four overs) were the pick of the bowlers for PBKS. Brar was later named the Player of the Match. “It was a good wicket to bowl on, and even Rahul (Chahar) bowled really well. I have been playing since 6 years, so my confidence has been pretty high. Now bowling to these legends of the game feels normal, I just bowl to my strengths. To be honest, I don’t think wickets, my aim is only to bowl lots of dot balls and dot balls create the wickets. When there is spin in the wicket, the bowlers confidence goes up and it is a bit helpful,” said Brar after the game. Topics mentioned in this article

The win secured India’s spot in the Super Eights round.India’s chase of the modest 111-run target was not without hiccups, as they found themselves in trouble at 15-2 and then 44-3. However, Yadav (50) and Shivam Dube (31) steadied the ship with an unbroken 67-run partnership for the fourth wicket, guiding their team to victory with 10 balls to spare.
