‘When I met him…’: Shubman Gill recalls his first meeting with Virat Kohli – Watch

NEW DELHI: If Virat Kohli is called the ‘King’ then Shubman Gill is referred to as the ‘Prince’ of Indian cricket.Gill has been earmarked to succeed Kohli as the batting mainstay of Team India and he himself has gone on record to looking up to Kohli and getting inspiration from the former Indian captain. But Gill and Kohli would be on the opposite sides when Gujarat Titans take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday and ahead of the match, the host broadcaster shared a video where Gill talks about his first meeting with Kohli.Gill says, “When I spoke to him for the first time when I went to New Zealand, there he told me every time a new kid comes, people say he needs a couple of chances, he needs some innings to get through but I think if you are good and capable then you can start from your first innings, you can score a 100 in your first innings. And you come to know how one looks at life.”“So I came to know what kind of a person he is and I really liked it. So what he told me was that if you a new kid comes on the block, in the Indian team, all say that he should get some chances, he should get some innings, he will get set after that only. But he said that he saw that capability in me and you have to give it your 100% , rest we will see what happens,” Gill adds. With 4 wins and 5 defeats, Gujarat Titans are at the seventh spot in the points table while RCB are at the bottom.

'Everyone loves range hitting': KL Rahul after Lucknow Super Giants' loss to Rajasthan Royals

‘Everyone loves range hitting’: KL Rahul after Lucknow Super Giants’ loss to Rajasthan Royals

NEW DELHI: Captain Sanju Samson led the Rajasthan Royals with an unbeaten 33-ball 71, while Dhruv Jurel contributed 52 not out off 34 balls, as they secured a seven-wicket victory over the Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL 2024 match at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday.Put in to bat first, Lucknow Super Giants posted a respectable 196 for five against the Rajasthan Royals, thanks to skipper KL Rahul‘s 76 off 48 balls and Deepak Hooda’s 50 off 31 balls.Chasing 197, Sanju and Jurel formed an unbroken partnership of 121 runs for the fourth wicket to reach the target in 19 overs. After LSG lost the match, skipper KL Rahul rued the team’s poor start and said that his team fell short of 20 runs. “I think we left about 20 runs behind. We didn’t get an ideal start but with the partnership me and Hooda had was great. In these sorts of games, the set batter had to score close to a hundred after getting to 50-60. I think we were 150 after about 15 overs, should have capitalized on it a bit more. I think it is clear the team with more sixes ends up winning. We do try to hit our sixes but today we had to change our approach after those two early wickets. If Hooda pushed on and scored 20 more, and I got 20 more then we’d finish around 220. That would have been the difference, that’s the 20 runs we left behind,” KL said after the match. LSG, who are fourth in the points tally with 5 wins in 9 matches, will next face Mumbai Indians on Tuesday. “We’re seeing with every game how important it is to give the bowlers that extra cushion because they are under the pump. Everyone loves range hitting and hitting it all over the park, we are no different. It is part of the prep. Our big hitters are Stoin and Pooran who can hit those big shots. The other guys like us try to pick our areas and time the shots better,” he said.“(On Mishra and Bishnoi) There is a bit of chat before the game with the numbers and how opposition players match up. Mishra is an experienced player and today was a day we knew he could be useful with how slow he bowls and with the larger boundaries. Once the runs kept flowing, they put pressure on our bowlers. There were 2-3 overs when Krunal bowled really well and squeezed them but then they attacked the fast bowlers. I couldn’t get a good time to get Bishnoi, wanted to keep him for the backend when Rovman and Hetmyer came out to bat because we know he can bowl well to them,” the LSG captain said.

Moorthy Chasing a target of 258, Mumbai Indians fell short by 10 runs during the Indian Premier League 2024 against Delhi Capitals in New Delhi on April 27. Mumbai Indians lost Rohit Sharma (8) early with the score at 35. Ishan Kishan (20) also fell with MI score at 45 in 4.1 overs. All the hopes fell on the shoulders of Suryakumar Yadav (26 off 13 balls) who thrashed three boundaries and 2 sixes. But with the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav, Mumbai Indians relied on its captain Hardik Pandya. Pandya (46) scored some scintillating shots and took his team to 136 in 12.3 overs. Nehal Wadhera (4) fell early and Mumbai Indains were in some sort of trouble. But Tim David (37) and Tilak Verma (63) played brilliantly and they nearly took Mumbai Indians home but fell short by 10 runs. Mohammad Nabi and Piyush Chawla played some useful knocks towards the end of the innings. Rasikh Salam bowled brilliantly and took 3 for 34 Khaleel Ahmed (2 for 45) and Mukesh Kumar (3 for 59 ) were among the wicket-takers though expensive. Earlier, after sent into bat, Delhi Capitals went on a run-spree scoring a dauting score of 257 in 20 overs. Jake Fraser-McGurk (84 off just 27 balls) and Abishek Porel (36) started on a brisk note to put on 114 runs in just 7.3 overs. McGurk was particularly severe right from the first ball of the innings and scored at will despatching the bowlers to all around the Arun Jaitley stadium. He hit 11 fours and 6 sixes in his innings. Porel played second fiddle to McGurk. With the quick wickets of McGurk and Porel at 127 in 9.4 overs, it was Shai Hope (41 off 17 balls) and captain Rishabh Pant (29) scored briskly and added 53 runs in just 4 overs. Shai Hope innings consisted of five sixes. With the loss of Rishabh Pant and Shai Hope, Tristan Stubbs (48) and Axar Patel (11) took Delhi Capitals innings past the 250-mark. Jasprit Bumrah (1 for 35), Luke Wood (1 for 68), Mohammed Nabi (1 for 20) and Piyush Chawla (1 for 36) were the wicket takers for Mumbai Indians. Earlier, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to field against Delhi Capitals. MI made one change to its playing XI, bringing in Luke Wood for Gerald Coetzee. The Delhi side made a couple of changes, bringing in Kumar Kushagra and Lizaad Williams for Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje. While DC is ranked sixth on the points table, MI is placed ninth. Playing XI Delhi Capitals: Jake Fraser-McGurk, Kumar Kushagra, Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant (wk & c), Tristan Stubbs, Abishek Porel, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Lizaad Williams, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed. Back him as CSK top bowler.Travis Head has been ruthless at the top. He has also scored a hundred in the tournament, with over 300 runs at a strike rate of over 200. Back him as SRH top batter. T Natarajan can get CSK in trouble with his variations on the two-paced surface. Back him as SRH top bowler. Both teams are ranked top among all teams in the list of most sixes in IPL 2024. Given the brute force they have, total sixes in the match should be over 20.5. Chennai Super Kings vs Sunrisers Hyderabad T20 Match Prediction & Betting Tips, IPL 2024 Chennai Super Kings will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 46th match of the IPL 2024. The game will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and will start at 7:30 PM IST on April 28. CSK’s twin defeats against LSG have put their campaign in jeopardy. CSK have four wins and as many defeats in eight games so far. They need four wins in the remaining six games to qualify for the playoffs. CSK, however, should not be under pressure as they have a good team and are very capable of getting on a winning run. Also, the home conditions will be a massive advantage against SRH due to their better spin attack. Meanwhile, SRH suffered a defeat against RCB in previous game. SRH have been ruthless with the bat, posting 250+ scores a few times this season already, however, the approach they follow can at times make their batting collapse, exactly what happened against RCB. SRH have five wins in eight games and they need to win three out of their remaining six to qualify for playoffs. CSK have a great bowling attack so SRH will not find it easy beating CSK and that’s for granted. CSK vs SRH Match Toss PredictionCaptains winning the toss should chase at the Chepauk Stadium and the conditions can get better in second innings if there is dew on offer. CSK vs SRH Pitch ReportThe pitch at the Chepauk Stadium should be slightly on the slower side. It should help the spinners as the ball is expected to grip and turn. A score of around 180 could be a par score here. Chennai Weather ReportThe temperature will range between 35 and 29 degrees. Sandeep Warrier stood out with the ball in their last game with 3/15 and he is our pick for Gujarat Titans’ top wicket taker in this clash. There was another half-century for Virat Kohli in Thursday’s victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad and the opener is our tip for RCB’s highest run scorer against Gujarat Titans. Spinner Karn Sharma took 2/29 in the last game and he is our pick for RCB’s top wicket taker on Sunday. With only one score under 30 so far in the tournament, we recommend selecting Sai Sudharsan to hit over 31.5 runs in this game. Gujarat Titans vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru TV channels: The fans can watch the match live on Hotstar Live Streaming: Live streaming of the match will be available on the FAFA191 Cricket Exchange India and website. Gujarat Titans vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru T20 Match Prediction & Betting Tips, IPL 2024 Gujarat Titans take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 45 of the 2024 Indian Premier League at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Titans begin this game on eight points, four points ahead of RCB who are currently at the bottom of the table. Read on as we preview this fixture. This match gets underway in Ahmedabad at 15:30 local time on Sunday 28th April. Gujarat Titans have been one of the most inconsistent sides in this year’s IPL so far and they lost a very tight contest against Delhi Capitals in their last match. However, they have plenty of batting depth and they will fancy their chances against RCB at home. After a miserable losing run, RCB finally got back to winning ways when they beat a very strong Sunrisers Hyderabad side on Thursday. There certainly seems to have been a turnaround in form after they narrowly lost their previous match but they will now need to make it three strong performances in a row to be competitive. GT vs RCB Match Toss PredictionWith 17 of the 31 IPL fixtures at the Narendra Modi Stadium won by the team fielding first, we predict that both captains will walk out to the toss planning to bowl first if they win the toss. GT vs RCB Pitch ReportAlthough we saw only 181 runs and 14 wickets fall on this pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the last game, it is not a bad batting surface. A par score is at least 180 and there is not a huge amount of spin for the slow bowlers to work with so they may be used as a defensive option on this pitch. Ahmedabad Weather ReportThe weather forecast is for clear skies throughout this contest on Sunday afternoon with the temperature likely to be over 35 degrees from start to finish. Low humidity levels and no rain are expected. Read on for team previews, betting tips, latest odds, and match prediction for Gujarat Titans vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Indian Premier League 2024

Archery World Cup: India bag three gold medals to sweep compound team events

Archery World Cup: India bag three gold medals to sweep compound team events

Underlining their supremacy in non-Olympic compound archery, India grabbed a hat-trick of gold medals to make a clean sweep of team events at the ongoing World Cup Stage 1 in Shanghai here on Saturday. India’s Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur dropped just four points to trounce Italy 236-225 in the women’s compound team event to open their account with a gold in the season-opening global showpiece. The men’s team of Abhishek Verma, Priyansh and Prathamesh Fuge went one step better as they missed just two points en route to defeating Netherlands’ Mike Schloesser, Sil Pater and Stef Willems 238-231. The mixed team completed the sweep when the second-seeded Jyothi and Abhishek warded off a late resurgence from their Estonian rivals — Lisell Jaatma and Robin Jaatma — to win 158-157 in a thrilling finish. This was a double gold medal for the reigning Asian Games champion Jyothi who is also in the hunt for an individual gold and will play her semifinal later in the day. Priyansh is also in the hunt for an individual medal in the compound segment. Medal rounds in the recurve section will be on Sunday and India are eyeing two gold from the Olympic discipline. The Indian men’s team will take on Olympic champions South Korea in the gold medal clash. Deepika Kumari is in fray for an individual medal and will play her semifinal against South Korean rival in the women’s recurve section. The women’s compound team, who qualified as top seed, dropped just four points from 24 arrows to down sixth seeded Italy in the first match of the day. In the first three ends of six arrows each, Jyothi, Aditi and Parneet missed the perfect 10 only twice to take a handsome 178-171 lead over Marcella Tonioli, Irene Franchini and Elisa Roner. In the fourth end, the Indians dropped two points but it did not matter much as they nailed the gold with an 11-point margin. The men’s team, who qualified as the fourth seed, put up a near flawless show to defeat their Dutch opponents. They began with a perfect round of 60 and dropped just two points in the next two ends, before sealing the win with another perfect 60 in the final set of six arrows. In the compound mixed team event, Jyothi and Abhishek took a three-point lead, starting off with a perfect round of 40. The three-point drop in the first end proved decisive for Estonian archers who went on to shoot three perfect rounds of 40 each but the Indians held their nerves to seal the issue. Leading 119-117, the Indian duo needed a minimum score of 39 points out of a maximum 40 in the final end. They did just that to wrap up the country’s third gold.
