The first match of the ODI series was exciting with Zimbabwe drawing first blood. The hosts were too hot to handle for a hapless Pakistani side which missed the services of Babar Azam, Afridi etc.Β

Zimbabwe, from time to time, produce a brilliant all-round team effort. And they sure did so in the first match of the ODI series against Pakistan, who’re coming off a high after a splendid series victory in Australia against the world champions.

Zimbabwe Preview

Zimbabwe are a side in transition. Three of their top 3 players who’re in their 39s and 40s have decided to stick around and pass their experience on to the young guns shaping up as the future of Zim cricket. But they looked like the better side and much experienced side than their counterparts in green. On an overcast day, they were inserted to bat first. Their openers took the game on, scoring 40 runs off the first 6 overs against a quality Pakistani attack.

Pakistan Preview

Pakistan went down fighting to Zimbabwe in the first match of the series in typical fashion, straight from the highs of clinching a series Down Under.

From securing a victory against the World Champs to being knocked down by a nation like Zimbabwe, Pakistani cricket never ceases to amaze. Granted they are missing a few key names in Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi among others. The XI looks slightly inexperienced all the way through from top to bottom, with captain Mohammad Rizwan the only experienced cricketer with more appearances. But Pakistan never wanted to take the game head-on after putting Zimbabwe in to bat first.

Weather Conditions

Run scoring was hard on this wicket the other day, which is not that uncommon at Bulawayo. Any score around 250 to 280 would be good to defend as long as the bowlers make sure they take full advantage of the helpful conditions. Light rains are in forecast in the afternoon but it’s going to be mostly cloudy throughout with short intervals of sunshine.

ZIM vs PAK Pitch Report

The match will be played at the Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo in Zimbabwe. The hosts win over Pakistan was their first in ten matches at this venue.

Toss: To Bat

Batting first proved to be a sound decision six out of ten times in the last 10 matches so we’re hoping that the toss winning captain toss would win toss and bat first if the conditions aren’t too overcast.
