ZIM vs AFG Match Prediction & Analysis
Sometimes in sport, one finds a mis-match and that was certainly the case on Thursday as Afghanistan dominated Zimbabwe from ball one en route to a triumph by 232 runs.
The winning margin has led to many cricket writers and supporters of Zimbabwe cricket declaring the series already over but the truth is that after the first game was washed out, there is still the possibility of it finishing all square!
TEAMS PREVIEW
Zimbabwe Preview
First things first, if Zimbabwe are to win this game and get back into the series ahead of the third and final match, they simply must find a way to play the Afghanistan bowlers better on Saturday!
The tone was set at the top of the order when Ben Curran, brother of Sam and Tom, was run out from the final ball of the opening over for a six-ball duck and the team never recovered. They were eventually bowled out for just 54 and there would still have been 13 balls remaining in their innings if it had been a T20I!
Afghanistan Preview
There are many facts, stats and interesting points that one can pick out of the second ODI to show Afghanistanβs dominance but the most pertinent one is that they bowled out Zimbabwe for 54 without the great Rashid Khan even bowling one ball!
That shows just how well the rest of the bowling attack performed with each of Fazalhaq Farooqi, Azmatullah Omarzai, AM Ghazanfar and Naveed Zadran picking up wickets whilst conceding less than 4.33 runs per over.
Of course the batting was also very strong and the Afghans have a natural flair for attacking cricket. The opening pair of Sediqullah Atal (104) and Abdul Malik (84) will both come into this game brimming with confidence after putting on 191 inside 35 overs.
Weather Conditions
Although there could be some cloudy spells during the day, it promises to be another warm, sunny and dry one in Harare for this game with the temperature up at 29 degrees at its peak.
ZIM vs AFG Pitch Report
There is something for the bowlers to work with in Harare but the hosts certainly batted under par by being rolled out for 54! Afghanistanβs total of 286/6 was not over par and we think that 300 is an average score on this wicket.
Toss: To Bat
Afghanistan will be happy to do whatever in this game first but we expect Zimbabwe to show some confidence in their batting if they win the toss. If they do not then the series could be over so we predict that both captains will want to bat first.
