MUMBAI, India — Suryakumar Yadav’s masterful unbeaten century led Mumbai Indians to a seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League on Monday.
Yadav’s unbeaten 102 in 51 balls included six sixes and 12 boundaries at Wankhede. He ensured Mumbai cruised to 174-3 with 16 balls to spare in reply to Hyderabad’s 173-8.
Mumbai ended a four-match losing streak.
Captain Hardik Pandya and leg-spinner Piyush Chawla earlier squeezed Hyderabad to a total that became competitive only by captain Pat Cummins’ late 35 not out off 17 balls.
Mumbai rose on the table from last to second to last. Fourth-placed Hyderabad needs at least two wins from its last three home games to seal a playoff spot.
Mumbai’s top order struggles continued when it slipped to 31-3 at home after Rohit Sharma top-edged Cummins on 4.
Yadav survived early swing produced by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and took aim at the short square boundaries. He shared the match-winning unbeaten 143-run partnership with Tilak Varma, who scored 37 off 32 balls.
Yadav shrugged off discomfort in his legs and raised his half-century off 30 balls. Then he cut loose against Cummins, who conceded 18 runs off his last over. Yadav reached his century with a six off T Natarajan over extra cover that also sealed the game.
Earlier, Travis Head launched Hyderabad with 48 off 30 and survived being clean-bowled off a no-ball by IPL debutant pacer Anshul Kamboj.
But Kamboj, who conceded 32 off his first two overs, recovered well and clean-bowled Mayank Agarwal.
Chawla got the big wicket of Head on the backward square leg boundary. Chawla also dismissed Heinrich Klaasen on 2 off a brilliant googly. Pandya ran through the lower order.
