After completing a 3-0 sweep in the WT20Is, England will now look to replicate the same scoreline across three WODIs.

  • South Africa Women have lost each of their last four WODIs.
  • England Women lost their last WODI in September but were in fine form prior to that!
  • England Women have won the last four head to heads in this format.

Although South Africa Women hosted England Women for three WT20Is last month and lost all three of them, this is a new series and a new format with the score beginning at 0-0!

England Women certainly look like a side who mean business and have re-found their mojo after a shocking group stage exit during the Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE. South Africa Women, were unable to replicate their Women’s T20 World Cup form and have reverted to their level away from ICC tournaments where they struggle to keep pace with the teams in the bracket below Australia Women.

South Africa Preview

After being outplayed in both disciplines during the WT20I series, South Africa Women will arrive at the Diamond Oval for this day-night WODI needing to find a higher level with the bat and ball in this opener.

All-rounder Nadine de Klerk top scored for the hosts during the WT20I series but she only scored 80 runs across the three games and most pundits are pointing towards captain Laura Wolvaardt, who will open the batting and is likely to be key in this first match of the series.

England Preview

Confidence will be high in the England Women’s squad ahead of this series and they will arguably be even stronger in this series with the arrival of the experienced Tammy Beaumont at the top of the order. She was in exceptional form in international cricket in September and England Women will be hoping the time away from the game has not harmed her after she made scores of 150 not out (WODI), 52 (WODI) and 40 (WT20I) a couple of months ago!

But England Women have plenty of depth with bat and ball so even if one of their key players doesn’t deliver there is a good chance someone else with a fine record will do so.

With the ball, Sophie Ecclestone will lead the spin attack although Charlie Dean will be a big threat, particularly as she finished the WT20Is as the top wicket taker.

Weather Conditions

It is expected to be a fine day in terms of the weather in Kimberley on Wednesday. The temperature will top 34 degrees in the early afternoon and, even after the sun goes down and the floodlights are in full flow, the temperature should still be above 25!

RSAW vs ENGW Pitch Report

The last WODI at this venue saw Sri Lanka post 229 all out before South Africa chased down their target with 7 wickets and 14 balls remaining. It looks like another good batting track with a par score expected to be around 250.

Toss: To Bat

With the temperature forecast to drop by five or six degrees from the start of the first innings to the start of the second, we predict that both captains will want to bat first in this clash.
