The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) hosted a special ceremony on Tuesday, June 10, to celebrate the prestigious induction of MS Dhoni into the ICC Hall of Fame. Dhoni has become the 11th Indian cricketer to receive this honour, joining a distinguished group recognised for their extraordinary contributions to the sport.

The event at the JSCA was attended by President Ajay Nath Shahdeo, Vice President Sanjay Pandey, Secretary Saurabh Tiwari, Treasurer Amitava Ghosh, along with other esteemed committee members and association affiliates, all of whom came together to pay tribute to Dhoni’s enduring legacy in both Indian and world cricket.

President Shahdeo met Dhoni in person and presented him with a bouquet, acknowledging his monumental impact on the game.

“Heartiest congratulations to #Mahi @mahi7781 on his #ICCHallOfFame induction! Had the pleasure of meeting him and celebrating this remarkable achievement. Wishing #Mahi continued success and admiration from fans worldwide!” Shahdeo wrote in an Instagram post, sharing a photograph from the meeting.

Dhoni, reflecting on his latest accolade, expressed gratitude for the recognition.

“It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever,” Dhoni was quoted as saying in an ICC press release.

In a career spanning over 14 years, Dhoni scored 10,773 runs in 350 One Day Internationals, 4,876 runs in 90 Tests, and 1,617 runs in 98 T20 Internationals. The Ranchi-born cricketer famously led India to their first World Cup title in 28 years in 2011, four years after guiding the team to victory in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. He also captained India to a Champions Trophy triumph in 2013.

Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the most successful captains in white-ball cricket history. Renowned for his calm leadership and unorthodox style, he redefined the role of wicketkeeper-batsman in Indian cricket.

Having retired from international cricket in 2020, Dhoni has continued to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). At 43, he recently concluded his commitments with CSK for the 2025 season and has been spending time in his hometown of Ranchi.

Speculation surrounding his IPL future remains high. During the 2025 season, Dhoni addressed the questions, saying he was in no rush to make a decision and would consider his next steps after taking some time off — including a few motorbike rides around Ranchi.

Dhoni is the joint-most successful captain in IPL history, having led CSK to five titles — a record he shares with Rohit Sharma.
