IPL 2024, PBKS vs CSK: Punjab are still in race for playoffs, says optimistic Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel said that PBKS are still in with a good chance of making their way through to the playoffs in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. On Sunday, May 5, PBKS lost to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s CSK by 28 runs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

With the defeat, Punjab kept languishing in the bottom half of the table with 8 points and a net run rate of -0.187 thanks to wins in 4 out of 11 matches. With 3 games left in the league stage, PBKS are in a must-win position from here on.

‘We can beat any team’

“We just need to play good cricket. In terms of playoffs race, in 13 years of playing in the IPL, I have never seen teams out of the race or qualified before 13 and 14 games are done. So, we are still in the race,” Harshal told in the post-match press conference.

“As a team, we know that when we play high quality cricket, and everyone does their job, we play our roles well. We know that we can beat any team on any ground,” Harshal added.

After opting to bowl first, PBKS restricted their opponents to 167 for 9 in 20 overs. Harshal was impressive after he got the wickets of Daryl Mitchell, Shardul Thakur and MS Dhoni to finish with figures of 4-0-24-3.

PBKS faltered in the batting department and were restricted to 139 for 9. Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh scored 30 and 27 runs respectively, but failed to take their team home. Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets and did not let the Punjab batters get away.

The Kings will next be up against Faf du Plessis’ RCB on Thursday, May 9 in Dharamsala.
