TEAMS PREVIEW
India Preview
After winning the T20 leg of the series 2-1, India Women have sealed the 3-match ODI series against West Indies Women by registering another comprehensive victory by 115 runs in the second ODI. They have already won the first ODI by 211 runs. With the series in pocket, the India Women would go for the kill in the third ODI.
In the first match, India Women posted 314 for 9 with Smriti Mangana top-scoring with 91 runs for India. Later, Renuka Singh took a maiden five-wicket haul to both West Indies out for just 103 runs, winning the game by 211 runs. The second ODI proved to be a run-fest. India Women piled up 358 for 5, thanks to Harleen Deol’s maiden international century, 115 runs, and opener Pratika Rawal’s innings of 76 runs. Jemimah Rodrigues and Smriti Mandana also scored valuable 50s.
West Indies Preview
West Indies Women’s weakness in batting costed them yet again as they are down 0-2 in the three-match series against India Women. It was a much better performance in the second ODI by West Indies Women, but their over-dependence in batting on Hayley Matthews was on display yet again.
The first ODI was a total disaster for West Indies Women as they could not withstand a superb bowling spell from Renuka Singh and bundled out for just 103 runs, losing the match by a big margin of 211 runs. The second ODI was not too far away from the first one, except that Hayley Matthews scored a century that saved face for West Indies Women. In the run fest, after conceding 358 to India Women, West Indies Women managed to score 243 all out on the back of a superb century by captain Hayley Matthews. The rest of the WI back and right showed little to no spark, which has been the case throughout the series.
Captain Hayley Matthews has been the standout performer for Western League with the pass, but the team needs to support her for Western League to have any chance of winning the third ODI. Their bowling has been below par with no noteworthy performances so far in the ODI series. This is the last match of the tour for West Indies Women. Having lost 1-2 in the T20I leg of the series. West Indies would love to, at the least, replicate the same scoreline in the ODI series as well and end the series on a winning note.
