Match 5 of TNPL 2025 pits IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans against Dindigul Dragons at the SNR College Cricket Ground this Sunday. The defending champions have started the season on a winning note and will be confident of continuing their momentum against the Tamizhans, a team they beat twice last season.

IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans Preview

IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans had a poor start to their season, suffering an 8-wicket loss to Chepauk Super Gillies. Batting first at the SNR College Cricket Ground, the Tamizhans posted 173-6 on the board but Chepauk overhauled the target in just 16 overs with 8 wickets in hand.

Despite the defeat, the Tamizhans had some positives to take, particularly from the batting unit. Tushar Raheja was their star with the bat, smashing 79 off just 43 balls. Pradosh Paul was another batter to make an impact with a crucial knock of 38 off 28.

They’ll also count on Amith Sathvik and Mohamed Ali S, who both chipped in with important runs last season and have the ability to contribute meaningful runs in the batting unit.

The bowling fell apart for the Tamizhans in the previous game, as apart from Sai Kishore, everyone was carted for runs. Sai is coming off an excellent IPL season, and you can count on him to deliver an economical spell.

T Natarajan and Mohamed Ali are two other wicket-taking options in the bowling unit, although they do tend to go for runs when things don’t go their way.

Dindigul Dragons Preview

Defending champions Dindigul Dragons played like true champions in their season opener as they brushed aside Lyca Kovai Kings with ease. After restricting the Kings to a below-par score of 148-9, the Dragons chased the target down in just 17.2 overs with seven wickets in hand.

Shivam Singh was the star of the chase with a superb unbeaten knock of 82 off 50 that helped the team get over the line. Vimal Khumar and skipper Ravichandran Ashwin also chipped in with important cameos.

Along with Shivam, Baba Indrajith is another one to watch out for in the batting department. He was the team’s second-highest scorer last season with 286 runs in 10 innings at an average of 41 and a strike rate of 133.

The bowlers were in top form for the Dragons in the first match, with Sandeep Warrier, Ashwin, and Ganeshan Periyaswamy all chipping in with two wickets each. Their attack also consists of Varun Chakaravarthy, who has been in excellent form this year and will be quite a handful on this surface.

The Dragons easily have one of the best bowling attacks in the competition, which gives them the edge in this contest.

Weather Conditions

The SNR College Cricket Stadium in Coimbatore isn’t the easiest track for batters compared to some other venues in India. While runs are definitely there to be scored once batters settle in, bowlers—especially spinners—tend to find some grip and turn, particularly during the middle overs.

Weather-wise, Coimbatore should see partly cloudy conditions with a good dose of humidity. Rain doesn’t look likely, so we should get the full match without interruptions.

IDTT vs DID Pitch Report

At SNR College Cricket Stadium, the average first-innings score is 151. In the first two matches of TNPL 2025 played here, targets of 150 and 174 were chased down with much ease. With that recent result in mind, both teams are likely to aim for a total somewhere in the 170–180 range if they want to feel secure about defending it.

Toss: To Bowl

Fielding teams generally have the upper hand at the SNR College Cricket Ground, and this was proved in the first two matches of TNPL 2025 played here, as the teams batting second coasted to comfortable victories. Both captains will hence look to field first in this game.
