ENG vs IND: Harry Brook’s luck runs out, dismissed for 99 in Leeds Test

Iran-US tensions: Nuclear sites targeted, impact disputed

Harry Brook’s luck in Leeds finally ran out as the England star was dismissed on 99 during Day 3 of the first Test at Headingley on Sunday, June 22. Brook tried to get to his ninth hundred with a pull shot off Prasidh Krishna’s bowling, but the ball went straight to Shardul Thakur, who was placed at the boundary.

Brook already survived a couple of close calls during his knock that consisted of 11 boundaries and two sixes. The biggest one was on Day two when he was caught off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling, only for the Indian pacer to overstep. On Day three, Brook made the Indian bowlers pay for their mistakes.

ENG vs IND 1st Test Day 3 Updates

The day started for England with the wicket of centurion Ollie Pope before captain Ben Stokes also edged one to Rishabh Pant off Mohammed Siraj’s bowling. However, Brook looked to be solid as he took the attack to the bowlers, starting off by playing an expansive shot off Bumrah.

He then got a boundary off Krishna to give momentum to his innings. Brook was troubled a bit by Ravindra Jadeja’s spin but then survived a close call as he edged one that went over Rishabh Pant. He went into the lunch break at 57 and had Jamie Smith for support.

Once Smith departed, Brook decided to go on the charge and started to play his shots as he was left with the tail.

Jaiswal drops another one to give Brook lifeline

Brook was batting on 82 when he got another lucky break when he played a false shot and hit the ball straight to Jaiswal at gully. However, the Indian opener dropped another sitter as Shubman Gill and the rest of the fielders were left frustrated with Bumrah left in shock.

Brook looked set to punish India more by hitting a six and a boundary off Siraj before strolling his way to 99. This is when disaster struck for Brook as he failed to get the proper connection to the ball and it went straight to the fielder.

Brook is the 16th England batter to be dismissed on 99. The last English batter to be dismissed on 99 was Jonny Bairstow during his innings against South Africa in 2017.
