India are on a tour to Australia to play five test matches. The grueling test series is coming to an end with the fifth test being played at SCG. You can never write off the Australians, can you? After the big defeat in Perth at the start of the series, Austria looked down and out. Their batting unit has been struggling in 2024 to score any runs, and that cost them the Test in Perth. However, they turned around the series in the next three Tests to be 2-1 up in the series before the series decided 5th Test at the SCG.
In the second Test at Adelaide, Australia won the day-night Test by 10 wickets after restricting India to under 200 runs in both innings. Travis had found form with a scintillating 140-run innings and was as adjudged the player of the match. Mitchell Starc took 6 wickets for 40 runs in the first inning in this Test. The third Test at Brisbane could have gone either way, if not for the rain. The match ended in a draw immediately after India started a chase of 275 in the 4th innings. Smith and Head were among the runs with a century each in the first innings at Adelaide.

What a great chance India had to dominate the Australians for the third successive time after winning the first Test at Perth. India came into this series after a 0-3 loss against New Zealand in the home conditions. They needed to win the series against Australia to cement a place in the WTC final. At the moment, with 2-1 down already, all India can do is hope for a win at Sydney and expect Sri Lanka to defeat Australia later at their home.
Jasprit Brumrah has been exceptional not just in this series but throughout the year 2024. He has 30 wickets in the first 4 Tests of this series at a ridiculous average of just 12.83. No one in cricket history has more wickets than Jaswit Dumra in a calendar year at a better average. He has become the only player in the Test history to cross 200 wickets under the average of 20. Now that is something absolutely phenomenal.
India must be wondering how could they lose 2 Tests when they have someone like Jasprit Brumrah bowling for them. It’s India’s batting that is to be blamed here, especially Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who have done very poorly in this series and in year 2024. Kohli did get a century in Perth but his other innings have been without success. Rohit Sharma on the other hand is searching for runs and looks very close to his retirement as per some experts and critics.
