Manchester City’s 3rd place finish in 2024/25 better than title win: Pep Guardiola

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has dismissed the notion that the 2024-25 season was a disaster for his side and claimed the third-place finish he got is better than his previous title win. City fell off the pace this season in the title race and almost missed out on Champions League football before getting their act together and making it to the competition. This was Guardiola’s second trophyless season of his career, but said it wasn’t a disaster for his side. Speaking to Reuters, the City boss said that he wants to suffer when he isn’t winning and feels that everyone is in the world to feel different experiences. “I want to suffer when I’m not winning games,” Guardiola told Reuters in an exclusive interview. “I want to feel bad. I want to sleep badly. I want that when the situation goes bad, it affects me… I want that!” “I’m angry… my food, it tastes worse… I don’t need to eat much because I need to feel that (anger). Because if it doesn’t, what sense would it have? Winning or losing… We’re here in this world to feel different experiences, different moods.” Guardiola went on to say that the 2024-25 season was the most valuable one for him as he was able to learn a lot. “You judge happiness if you win. You judge success if you win and win. And that is a problem,” he said. “I will not judge myself or my team because of bad seasons or good seasons… Maybe finishing third in a season and never giving up otherwise you finish 10th or 12th, maybe that’s a better season than when we won the fourth Premier League in a row. “We faced so many difficulties that were higher due to injuries, relaxation, I was not good enough… for many reasons. Maybe the analysis about my period is that the last season was better. Qualifying for the Champions League when we were on the verge of not getting it.” ‘Winners are boring’ Reflecting on his setbacks, Guardiola quoted former Uruguayan President Jose Mujica and said that success is all about how many times you stand up after falling down. “Success is how many times you stand up when you fall down.” He added: “Fall down, stand up. Fall down, stand up… That is the biggest success.” “Winners are boring,” he said, adding that he always looked forward to post-match interviews with players and coaches from losing sides. “It’s nice to see the losers. That is when you really learn.” City and Guardiola will be aiming to mount a stronger challenge next season. Published On: Jun 5, 2025 Tune In

England vs West Indies, ENG vs WI 2025, Today Match Prediction

𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇 : England vs West Indies 𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 : June 06,Friday𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄 : 23:00 PM IST𝐕𝐄𝐍𝐔𝐄 : Seat Unique Riverside, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom 𝐓𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 : 1st T20 2025 After the ODI whitewash, Harry Brook’s England will look for a repeat in the T20Is. England vs West Indies TV channels: The fans can watch the match live on Hotstar Live Streaming: Live streaming of the match will be available on the FAFA191 Cricket Exchange India and website. ENG vs WI Match Prediction & Analysis The ODI series between England and West Indies was pretty one-sided with England really pushed in only one of the three games but the tourists will hope that some experienced additions to their squad can make themselves more competitive in these three T20Is. Overall it has been a disappointing tour of Ireland and England for the ‘Men in Maroon’ who have won only one and lost four matches across the six scheduled games. After ending the ODIs in the hustle and bustle of London, most apparent to the players after they were caught up in traffic en route to the ground and the start was delayed, this T20I series begins in Chester-le-Street, the venue where West Indies beat England when they last played a match in this format in this country. England were excellent with bat and ball in the ODIs and Harry Brook will be looking for more of the same from his side in this opening game. TEAMS PREVIEW England Preview After brushing aside the West Indies in Birmingham, Cardiff and London, Harry Brook will be looking to show the cricket loving folk of Durham that he is turning around the fortunes of England’s T20 side as well in this game. The right-handed Yorkshireman has been in excellent form since taking on the captaincy and he will be hoping to continue that form in this game. Although if he doesn’t the return of IPL winning batter Phil Salt, who enjoys a brilliant head to head record against West Indies, should provide a big boost for the hosts who have a very long batting line-up. With the ball, Liam Dawson is back in the squad and we expect him to team up with Rehan Ahmed in a new-look English spin pairing.  West Indies Preview Overall it has been a very disappointing tour for West Indies who have won only one of their five completed matches since touching down on Irish and English soil over the last few weeks. The switch to T20 cricket should provide them with an opportunity to find a winning formula tough and the return of experienced players like Andre Russell and Jason Holder should give the side a much needed boost of class. Romario Shepherd is another excellent addition, he comes straight from winning the IPL with RCB, and Rovman Powell provides plenty of powerful middle and lower-order hitting. With the ball, Alzarri Joseph, spinner Gudakesh Motie and Matthew Forde will be crucial for the tourists. West Indies Predicted Playing XI: Shai Hope (c), Brandon King, Johnson Charles (wk), Rovman Powell Sherfane Rutherford, Jason Holder, Andre Russell, Romario Shepherd, Matthew Forde, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph Weather Conditions It is very rarely warm in Durham and the temperature is likely to drop from 16 degrees at the toss to a cool 12 degrees by the end of the game. No rain, but plenty of cloud cover is forecast. ENG vs WI Pitch Report This looks like being a typical pitch at the Riverside Ground which means something off the surface and through the air for the pace bowlers. A par score will be in the region of around 180-190. Toss: To Bowl Recent T20 games, and the last T20I, were won by the team fielding first and so we predict that both captains will go out for the toss planning to bowl first ahead of this game.

File | Photo Credit: AP Former Sri Lankan off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake has been indicted by the Hambantota High Court for attempting to lure a fellow player for match-fixing during the 2020 Lanka Premier League (LPL) . The Attorney General’s Department said this becomes the first such indictment of a national level cricketer for match-fixing under the country’s recently-introduced anti-corruption law. He was arrested and released on bail in 2023. The 40-year-old played one Test, 49 ODIs and 24 T20 Internationals for Sri Lanka between 2012 and 2016 for a combined haul of 78 wickets. He was a member of Sri Lanka’s 2014 T20 World Cup-winning squad. According to local media reports, he made the corrupt approach to another national player Tharindu Ratnayake, who was playing for Colombo Kings at that time. “Senanayake is also alleged to have contacted two other cricketers participating in the inaugural LPL in 2020 via telephone from Dubai, attempting to persuade them to engage in match-fixing,” a report in the Sri Lankan ‘Daily Mirror‘ stated. England have announced a 14-member squad for the opening Test of the series against India, which begins June 20 at Headingley. Ben Stokes will lead the side, with Jamie Overton making a return to the Test team after nearly three years. Karun Nair made a return to the Indian Test squad after over eight years, and produced a brilliant performance during his outing for India A against England Lions last week. Nair hit a double century in the game, while Abhimanyu Easwaran, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Nitish Kumar Reddy – all part of the squad – smashed half-centuries in the second innings. 'Virat Kohli waited only 18 years. Tendulkar's wait was even longer': Sehwag draws 2011 WC parallel with RCB's IPL title

‘Virat Kohli waited only 18 years. Tendulkar’s wait was even longer’: Sehwag draws 2011 WC parallel with RCB’s IPL title

Jun 05, 2025 01:32 PM IST Virat Kohli’s 18-year wait for an IPL title ended on Tuesday night, and Sehwag drew a parallel of the victory with Sachin Tendulkar’s 2011 WC win. Virat Kohli’s long wait for an IPL trophy ended on Tuesday night when he lifted the title after Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated the Punjab Kings by six runs. The RCB star, who is the only player to have represented only one franchise since the inception of the league in 2008, faced three defeats in the final before eventually ending the trophy drought in Ahmedabad. Kohli was also the highest scorer in RCB’s innings in the final with 43 off 35 deliveries, and even as it wasn’t the most flamboyant knock, his stay helped RCB reach a strong score of 190/9 in 20 overs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Virat Kohli reacts while sitting beside the trophy after winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 final cricket match against Punjab Kings (AFP) Following RCB’s win, former India opener Virender Sehwag, who has shared the dressing room with Kohli in Team India and Delhi, lauded the RCB star, while also drawing an interesting parallel with Sachin Tendulkar. When asked about the “wait” that Kohli had to endure for a trophy, Sehwag cited that Tendulkar’s wait for an ODI World Cup trophy was even longer, and still, he never lost hope. “His (Kohli) wait to win the trophy for only 12 years. Sachin Tendulkar waited from 1989 till 2011. So, Kohli’s wait for lesser, and still even Sachin never lost hope. He had made up his mind, he would only bow out with a World Cup trophy in his hand,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz. Sehwag added that Kohli can be “relieved” and retire without regrets, whenever he makes the decision. “It’s the same for Virat Kohli. Now, he can be relieved. He can happily stop playing IPL whenever he wants to make that decision. A player plays to win the trophy. Money comes and goes, but winning trophies isn’t easy. And even as Kohli’s wait ended, he has still made a very strong contribution in their campaign,” added the former opener. Kohli’s campaign Kohli ended the 2025 season with 657 runs to his name in 15 matches, finishing as the season’s third-highest run-scorer. He averaged 54.75 while scoring with a strike rate of 144.71. He smashed eight half-centuries in the season. News / Cricket News / ‘Virat Kohli waited only 18 years. Tendulkar’s wait was even longer’: Sehwag draws 2011 WC parallel with RCB’s IPL title See Less
