SLW vs IND-W Match Prediction & Analysis
Sri Lanka Women will kick off the tri-nation series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo against India. The hosts are coming into this competition on the back of a 2-0 loss against NZ in an away ODI series.
They have made a host of changes to the squad that toured New Zealand. Malki Madara, who impressed everyone in the T20I series against the White Ferns, has made it to the Sri Lanka Womenβs squad for the Tri-Nation series.
India Women defeated Ireland Women 3-0 in the recent home series. Harmanpreet Kaur, who was rested for the home series, is back to lead the side for the tri-series with Sri Lanka and South Africa.
TEAMS PREVIEW
Sri Lanka Women Preview
Sri Lanka Women suffered two huge defeats in New Zealand as they lost the series 2-0. They couldnβt even reach the 200-run mark while chasing 281 and 246 runs in the two matches.
Skipper Chamari Athapaththu is not only a key batter at the top but also plays a crucial role in the bowling department. She is economical and consistent with wickets, too.
Vishmi Gunaratne and Harshita Samawickrama will continue featuring in the top 3 for Sri Lanka Women. The top order is quite experienced and also reliable with the bat. Samawickrama, in particular, is one to watch out for at number 3.
Batting all-rounders Kavisha Dilhari and Nilakshi de Silva are other promising players in the lower middle order. In addition to including 6 all-rounders in the squad, Sri Lanka Women have also brought in more specialist batters into the squad after the loss in New Zealand.
Sugandika Kumar is another consistent bowler who will be supporting the skipper in the bowling department. Malki Madora, who bowled at an economy of less than 6 r.p.o in 3 T20Is against the White Ferns, will be crucial for Sri Lanka in this match.
India Women Preview
India Women are a solid overall squad and bring in a lot of confidence from their recent home win. Pratika Rawal and Tejal Hasabnis are the two new faces whoβve made a strong impression in recent matches with the bat.
Rawal was exceptional as the opening partner for Mandhana, while Hasabnis showed composure in the middle order and built crucial partnerships for the side. With Harmanpreet Kaur back in the side, Indiaβs batting department looks even stronger.
The all-rounder will also be impactful with the ball for India. Jemimah Rodrigues will be expected to come good at number 4 while Harleen Deol, the in-form all-rounder, made a splash at number 3 against Ireland.
India Women experimented quite a bit in their home series and also promoted Richa Ghosh to number 3. The wicket-keeper batter delivered a fifty when she got the chance to play at the position.
India has depth in the batting lineup and plenty of experience, too. The bowling attack looks different as Renuka Singh Thakur and Titas Sadhu are missing from the squad due to injuries.
Nallapureddy Charani and Shuchi Upadhyay have made it to the squad in place of the regular bowling duo. The two uncapped bowlers will be eager to make their debut for India. Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma are the key wicket-takers in this squad to watch out for.
Weather Conditions
The weather forecast is for scattered thunderstorms followed by light rain in the evening. It looks like the weather could play spoilsport on the match day in Colombo.
SLW vs IND-W Pitch Report
It is a good batting wicket at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. ThoughΒ the average 1st innings score here is 231 runs,Β there have been some pretty high-scoring encounters at the venue in recent years. There will be enough help on offer for the batters to put up a good total.
Toss: To Bat
Teams batting first at this venue have won 92 of 169 ODIs. Batting first and setting up a competitive total will give a huge advantage to the batting team. It wonβt be easy to chase down a target against the spinners in Colombo. And both teams have promising bowling attacks with quality spinners.
