With plenty of former international stars playing impressive innings and returning eye-catching bowling figures, the great Kumar Sangakkara weighed in with his third score of 47+ in the tournament in the last game, Sri Lanka Masters’ victory over bottom of the table England Masters.
He was always one of the most stylish players of his generation who also broke a number of records along the way with his non-stop run scoring at the highest level and he comes into this semi-final after hitting 106 not out in the last game. England Masters may not have been the strongest side in the competition but Sangakkara also hit 51 against India Masters so he could be the star once again in this fixture.
West Indies Masters Preview
West Indies Masters ended their group stage on Tuesday night with a 29-run victory over South Africa Masters in Raipur. It was not the best performance seen in the tournament so far but West Indies Masters will not mind as they still picked up eight wickets as well as posting a total of 200/5!
Lendl Simmons starred with the bat, hitting over half of his side’s runs with an innings that included 13x fours and 5x sixes. He was well assisted by his skipper Brian Lara who played an anchor role while Chadwick Walton relished the ‘finisher’ role with 38 not out from 12 balls. All three will be full of confidence for this crucial knockout game.
But it will be a bowler for the ‘Men in Maroon’ who will have the most self-belief as Ravi Rampaul took the Player of the Match award. It was only a couple of years ago that he was still delivering the goods on the main T20 circuit and his figures of 5/26 showed that he is still very much operating at the top of his game.
Weather Conditions
It is set to be another hot day throughout Thursday and into the evening. The temperature will still be no lower than the high-twenties at the end of the match and will be in the mid-thirties for the majority of the first innings.
