NZ vs PAK Match Prediction & Analysis
Many pundits and cricket followers had written this series off after New Zealand raced into a 2-0 lead but Friday’s contest in Auckland which saw Pakistan win by nine wickets with 24 balls remaining has thrown the five-game series into the open!
New Zealand will now host Pakistan in Mount Maunganui where they have the second opportunity to seal the series.
Pakistan won the game on Friday thanks to one incredible batting innings after they had conceded over 200 runs in the field, so they will need to work on their bowling in this match as it may not be possible to dominate the New Zealand bowlers again.
TEAMS PREVIEW
New Zealand Preview
New Zealand came off the pitch after the end of the first innings in Auckland looking like the series was already in the bag after they posted 204. But they were in for a rude awakening courtesy of Hasan Nawaz so we can expect a focused Black Caps for this game as they look to finish the series once again.
Mark Chapman hit 94 runs from 44 balls on Friday and there were impressive attacking displays from Tim Seifert, Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell. Finn Allen hit a three-ball duck but he is equally capable of smashing a very quick hundred in this clash.
Jacob Duffy was the only New Zealand bowler to pick up a wicket in the third T20I and the team management must find a new approach to bowling at Hasan Nawaz.
Pakistan Preview
Ahead of this series, many pundits looked at Pakistan’s squad and though the only way they could be successful in this series was via their experienced batters or through their key pace bowl duo of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf.
However, it was 22 year old right-hander Hasan Nawaz, who had been dismissed for a duck in both of the first two games of the series who stepped up and smashed 105 not out to take the Player of the Match Award and win the game for the Men in Green.
Confidence should be high in the camp ahead of this game but they will need similar performances across the team if they are to level the series after Sunday’s clash.
Weather Conditions
The forecast is for some sunny spells interspersed with some sunshine in Mount Maunganui on Sunday. The temperature will be in the mid-twenties with humidity around 50% from start to finish.
NZ vs PAK Pitch Report
The Bay Oval has hosted plenty of exciting T20I contests in the past and the pitch generally delivers a good surface for batting. That said, there will be turn for the spinners and the ball will deviate for the pacers as well. A par score is likely to be around 180.
Toss: To Bowl
After seeing how Pakistan were able to chase down a target of 200+ on Friday, we predict that both teams will want to chase in this game on Sunday in Mount Maunganui.
