It was a very disappointing scene for players, fans and administrators alike as the much-anticipated five-match T20I series between Namibia and Canada began with a washout in Windhoek on Tuesday.

But as with any setback, the best opportunity for all is to move onto the next opportunity and both sets of players will be hoping for a full game of cricket on Wednesday at the same venue.

Fortunately for all, although there is a hint of poor weather on the radar, the forecast is much more positive than what was predicted on Tuesday and the locals are sure that a full game will be able to take place.

That said, the conditions look likely to suit the bowlers and there is likely to be plenty of life in the wicket following the downpours on Tuesday. Therefore, it could be a tricky second T20I for the batters on both sides!

Namibia Preview

On a pitch which is likely to provide much more assistance to the bowlers than the batters, Namibia will be looking to to the likes of Bernard Scholtz, Jan Frylinck, Gerhard Erasmus and Jan Balt to do the damage to Canada’s players in this game.

Much has been written about Namibia’s struggles since the 2024 T20 World Cup and this match should provide a useful yardstick to see how they shape up against a Canada team who are on the rise. Gerhard Erasmus’ side do have the benefit of home advantage and they will be looking to use that in this match.

In a game where the bowlers are expected to be on top, we predict that Namibia’s batters will take on an aggressive approach. That will likely be embodied by keeper-batter JP Kotze and Jan Frylinck at the top of the order with Erasmus to play an anchor role if early wickets fall. The openers will be given a licence to free their arms and will target boundaries from the first ball.

Canada Preview

No team likes to see a game abandoned without a ball bowled and Canada will certainly have been disappointed to see the opening game of this series washed out after they had performed so well in the ODI fixtures earlier in the month.

Any momentum which may have been carried through from the Cricket World Cup League 2 matches may have disappeared by the time this game gets underway and there is likely to be an urgency from the tourists who will be keen to take an early lead in the series.

Even in conditions which don’t suit them, Canada have an exceptionally gifted bowling attack and judging by the overcast skies in the forecast, they could well have one of their great days in this game. We expect the whole bowling unit to be a threat but Akhil Kumar and Parveen Kumar to be the lead bowlers.

With the bat, captain Nicholas Kirton is often the most technical but there are also other attacking options in Dilpreet Bajwa at the top of the order and keeper-batter Shreyas Movva.

Weather Conditions

The weather forecast is once again not perfect for Windhoek but the chance of rain is a lot smaller than on Tuesday. Nevertheless, we are expecting overcast skies and humid conditions from start to finish.

NAM vs CAN Pitch Report

This venue is one where batting is not always the easiest and the moisture from Tuesday’s rain coupled with the conditions on Wednesday are likely to make it even more bowler friendly. It could well be that a total of 145-150 is sufficient to win a low-scoring contest.

Toss: To Bowl

With the conditions predicted to favour the bowlers, we are expecting both captains to go out for the toss with the intention of bowling first should they call correctly.
