Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) face off against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 30th match of IPL 2025 this Monday in Lucknow. LSG have punched above their weight so far with four wins and two losses, landing them in third place. CSK kicked off their campaign with a win but haven’t been able to recover after that, slumping to five straight defeats and falling to ninth place. With home support behind them and CSK struggling to find their rhythm, LSG look better placed going into this one.

Lucknow Super Giants Preview

Not many backed Lucknow Super Giants when the season began, but they’ve pulled off four wins from six and now sit third in the standings.

They’re coming off a 6-wicket win over Gujarat Titans at the Ekana, where they chased 181 with three balls to spare. What’ll encourage them most is doing it without Mitchell Marsh, who was unavailable due to personal reasons. It’s still unclear if he’ll be back for the next game.

Nicholas Pooran (61 off 34) and Aiden Markram (58 off 31) were the standouts in the last match, both playing impactful knocks to ease the chase. Pooran is now leading the IPL 2025 run chartsβ€”349 runs in six games at an average of 69.80 and a blistering strike rate of 215.43. Markram’s growing in confidence too, up to 202 runs with a strike rate of 153.03. If Marsh returns, LSG will have a stacked top order.

But the rest of the batting hasn’t quite held up. Rishabh Pant’s struggled badlyβ€”only 40 runs in five inningsβ€”and the pressure has crept into the middle order. David Miller has looked out of rhythm too, unable to find any timing.

Chennai Super Kings Preview

Things are going downhill fast for Chennai Super Kings, who just suffered their fifth loss in a rowβ€”this time a brutal 8-wicket defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders at home. It was a sorry effort from the five-time champs, putting up just 103-9 after being sent in. KKR chased it with ease in only 10.1 overs.

Regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad missing the rest of the season with injury only adds to CSK’s headaches. He was their most reliable batter, and without him, their top order looks shaky. Conway and Ravindra have to step up now, but so far, it hasn’t been convincing. Ravindra hasn’t been able to build a proper innings, and Conway’s been hot and cold.

The middle-order isn’t helping either. Rahul Tripathi and Vijay Shankar have failed to build momentum after early wickets, and haven’t been able to accelerate either.

Weather Conditions

At Ekana, batters might need to ease into their innings instead of swinging from ball one, though scoring won’t be too tough once they settle. The pitch tends to get slower and two-paced as the match goes on, which should suit the spinners in the middle overs. Fast bowlers will need to rely on variationsβ€”cutters and slower deliveriesβ€”to limit the damage.

The Lucknow heat and humidity will be a factor, but there’s no rain in the forecast to worry about.

LSG vs CSK Pitch Report

The average first innings score at Ekana Cricket Stadium tends to hover around 166. Last season, Kolkata Knight Riders’ 235 for 6 against Lucknow Super Giants was the highest team total here, a game they game by 98 runs.
