Lahore Qalandars will take on Multan Sultans at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The hosts have lost their last match on this ground. Both teams have an inconsistent batting lineup. Multan Sultans haven’t been as impressive in their other outings as in their win over LHQ in Multan.

Expect a close encounter between the two teams. Both sides have plenty of batting firepower with big-hitting players at key positions in the lineup. For Multan Sultans, Yasir Khan and Muhammad Rizwan hold the key at the top, while Sam Billings and Daryl Mitchell are crucial for Lahore Qalandars in the middle order.

Qalandars faced a top-order collapse in the last match, while Sultans failed to finish the game on a high after a good start. It is a good batting wicket, and both teams will be eager to find their batting rhythm and get back to winning ways.

Lahore Qalandars Preview

Lahore Qalandars will be out to avoid a hat-trick of losses. Though they’ve got a deep and power-packed batting order, LHQ have struggled to deliver consistently.

The middle-order delivered a hugely disappointing performance against Multan Sultans while chasing a 200+ target, and in the next game, the home team lost half of their side for 34 runs in the powerplay.

The current state of affairs at LHQ is quite grim. The last time LHQ won a match was against Karachi Kings while batting first in Karachi. Fakhar Zaman scored 76 at the top while Daryl Mitchell was out for 75 off 41 balls at number 4 to lead the team to 201 runs.

Even with Sam Billings and Sikandar Raza coming to the party in the next match, Lahore have failed to deliver a consolidated batting effort that would put up a competitive total or chase one down.

The lack of runs from Asif Ali and Abdullah Shafique in the top 3 is a huge concern for the hosts going ahead. In the bowling attack, skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi is a key wicket-taker to watch out for.

Multan Sultans Preview

Can Yasir Khan repeat his last performance against the Qalandars? He delivered a match-winning knock for the Sultans in their last encounter against LHQ.

Skipper and his opening partner, Muhammad Rizwan, was also quite impressive in that game, scoring at a strike rate of 188. Rizwan’s strike rate dropped drastically in the next outing. However, Usman Khan at number 3 has been very consistent with his scoring rate.

Khan will be a key batsman to watch out for in this match. The top 3 are quite strong and we expect them to lead Sultans with a solid start in the first half of the innings.

There is a long list of all-rounders who follow the number 3 batsman. The likes of Ashton Turner, Michael Bracewell, and Iftikhar Ahmed come in at 4, 5, and 6.

Chris Jordan replaced Turner in the last game but Bracewell was sent up to number 4. It didn’t make much of a difference. Sultans also have David Willey in the squad.

There are many bowling all-rounders in this squad, and the batting looks quite limited, and the top 3 batters have the majority of the scoring responsibility. The lack of consistency from the middle and lower middle-order batters can hold the Sultans back from scoring big in this game.

Weather Conditions

It will be a clear day in Lahore with a high of 38 degrees Celsius. There would be no clouds when the match begins and no signs of rain.

LHQ vs MS Pitch Report

It is a good batting wicket, and the average 1st innings score in the last 4 T20s is 176 runs. We reckon anything over 185 runs will be a competitive target and put the batting team in pole position on this wicket.

Toss: To Bat

Teams batting first have won 3 of the last 4 T20 matches played at this venue. Though LHQ lost their last game here while batting first, we still believe it’s a good venue to bat first and win.
