Mayank Yadav won’t take any further part in IPL: Justin Langer | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Lucknow Super Giants head coach Justin Langer confirmed on Saturday that pace sensation Mayank Yadav will miss the rest of the Indian Premier League due to a lower abdominal tear. The news of the 21-year-old Delhi man being ruled out of this IPL due to a grade 1 side strain was earlier reported on May 1, coinciding with his inclusion in the BCCI‘s pace bowling contract list.Asked about Mayank’s fitness status, Langer said, “No, we’ll be praying that he can play, hopefully, in the play-offs, but I am a realist as well. It’ll probably be difficult for him to get up for the back-end of the tournament.”Mayank, known for his thunderbolt deliveries clocking at 155 km/h, featured in four IPL matches, claiming seven wickets. However, in two of those games, he was unable to finish his allotted overs due to injury.During the first instance against Gujarat Titans, Mayank suffered a side strain after bowling just one over and had to leave the field.Following a four-week rehabilitation period, Mayank returned to play against Mumbai Indians. However, he suffered another breakdown after bowling 3.1 overs, resulting in strong criticism from Brett Lee, a former teammate of Langer.Langer informed the media that Mayank sustained a tear at the same area where he was injured earlier.“He’s (Mayank) had a scan. He’s got a small tear in a similar area to where his last one (injury) was. So, it’s very unfortunate. We saw the impact he had when he came back into the game,” the former Australia opener and head coach said.Langer said even the great Jasprit Bumrah has spoken about how fast bowlers will have to cope with injuries.“There will always be a lot of discussion about fast bowlers, and I know he spoke to [Jasprit] Bumrah after the game and he reassured him that if he’s going to be a fast bowler, a part of his journey as a young fast bowler, he’s going to get injuries.“So, in my experience, every young fast bowler, probably until they get to 25 or 26, is going to experience different injuries. It’s the most unfortunate. He’s got huge potential,” he said. While Lee had questioned LSG’s handling of Mayank’s injury, the head coach sounded different.“His rehabilitation was excellent. He went into the game [against MI], had a couple of bowls before the game.“He was completely pain free. So, it’s very sad for him and it’s disappointing for LSG as well that he might not play (the rest of the tournament).”(With PTI inputs)

Jasprit Bumrah can never be under-estimated: Aaron Finch on MI's 'one-man army'

Jasprit Bumrah can never be under-estimated: Aaron Finch on MI’s ‘one-man army’

Former Australian cricketer Aaron Finch hailed Jasprit Bumrah for his brilliant display of T20 bowling and reflected on his ‘one-man army’ efforts for MI in IPL 2024. The Mumbai franchise is having an underwhelming season as they lost their 8th match of the season on Friday. KKR ended their 12-year jinx at the Wankhede Stadium as they registered an emphatic win by 24 runs against MI. While speaking on Star Sports, Finch was questioned if Bumrah’s recent form could be a cause of worry for India in the lead up to the T20 World Cup. Finch dismissed the claims regarding Bumrah’s form and put him on the list of one of the best pacers in T20 cricket. “I am not sure if Bumrah has ever been out of form. He is someone who gets the job done wherever he plays, whether it is international cricket or franchise cricket. He is unbelievable, he is as good as anyone we have ever seen in this game. I think if you put the 2 best-ever, it would be Bumrah and Malinga, I guess, as fast bowlers in this format of the game,” Finch said. IPL 2024, MI vs KKR: Match Report | Full Scorecard Bumrah yet again shone with the ball for MI against KKR as he picked up 3 wickets and gave away just 18 runs in 3.5 overs. The speedster spearheaded MI’s bowling charge and restricted KKR to 170 runs. BUMRAH – MI’S ‘ONE MAN ARMY’ Finch felt that it was a ‘shame’ that the rest of the bowling line-up has not been able to stand together as a unit. He also said that MI’s batting unit has not been clicking, and it has been Bumrah who has been standing up in the crunch moments for the team. IPL 2024 Full Coverage | IPL 2024 Points Table and Standings | 2024 IPL Full Schedule “We can never under-estimate the impact that he can have on a team. Its just a shame that the rest of the bowling unit has not been doing right throughout and the rest of the batting has just not clicked right from the start. There is no continuity and Bumrah stood up in crunch moments for the team,” Finch added. Bumrah’s efforts with the ball were not enough as MI batters crumbled at 145 runs against KKR. The MI pacer claimed the Purple Cap as he scalped 17 wickets in 11 matches at an economy rate of 6.25. Published By: Diya Kakkar Published On: May 4, 2024

IPL 2024: Why MI's Loss Is Good News For RCBs Playoff Chances?

IPL 2024: Why MI’s Loss Is Good News For RCBs Playoff Chances?

With more than 50 games done in IPL 2024, no team has qualified for the playoffs and – no team is out of the race yet. Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) playoff chances are hanging by a thread after Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Rajasthan Royals by one run on Thursday. Furthermore, MI have continued their dismal IPL 2024 campaign after suffering a 24-run defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday at home. After their eighth loss in 11 games, the five-time champions MI are now on the brink of elimination. The Hardik Pandya-led outfit will need plenty of results to go their way to finish in the top four. Meanwhile, MI’s heartbreaking loss has brought some confidence into the RCB camp considering Mumbai can go up to a maximum of 12 points if they win their remaining three matches, which is daunting. Remaining fixtures of MI May 6: vs SRH, Wankhede Stadium May 11: vs KKR, Eden Gardens May 17: vs LSG, Wankhede Stadium Mathematically, MI are not eliminated from the competition yet and also have an outside chance of qualifying. First things first, Mumbai need to win all their remaining fixtures to stay in the hunt. RR and KKR are already placed at the top with 16 and 14 points respectively and are far from MI’s reach. Technically, MI would need RR and KKR to win all their remaining fixtures to make way for them. The winner of the SRH v LSG clash on May 8 will move to 14 points from the current 12. The winner of the SRH vs LSG game will need to win their remaining three matches and get at least 16 points. The winner of this fixture will also need to win their remaining three fixtures. Whereas, the loser of the game should also lose their next three fixtures and end their season with 12 points. Lastly, none of the teams residing outside of the top four should go past 12 points. In such a scenario, Mumbai might get tied with the other five teams at 12 points each and would need a significant NRR boost to climb up the ladder and seal the fourth spot on the standings. RCB, on the other hand, are currently reeling at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table with only three wins out of 10 games. However, they have looked in a better position than MI after winning two consecutive away games against SRH and GT. Despite early setbacks this season, RCB still have a mathematical chance to make the playoffs. Their recovery work begins at home against a struggling GT on Saturday and RCB would need to make the most out of the game. Remaining fixtures of RCB May 4: vs GT, Bengaluru May 9: vs PBKS, Dharamsala May 12: vs DC, Bengaluru May 18: vs CSK, Bengaluru Like any other side, who are placed in the bottom half of the points table, RCB also need to win their remaining four fixtures and hopefully, they will make use of the home advantage with three more fixtures to be played at Chinnaswamy. However, for RCB to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs, the simple math is to back the top three (RR, KKR, and either one of SRH/ LSG) to win as many games as possible while the next six sides above them lose just as many so that RCB can finish above them in the standings. Here are a few of the possible ways in which this can be achieved. RCB would want the winner of the SRH v LSG clash on May 8 to win all their remaining matches to cement their spot at three at least. They also want the loser of the SRH vs LSG game to lose their next three fixtures and get stuck on 12 points. MI should win no more than two out of their remaining four league games. GT and PBKS should win no more than two of their remaining four league games. CSK and DC should win no more than one of their remaining league games. RR and KKR should win at least three of their remaining four league games. To sum up, RCB must hope that all the above permutations go their way with the six teams above them suffering heavy defeats while the Royal Challengers themselves must earn handsome wins to grab the fourth spot for IPL 2024 playoffs qualification. ‘Mumbai Indians' baffling decisions gave KKR the upper hand: Shane Watson slams Hardik Pandya's captaincy

‘Mumbai Indians’ baffling decisions gave KKR the upper hand: Shane Watson slams Hardik Pandya’s captaincy

Kolkata Knight Riders beat Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium for the first time in 12 years on Friday. Despite the lopsided 9-1 head-to-head record at the venue in favour of the hosts, KKR were the firm favourites going into the encounter on current form. KKR and MI sat on opposite ends of the IPL 2024 points table before the match started and it remained the same after the match ended. But in between, there was a lot of drama. It wasn’t as it was as the 24-run victory may seem like. In fact, for the better part of the KKR innings, it seemed like MI would maintain their spotless track record by returning to winning ways against the Purple army. Kolkata Knight Riders’ players celebrate after their team’s win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match vs Mumbai Indians(AFP) KKR were 57/5 at one stage, really struggling to come to terms with the unusually slow Wankhede Pitch. That is when the KKR think tank used the Impact Player rule to the maximum effect. Manish Pandey came in place of Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who had already been dismissed. The experienced right-hander, playing in his first game of the season, stitched an all-important 83-run stand for the sixth wicket with Venkatesh Iyer to bring the KKR innings back on track. Unlock exclusive access to the latest news on India’s general elections, only on the HT App. Download Now! Download Now! Pandey was dismissed for 42 off 31 balls, but Iyer made sure KKR were poised to cross the 180-run mark quite comfortably. But they suffered another collapse when things were looking all uphill for the two-time champions. Andre Russell was run out due to a horrible mixup with Iyer and KKR folded for 169 in 19.5 overs. Iyer scored 70 off 52 balls. But the position that KKR were in, 169, was not bad by any means. In fact, it proved to be 24 runs too many for MI as the hosts were bowled out for 145 in 18.5 overs. Former Australian cricketer asserted that the Knight Riders had no right to win the match after losing the first five wickets so early in the clash against the five-time champion MI. Watson said he was baffled by some of MI’s tactics. Watson bowled over by KKR’s remarkable comeback against MI “KKR had no right to win that game tonight after the position they were in five wickets down. It just shows the fight that they have and also just some of the things that happened. Some of the decisions that were made whether that was bowling changes or batting lineup deployment, some of those decisions were very baffling just to really give KKR the upper hand in a game that was just on a knife’s edge at certain times,” Watson said on Jio Cinema. The 42-year-old further stated that this victory will give the Shreyas Iyer-led side a lot of confidence. “Look that will give KKR so much confidence to know that they don’t have to be at their very best and be in a position where the game was nearly done and they’ve got the fight and determination to find their way to actually get on the right side of the result,” the two-time IPL champion added. Mitchell Starc made a terrific comeback in the tournament returning with a figure of 4-33 in just 3.5 spells, handing KKR a 24-run victory. Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine both finished with identical figures of 2/22, including some big wickets in the first half of the chase which put KKR on top in the match. Following the win, KKR stand in second place on IPL 2024 standings with 14 points. Meanwhile, MI hold ninth place with 6 points by their name. KKR will next take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday.

“Badi Jaldi Aaya Practice Mei”: Virat Kohli-Shubman Gill’s Reunion After T20 World Cup Squad Announcement

Shubman Gill with Virat Kohli© X (Twitter) Gujarat Titans are all set to avenge their big defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru as both the teams will be facing each other again on Saturday. In their previous clash, GT posted a total of 200/3 in 20 overs, which was easily chased down by RCB in just 16 overs. Will Jacks was the real hero of that clash with his magnificent 41-ball-unbeaten century. The upcoming clash will be an important one for both the teams as these two points can play a crucial role in the qualification for the Playoffs. Ahead of the match in Bengaluru, GT skipper Shubman Gill reached the practice ground, where he met RCB star Virat Kohli and the duo gave an adorable moment to the fans. The meeting happened a couple of days after BCCI announced the T20 World CUp squas. Shubman Gill has been named in the reserves while Kohli is part of the squad. As soon as Gill met Kohli, the latter pulled his leg by saying, “Badi jaldi aaya practice mei (You came so early for practice)!”. His tally includes one century and four half-centuries. On the other hand, Gill is having a mediocre outing with the bat as he has managed to fetch 320 runs in 10 matches. His strike rate is 140.97 while his batting average is 35.56. Apart from IPL, Kohli has been named in India’s 15-member squad for T20 World Cup 2024. However, Gill has failed to earn a spot as the selectors have named skipper Rohit Sharma and young Yashasvi Jaiswal as the two openers for the marquee event. Gill has been named in the reserves, along with Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan. All-rounder Hardik Pandya returned to international cricket and will be serving as Rohit’s deputy at the World Cup. Apart from him, Chennai Super Kings batter Shivam Dube has also been named in the squad. Topics mentioned in this article

'Refusing An ICC Event Can Backfire': Ex Pakistan Star's Warning To India Amid Champions Trophy Uncertainty

‘Refusing An ICC Event Can Backfire’: Ex Pakistan Star’s Warning To India Amid Champions Trophy Uncertainty

Team India in action© BCCI Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif said India will have to provide a “logical answer” to the World governing body if they refuse to travel to Pakistan for next year’s Champions Trophy, and the decision of not participating in an ICC event can “backfire”. Sources told IANS earlier that Team India might not participate in the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. There are discussions about potentially shifting the venue for the event or considering a hybrid model, it said. It is learnt that the Pakistan Cricket Board has proposed to the International Cricket Council (ICC) that India’s qualifying round matches during the Champions Trophy next year be scheduled exclusively in one city. Reacting to this, Rashid Latif told IANS, “You can refuse the bilateral series. But it will be tough to refuse ICC events. When ICC chalk out its plan, the teams know where they have to play, like Pakistan knew that they have to go to India to play the World Cup, and contracts are signed accordingly for cricket boards.” “It seems a bit tough to refuse ICC events… In the 1996 World Cup, Australia and West Indies refused to go to Sri Lanka and the entire group changed and Sri Lanka became the champion. This was a very big mistake… If India or Pakistan has signed in, they will have to go for that event. If any circumstances occur on a government level, then you have to provide a logical answer as to why not coming. You can refuse the bilateral series citing the conditions in Pakistan are not right etc etc… In my opinion, refusing an ICC event can backfire,” the former wicketkeeper-batter added. According to information received, the PCB has, meanwhile, selected Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore as the venues for the event, with Lahore hosting the final match. Rohit Sharma’s hug to young Rinku Singh wins hearts following KKR’s victory – WATCH | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Venkatesh Iyer’s impressive half-century outshone a similar effort from Suryakumar Yadav, as Mitchell Starc’s four-wicket haul helped Kolkata Knight Riders defeat Mumbai Indians by 24 runs in a low-scoring IPL 2024 match. This victory marked KKR’s first win at the Wankhede Stadium since 2012 and their second ever at the iconic venue. In a match that was largely dictated by bowlers, Iyer saved KKR from a challenging 57/5 with his gritty 70 off 52 balls, guiding them to a modest total of 169. In response, Starc’s four-wicket burst, coupled with the two wickets each from KKR’s spin duo Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, secured a historic win for the two-time champions. Following the game, Mumbai Indians’ star batsman Rohit Sharma was seen giving a hug to KKR’s batting sensation Rinku Singh. Though Rinku did not make India’s main 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA, he has been named as a reserve player. India’s T20 World Cup journey kicks off against Ireland on June 5 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.Mumbai Indians’ social media account shared a video capturing the moment of Rohit’s embrace after the match. Despite his impressive record of 356 runs at an average of 89 and a strike rate of 176.24 in T20Is for India, Rinku’s exclusion has sparked significant debate since the Indian team’s announcement and has created a stir on social media.
