Any series between England and Australia will get the juices going of cricket fans across the globe and this series looks set to do the same even if it is played under the backdrop of mid-late September weather in the UK!

There are just over 14 months until the two teams will lock horns once more in a Men’s Ashes series and although many of the England players in this series are not under consideration for those five Tests, a strong series could well see them catapulted into having an opportunity. The same goes for Australia although they have a much more recognisable side with many players targeting the Ashes.

The T20I series between the two teams showed the attacking intent of both sides in white ball cricket and we do not expect that to change, particularly at Trent Bridge where England broke the ODI world record total in their golden era ahead of the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

England Preview

England’s rotating captaincy this summer continues into this series with Jos Buttler ruled out through injury. And after Ollie Pope took over the Test side due to Ben Stokes’ hamstring injury, with Phil Salt stepping up in place of Buttler in the recently concluded T20I games, it is the turn of Harry Brook to lead in this series.

Australia Preview

Mitchell Marsh will lead a strong Australia side in this series with perhaps only Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood unavailable from their first choice ODI side. It has been a successful tour of the UK so far for the tourists who have won four and lost just one of their six scheduled games. And with that strong foundation they have the luxury of bringing back some big guns for this series.

Weather Conditions

After a very disappointing summer for the UK, the past few days have seen temperatures above average and this is set to be the case in Nottingham on Thursday where a high of 20 degrees is expected with no chance of any accompanying rain.

ENG vs AUS Pitch Report

Trent Bridge has racked up some huge ODI scores over the years but this year has not produced quite as many runs in white ball fixtures as previously seen. That said, we still expect to see a high scoring game in Nottingham with bright sunshine forecast across the match!

Toss: To Bowl

With the last four completed ODIs in Nottingham won by the team batting first, it would be quite the surprise if either of the two captains chose to field first ahead of this opening game of the series.
